All My Children Transcript Thursday 6/24/04

David: I don't care how many DNA tests you have backed up. Get mine done! Look, just take care of me on this one, Jeff. I'll owe you one. All right, I'll sit by the fax machine until you send them through. I want those results.
Krystal's voice: Ron Fitzgerald isn't Babe's daddy. You are.
J.R.: There's no way in hell you're Babe's father. I don't care what Krystal said. There's something going on with you, and I want to know what it is.
Krystal: We got to be ready, Babe. Once David's DNA tells him that he's not your daddy, all hell is going to break loose.
Babe: But David likes you. Maybe there's a chance --
Krystal: Oh, honey, honey, he's so mad at me right now, he is spitting fire. Once he gets proof that I lied again, he's going to tell anybody who listens that I knew that Bess was Miranda. I'm not just going to have to face the music, because it's going to be the whole damn symphony conducted by the entire town.
Babe: You'll not go through this alone, Mama. We both kept this secret.
Krystal: No, listen, honey. I'm not going to let you trash your life just to protect me. That's a mother's job.
Babe: No. It goes both ways. Mothers and daughters -- we take care of each other.
Bianca: How are you, mother?
Erica: I'm all right. You look well. You look so much better than --
Bianca: Better than the last time you saw me?
Erica: May I offer you something?
Bianca: No. No, thanks.
Bianca: I'm really glad you're home.
Erica: To be honest with you, if it hadn't been for Ryan, I might never have come back to Pine Valley.
Ryan: You can hate me all you want, Kendall, but don't take it out on my wife.
Kendall: Oh, believe me, Greenlee gives as good as she gets.
Ryan: Yeah, especially when you shove her back up against the wall.
Kendall: Wait, you take her side without even asking what happened?
Greenlee: You know what? It's ok, Ryan. You know what? It's nothing --
Kendall: No, no, you know what? No, no, no, no, no, no. Ryan's right. I'm angry and I'm frustrated and I'm lashing out at Greenlee. I'm supposed to just sit back and swallow it.
Ryan: So is this how it's going to be every time you two take a meeting together?
Kendall: No. No, actually, it's not going to be like this at all, because I can't take it anymore.
Ryan: So, what are you going to do about it?
Kendall: I hate what happened between us in Vegas, and I can't begin to understand why you continue to remain faithful to this farce of a marriage.
Ryan: It's not a farce.
Kendall: All right, you know what? You can lie to Greenlee, you can even lie to me, but when you're lying in bed at night and you can't sleep and you're trying to figure out why you got suckered into a marriage without love, then you'll know what I know. Ryan, what we have and what we felt in that hotel room -- that means so much more than any of this.
Ryan: Nothing happened in that hotel room, Kendall.
Kendall: Yeah, technically, it didn't, but we wanted it to. We did and we always will. And I can't -- I'm sorry, but I can't ignore that. To work here with you side by side, day in and day out, and to watch you and look at you and want you --
Ryan: Well, if this is the way that you're going to handle it, you're right, it's not going to work.
Kendall: Well, how else am I supposed to handle this? Yes, I'm confused and I'm frustrated and I'm lashing out, but this is the most important decision of my life. You know that, Ryan.
Greenlee: Do I get a vote in the plan? You know what? My opinion probably doesn't count. I trust you to handle this, Ryan. You figure it out.
Ryan: Kendall, no matter how much you want it to, nothing is going to change anything between us.
[Elevator doors open]
George: Does that mean you and Ms. Hart will be flying off to Las Vegas on a regular basis? George Milligan, head counsel --
Ryan: I know exactly who you are. I pay your salary. What are you doing here?
George: I was actually looking for a Mrs. Lavery, but I find you here with "Ms. Woman Scorned," to quote you. Is Ms. Lavery aware of how much time you two spend together?
Ryan: Ms. Lavery is very aware, but I'll let her know you're concerned. Thank you so much.
George: Under the circumstances, with the SEC and all, spending hours locked in a Vegas hotel with your former fiancée and --
Ryan: Hey, hey, stop. Who asked you?
Kendall: Ok, you know what? Mr. Lavery and I, we were in Vegas to help my mother.
Ryan: No, no, no. No. This guy doesn't need an explanation. He works for me -- at least he used to. How long have you been spying on me?
George: There were a lot of questions about the legitimacy of your marriage.
Ryan: Well, I'd say that's grounds for dismissal.
George: I wouldn't do that if I were you.
Ryan: Great -- spying and threats. I should be able to get a restraining order and sue for harassment and violation of fiduciary duty. See? I do know lawyer talk.
George: You won't get away with this.
Ryan: Great. Sue me. Milligan is just the tip of the iceberg, Kendall. There is a lot of people who would like to see us mess up. That means 10 to 20 years behind bars for Greenlee and for me.
Kendall: Well, it was your idea to marry her.
Ryan: And that is my point. I don't want to see Greenlee take the fall for something that was all my idea.
Kendall: Ok. I get how serious all of this is, and I can't be part of it anymore.
Ryan: So what does that mean? You going to turn us in after all?
Bianca: So you're saying that your family, your friends, your whole life here meant so little to you that you could walk away with it without ever looking back?
Erica: Let's not get dramatic. The point is that I'm here.
Bianca: But you think it was a mistake.
Erica: No one forced me to come back. Ryan doesn't have that kind of power over me.
Bianca: This isn't easy, for either of us.
Erica: You're free to say whatever you need to say, Bianca.
Bianca: Do you really think that it didn't make a difference to us whether you were here or not?
Erica: It didn't matter whether I was here or on the other side of the world. You all did just fine.
Bianca: No, that's not true. We were all worried sick about you, all of us. Didn't you hear the messages we left?
Erica: I heard everything you said to me, Bianca.
Bianca: At the hospital before you left? Ok. Let's talk about it.
Erica: No. No, let's not. I don't want to revisit --
Bianca: If we don't, it's just going to get bigger and uglier.
Bianca: Yes, I did push you away. But I still needed you. When you left, I was already a mess, but then it went from bad to worse. And then you know what I did? I stole a baby. And when my mind was breaking into little pieces, it still brought me to where I would be safe. I came looking for you.
Erica: You don't have to tell me this.
Bianca: No, Mom, how else will you understand? I can't explain what made me take Bess from that nursery. But the only thing about it that makes any sense at all is that I brought her here, to your home, because I wanted her to know you and to know how safe I felt with you, except you were nowhere to be found.
Erica: Bianca, I couldn't have known. I'm so sorry. I am so sorry that you were in so much pain. And I am so sorry that I wasn't here for you. If I could have one wish, it would --
Bianca: No, don't say it. Don't say that you would bring Miranda back. It's so easy to say, and it's so impossible to do.
Krystal: Honey, I want you to listen to me, because it's going to get ugly. But this is my fire, and I'm going to take the heat.
Babe: No, there are plenty of matches to go around.
Krystal: I am not going to let you pay for what I did. I fixed that test, and I tried to cover it up. Now, there are a lot of things that might be forgivable, but not that.
Babe: No, you were doing what you did because you were trying to protect me.
Krystal: I know, I know, and look what a bang-up job I did -- you ended up getting your heart broken anyway. In fact, nobody gets out of this without getting hurt.
Babe: That's why we just have to stand together.
Krystal: You got your husband for that, ok? He's going to help you deal with the loss of your little boy -- and now Bess. I'm just so sorry. Baby, I am so sorry. I tried. I tried so hard. I just messed everything up.
Babe: Oh, my God, Mommy. Don't cry.
Krystal: You listen to me, ok, and you listen hard. When David blows the whistle on this, I am going to swear on a stack of Bibles that you had nothing to do with this.
Babe: No, that is not fair. I am just as guilty in this.
Krystal: You have to be just as shocked and just as angry as everybody else, especially J.R., if you give a lick about your marriage.
Babe: I'm not going to sit there and watch them just haul you off to jail for trying to protect me.
Krystal: You're right. You're right, I can't expect you to do that. That's what makes my decision a little bit easier.
Babe: Good. We'll stick together just like we always have.
Krystal: Honey, they can't hurt me if they can't find me. I'm going to leave town before David tells everybody the truth.
David: Just go home. Take care of that baby.
J.R.: Why? What do you know?
David: Nothing -- yet.
J.R.: Well, it's obvious you didn't believe Krystal, either, so you're not protecting Bess because she's your flesh and blood.
David: Who says you're not smart?
J.R.: I want to know what's going on. What's the deal? Is it even possible that you and Krystal did the deed?
Ron's voice: Hayward, you came stag, right? Do me a favor -- take care of my date.
J.R.: I'm waiting, Doc. What's in it for Krystal if you're Babe's long-lost daddy?
David: She's got her reasons.
J.R.: Then spill it.
Babe: But I'm going to need you so badly now. And how am I going to find the strength to make it through this alone?
Krystal: You and J.R. just will have to do what you have to do. But you have to stick to our story, honey. If anybody finds out that you knew the truth about that baby, you're not going to have a friend left in Pine Valley, and they are going to cut you out of that -- Mirandas life for good.
Babe: God. This is going to kill J.R. -- the way he feels about Bess.
Krystal: Even more reason to claim that you're innocent, honey. Now, you tell me what he'll do if he knows that you're in on that secret.
Babe: Probably used up all his forgiveness with the annulment.
Krystal: Honey, it's bad enough that you both have to lose Bess. Don't lose each other, too. He's going to need you.
Babe: What about you, Mama?
Krystal: Oh, honey, you just focus on J.R. Love is a beautiful thing. If you're blessed with it, you have to do everything you can to protect it.
Babe: If that's true, Mama, how can you just leave Tad behind?
David: You know Krystal -- she's probably trying to squeeze Tad for something, make him jealous.
J.R.: That's a stretch.
David: Why? Look at him. Your father's got women stacked up deeper than planes at OHare. Krystal has to do something to stand out from the crowd, right?
J.R.: You know, it's funny you mention Tad as a player when you're the one that destroyed his marriage to my mother -- and who knows how many others?
David: Too numerous to mention. By the way, you can leave anytime.
J.R.: You know, now that I think about it, it really wouldn't be a huge shock to find out that you're Babe's father. What was it again? Krystal hooked up with some dude that you knew, and then you slept with her? Yeah. Nice, man. Typical.
Krystal's voice: Ron, you said you loved me. What the heck is going on?
Ron's voice: My fiancée showed up. If she catches us -- just get out of here.
Krystal's voice: Your fiancée? You rotten, selfish creep.
Krystal's voice: I hate you.
J.R.: I bet you're a real dirtbag. How many other kids you have from nights that you don't remember? Hey -- what's going on with you, Hayward? You're holding out on me.
Kendall: I made a promise that I would keep your secret no matter how ridiculous it is.
Ryan: So what are you threatening?
Kendall: This is not a threat, Ryan. This is real. I quit.
Ryan: Yeah, right.
Kendall: No, I'll give you my letter of resignation right now. You can sign over my shares of Fusion. Hell, give them to Greenlee. She has everything else. She may as well get Fusion, too.
Ryan: You'd walk away from your own company?
Kendall: You don't understand, Ryan. I don't give a damn about Fusion anymore.
Ryan: Kendall, running away from your company isn't going to make life any easier.
Kendall: You're right. It's not enough. I have to leave Pine Valley.
Ryan: Oh, come on, Kendall.
Kendall: No, Ryan, I can't sit here and watch you and Greenlee play house every day. It's disgusting. It makes me physically ill to watch the two of you.
Ryan: Well, this is -- this isn't the answer.
Kendall: You had to get rid of the chaos out of your life, and now I have to do the same thing. I have to do the same thing. Get a lawyer in here. Get what's-his-name back in there. I'll sign everything over to you right now.
Ryan: Kendall, this is something you should think about. At least sleep on this.
Kendall: Oh -- well, I haven't slept in weeks. Sleep -- I don't know what you're talking about. I finally get the picture. This is it. It's time to let go. Message received. I'm done with this. I'm out of here.
Ryan: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Kendall, stop. Think about what you're saying here. Think about what you're giving up.
Kendall: Ryan, it's gone already. You gave it to Greenlee. You gave her everything, which means that she wins and I lose. There's no happy ground here. There can't be.
Ryan: Kendall, those are your rules. You realize you can change them if you want to.
Kendall: No. No, it hurts too much.
Ryan: You're hurting yourself.
Kendall: All right, well, then do you have another plan for me? Do you have a better idea, Ryan? Please, if you do, then please tell me, please let me know. How do I get rid of this pain? Give me a good reason to stay here. I'm waiting.
Ryan: I can't. I don't want to hurt you anymore.
Kendall: Then there's no other way out. Congratulations, Greenlee. You win.
Greenlee: I win what?
Kendall: Fusion, Ryan, everything. I'm leaving Pine Valley.
Greenlee: I don't believe you.
Ryan: It's Erica.
Kendall: What, she's calling you?
Ryan: No, it's the guys that I have tailing her. Hey, hold on one second. Stay here. We're not finished yet.
Greenlee: If you're scamming, this could be the one that finally does you in.
Bianca: I can't explain what happened. When they told me that Miranda died, it was like this -- this disconnect. My shrink says that I was so overwhelmed by grief that I lost reality. I've been in therapy ever since.
Erica: Oh. I hope it helps.
Bianca: It does. When I picked up Bess in the nursery, she stopped crying, like she knew that I was her mother and that everything was going to be ok -- at least that's what I told myself. I know it must sound crazy now.
Erica: No. No, not at all, no. I think when we have those extremely dark moments, we tell ourselves whatever we need to survive.
Bianca: Is that what happened to you, Mother? When you were in Las Vegas, were you so overwhelmed by your father's death and that's why you couldn't come home to us?
Erica: No. No, no, no, no, no. No. No, you -- you don't understand.
Bianca: I'm trying.
Erica: I stayed in Vegas because no one wanted me here. And don't get all sensitive about this. I was the one who was shut out.
Bianca: You shut yourself out.
Erica: What happened in Las Vegas had nothing to do with my father. That's all I'm going to say about that.
Bianca: You know, I thought we were finding some common ground here. I guess I should have known better.
Erica: You never understood me.
Bianca: I understand enough. Except for the fact that you're not drunk at the moment, nothing has changed since the last time we spoke.
Krystal: I might as well kiss Tad goodbye. Once he finds out the truth, he's going to hate me just as much as anybody.
Babe: Isn't there any way we can stop this?
Krystal: I think that train's left the station. Only thing for me to do now is just ride it on out of town. Besides, I don't want to see the look on Tad's face when he realizes what a selfish liar I am. You know what? I think if I leave town, it'll be better for everybody.
Babe: Tad cares about you. I know that he does.
Krystal: He'll get over it.
Babe: You're the bravest person I've ever seen. Just sacrificing all this just for me.
Krystal: I don't know how brave it is heading for the hills. But I do know that I would walk through fire to make sure that you get the life that you deserve.
Babe: You are not allowed to worry about me anymore, ok? As long as I have J.R., I can make it through anything.
J.R.: Something's going on with you, Hayward. I'm just trying to figure it out, that's all.
David: Why don't you just spit it out, Junior? What are you accusing me of?
J.R.: Maybe you're in on this with Krystal.
David: Yeah, that's rational.
J.R.: I wouldn't put it past you. Maybe you're after revenge. Maybe you're trying to pass yourself off as part of my family.
David: Revenge for what?
J.R.: I don't know. I don't know how your mind works. Maybe because my baby lived and yours didn't?
David: If I wanted to hurt you, I have something much bigger and better than passing myself off as Babe's father. I could show you real pain, you punk. So what are you saying? Do you want to know what real revenge feels like?
J.R.: Say what you got to say, Hayward.
David: You think you're ready to hear what's going on with me and Krystal?
J.R.: I'm not scared.
Ron's voice: Forget it, Krystal! We're over!
J.R.: I'm waiting. What's going on with you and Krystal? I want the truth.
David: The truth is you're a pain in my ass. Just get the hell out of my house.
J.R.: Come on, Hayward, what's the secret? Tell me. Blow me out of the water.
David: Nothing. I had you going there, didn't I?
J.R.: Yeah. Here's a news flash -- if it turns out you are Babe's father, that's between you and her. I want you to stay away from me, my home, and my baby.
David: Your baby?
J.R.: Yeah, you heard me! Stay away from Bess.
Krystal: Honey, this is going to be the biggest challenge of your marriage. But there is a silver lining, believe it or not. You and J.R. can bond. You're going to be there for him, you're going to help him through this, and he's going to help you grieve your own loss.
Babe: Can I tell you something, Mama?
Krystal: Of course you can.
Babe: I don't know how long I could have lived with the lie. It just can't be healthy keeping something so huge between me and my husband and my best friend.
Krystal: I know you had nightmares.
Babe: That should tell us a lot. Everything about this has been bad. And no matter how much I love Bess, how can I even call myself Bianca's friend? I really need to work on being a better friend to her.
Krystal: Oh, honey, honey, you tried, you did what you thought was best for Bess and for your husband.
Babe: You know, maybe it's God's way of saying it's time for Bianca to have her little girl back.
Erica: No need to get nasty. I don't know what you expect from me.
Bianca: Well, I was hoping that you would hear what I have to say.
Erica: I heard you.
Bianca: No, you didn't. I just told you that at the worst moment of my life it was you that I needed, it was you that I came looking for, and you still insist that you weren't wanted.
Erica: And I said to you how sorry I am that I wasn't here for you.
Bianca: You know, I wasn't the only one who needed you. Uncle Jack -- God help him -- still hasn't given up on you.
Erica: Jack has his own issues.
Bianca: Well, he called you every single day that you were gone, and you didn't even have the decency to return one of his messages.
Erica: I called him a few days ago.
Bianca: And I'm sure just like now you didn't hear a word he said.
Erica: You are so wrong, Bianca. I hear you both loud and clear. And what I hear from both of you the loudest is how disappointed you are in me. You're right. Nothing has changed, except that now I am even a bigger disappointment to you both. I guess that's how it's going to stay.
Kendall: I'm dead serious about this, Greenlee. The only way for me to live with this is to leave. I'm so sick and tired of games.
Greenlee: You never run out of steam. What's really going on?
Kendall: What, do you think I'm joking about this? Why would I joke about this? Leaving my life and my job and my home? Look at you, all shocked that I'm being sincere. You know, sincerity is a foreign concept to you. All you understand is lying and manipulation.
Greenlee: You're amazing. You can't wait for Ryan to leave the room so you can attack me. I wish that he could see you for your true colors.
Kendall: I have nothing to hide from Ryan.
Greenlee: Neither do I. We're completely honest with each other.
Kendall: Oh, really? About your marriage of convenience?
Greenlee: Call it whatever you want. We still care about each other. We're best friends. We treat each other with respect, and we protect each other.
Kendall: What else, Greenlee?
Greenlee: What else is there?
Kendall: Uh -- the real truth, which you're keeping from your best friend.
Greenlee: There's nothing that I'm keeping from him.
Kendall: No, you're lying. You're lying. You let Ryan believe that this marriage is all about business, but we both know better, don't we? I know that you're hoping by Christmastime your life will just fall into place and Ryan will fall into your bed. Don't even deny it.
Greenlee: I won't deny it. Ryan already loves me. If he falls in love with me during our marriage, like, really falls in love with me, I will send Santa a personal thank-you.
Kendall: I knew it. I knew that this is what you had planned all along. Is everything ok with Erica?
Ryan: She went out for a little bit, but she's back. Now she's fine.
Kendall: I guess that's a relief.
Ryan: Are you going to go see her?
Kendall: No. I have packing to do.
Ryan: You're still serious about leaving?
Kendall: There's no reason to stay. I'll try to get you my shares, but if I can't get this settled today, then I'm gone.
Ryan: Well, that's your call.
Kendall: You're right, it is, and I don't have to think about this anymore. I won't turn you in, but I can't stay here and support this bogus marriage. I can't be in on this joke anymore. Unless you can give me a good reason to stick around where I don't have my heart ripped out and stomped on the floor? See? No other way out. So, I better find myself a decent lawyer and get those papers drawn up. Goodbye.
Kendall: I hope you'll understand why I don't wish you a happy life together.
Greenlee: Oh, God. You don't want her to go.
Bianca: Well, I guess we're both dealing with our own disappointments -- in ourselves and in each other.
Erica: We're going to have to learn to live with that, I -- I guess.
Bianca: Well, I've been lucky. I found a lot of help in therapy. And I've learned that sometimes our own expectations are too much to put on other people. And I'm learning to accept myself and my family, flaws and all.
Erica: What a relief that must be.
Bianca: It is. Therapy can be a great place to find help. No one judges you there. I think if you would try it --
Erica: Oh, no. No, no, no. No, thank you. No, I don't need to pay someone to tell me what I'm feeling. I know how I feel.
David: Hey. Come on. It's a party. Whoo-hoo. There's no crying allowed.
Singer: Welcome to the place inside my head
David: Come on. Forget that jerk. I mean it.
David: Shh. It's going to be ok. Everything is going to be all right.
Singer: I live alone I'm the only one home
David: My God, it's true. Babe could be my daughter.
Krystal: You trust me this one last time, because I'm dead right on this. You play innocent and everything's going to be just fine. Bianca is going to treat you just as well as you treated her. I know her, honey. She is not going to cut you out of that little girl's life.
Babe: Oh. I couldn't bear it if Bess was out of our lives forever.
Krystal: No, she won't be. And don't forget that chapel in the woods you told me about. Once enough time has passed, you take J.R. there, and the two of you can work on restoring it, and you can build a memorial for your beautiful little boy.
Krystal: Then you know what to do.
Babe: Ok. I'll do it. I'll just close my eyes. I'll pretend that I'm as horrified as everyone else when the truth comes out. I'm going to hate myself for it. But I'll do it.
Krystal: Honey, don't even think that way, all right? This is the way it has to be. You're not betraying me. I wouldn't have it any other way. I got to get you home, ok? I got to pack, and I got to get out of town.
[David's fax machine rings and a piece of paper comes out]
Krystal: Ok, look, I'm just going to pack what I need, and then just get rid of the rest when I'm gone, ok?
Babe: Wait, Mama, I want to help. Come here.
Krystal: What? Oh, honey, no. Don't -- don't risk it, honey. I'll be fine.
Babe: No, Mama. You are giving up everything for me. Just let me do this one thing for you.
[Babe goes to the Chandler safe and gives her mother a large wad of cash]
J.R.: I'm going to need some ID for a withdrawal like that.
Greenlee: Is Kendall right? The only way out of this is broken hearts all around?
Ryan: Kendall's spoiled. She just wants things her way.
Greenlee: That's not an answer.
Ryan: Well, what do you want from me?
Greenlee: The truth. I mean, God, we've been straight with each other up to this point. We promised that we'd be honest throughout this whole thing.
Ryan: Why not just drop this?
Greenlee: I can take it. It's better than knowing that you're holding back. You can't bear the thought of losing Kendall, can you? You don't want her to go.
Kendall: Would you watch it!
Man: Sorry. You didn't exactly look where you were going. Maybe you can help me. I'm looking for someone. His name is --
Kendall: Ryan Lavery.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Babe: You know that I would never go near the safe unless it was important.
David: Things aren't going so well at Wildwind.
Maria: Does that warm your little icy, black heart?
Bianca: You're acting really weirdly calm. Tell me what's really going on.
Ryan: I can't let Kendall go.
