All My Children Transcript Monday 6/21/04

Ryan: We're celebrating.
Erica: We are? What are we celebrating?
Ryan: First day of your new life.
Erica: Well, then bring on the mimosas.
Ryan: Would you settle for orange juice, freshly squeezed, no pulp?
Erica: Ryan, I don't plan to "settle" on anything ever again.
Ryan: And you don't have to. We will do whatever you want, and we will go anywhere that you want because I promised, remember?
Erica: I remember. Anywhere but Pine Valley. Anywhere.
Ryan: Not even on the map until you're ready.
Erica: Well, Ryan, that just might be never.
Greenlee: You're pretty speedy for a desk jockey old enough to be my father.
Jack: Thanks -- I think.
Greenlee: I saw you leave our building. I tried to catch up. You do this every morning?
Jack: Yeah, when I can. I find it takes the edge off. You should try it sometime.
Greenlee: Oh, I've done it -- way too much work. I'd rather blow up and take out the people I love most.
Maggie: I think, I'm pretty sure, I -- I love you.
Maggie: You know, I've been holding on to this for a long time now, and -- and now it's out. And I thought I would know how to deal with it. I don't. That's why I need you. I need you to help me understand this.
J.R.: You know, I sailed the world to try to change my life.
J.R.: Yeah. But it turns out, all I ever needed was you. Every time you look at me, you put your fingers around mine, you blow those little bubbles, I just -- I just fall all over again.
Babe: I know I did the right thing.
Krystal: You think I stole a baby?
David: I know it.
Krystal: Are you swilling one of your famous drugs, doc? Because you -- you are hallucinating.
David: Go ahead, play innocent. Deny it all you want. It's not going to save you. You're a cold, heartless snake who stole a young mother's baby.
Krystal: I would never hurt Bianca.
David: You might as well ripped it right out of her arms.
Krystal: I didn't!
David: All this time, the truth was right here in this very house, up there in Babe's arms. Well, your charade is over.
J.R.: What "right thing"?
Babe: Marrying you and having a baby. Every time I see you and Bess together, I just know that it was meant to be -- despite everything. I mean, it wasn't exactly easy getting here.
J.R.: There's no place I'd rather be.
Babe: Then what do you say we practice making another peanut?
J.R.: See, that's just it -- you're bursting with energy, and I'm chained to my work. I wish I could give you all the attention that you deserve, but it's not fair to you. You don't need to be cooped up on diaper duty for 24/7.
Babe: But I love diaper duty. Don't I? But there is something that I'd like to do.
J.R.: Name it. Anything.
Babe: I want to learn how to bake.
J.R.: Why? Lucretia can make anything for you.
Babe: I know, but it's not the same. Is it, pretty? I just want Bess and I to make cookies together. And we'll make cupcakes with gobs of pink frosting. And then when she's old enough, I can teach her. And then when she's all grown up, she'll have all those happy memories.
J.R.: That's great, Babe. But you need to do something for yourself.
Babe: You're so sweet. You're so good to me. But I already have everything that I've ever wanted. You know that, don't you? And now, I'm going to be the best mom and the best wife that I can possibly be.
David: I have definitive proof that that baby is Miranda Montgomery. I took my own samples to a reputable lab -- one that you had no access to. 0% margin for error.
Krystal: Take your bogus test results and get out of here.
David: You know damn well they're genuine. And it scares the hell out of you. All those palpitations, anxiety attacks -- that's your conscience biting.
Krystal: What do I have to be afraid of? Dr. Joe's DNA test proved that Bess belongs to Babe, so if it's good enough for him, then it's good enough for me and the whole rest of the world.
David: Yeah, the only thing wrong with Dr. Joe's test is that you got there before anybody else.
Krystal: What could I do? What do I know about DNA?
David: Oh, please, I already told you -- it doesn't take a med school degree to switch a few labels around.
Krystal: Bess belongs to Babe and J.R., so you just accept that and go home!
David: Look at you. Oh, man. Are you not hearing me? I have 100% proof and you're going to stick to your pathetic story?
Krystal: You love Bianca and you couldn't save her baby -- nobody could -- so you want to steal a baby. You want to take one for Babe. You want to put that baby in Bianca's arms and make her all right again. Well, I hurt for Bianca, too, but I will not let you do that.
David: All right. A compromise, then -- we'll do another test, right out there in the open for everybody to see. What do you think it's going to tell us? Come on. Let's do it. You took Bianca's baby from her all this time. What do you think is going to happen when the truth finally comes out? Do you have any idea how much Bianca's friends and family love her? Do you have any idea the lengths that they would go to to protect her, to see justice done? I'm giving you a fair warning, Krystal -- start running now because when this town finds out what you did to Bianca, they're going to unleash the hounds of hell after you and they're not going to stop until you and your daughter pay for what you did to Bianca.
Maggie: I'm so sorry. I never meant to spring the L word on you like that.
Bianca: No, I -- I'm glad you said it.
Bianca: Of course. But you know that I still love Lena, don't you?
Maggie: Yeah, I know that. I -- I wasn't asking you, you know, anything. I -- I just told you because I'm -- I'm just very --
Bianca: Confused. And -- you hope that I have answers.
Maggie: Yes. No, no. I -- it just came out. Did I just come out? You see, I -- I don't know. Can you help me make sense of this, because I don't understand why I'm feeling this. Maybe I just shouldn't have said anything.
Bianca: Oh, no, don't -- don't say that. Haven't we always told each other everything?
Maggie: Then please tell me why -- what the hell's happening?
Greenlee: I'm sorry about last night -- you going through hell, and I made it worse.
Jack: No, you just spoke your mind.
Greenlee: Well, it's not like I'm in a great place, you know? I hate the not knowing. You haven't heard from Erica, I haven't heard from Ryan, God knows what is going on, and all I can do is take shots at someone who doesn't deserve it.
Jack: A lot of what you said last night, Greenlee --
Greenlee: Was wrong and I should've --
Jack: Would you just stop and let me finish?
Greenlee: Well --
Jack: Stop -- shush. A lot of what you said last night happens to be true. Erica does, as you say, infuriate the hell out of me. And I can't help her the way I want to, I can't love her the way I want to. I reach out to her, she runs away. I pull back, she runs even farther.
Greenlee: She knows you love her.
Jack: Yeah, well, obviously, that's not enough. And it's just killing me.
Ryan: I'm here to help. Remember? You don't want to go home to Pine Valley, then I'm not going to make you. In fact, I won't make you do anything you don't want to do -- except eat.
Erica: Thank you. Thank you, Ryan, for treating me like a normal person and not like I'm on the lam or hiding out or losing my mind.
Ryan: Well, I've been there, remember? I packed it in and hit the road for almost a year trying to outbike my life, but motorcycles don't go that fast. Nothing does.
Erica: You really couldn't forget Kendall.
Ryan: You can still be haunted even if the person isn't dead. And ghosts don't give up that easy. I mean, every bad mile of road, Kendall would be whispering into my ear and popping up into my dreams. It was like -- well, I thought that taking off was the only way of taking my life back, but, really, I had no life. I mean, I was on the run from something that I couldn't escape until I came home and I faced it.
Erica: We're still talking about you and Kendall, right?
Ryan: Absolutely. But I figured it out -- the worst thing you can do is run.
Erica: But isn't that exactly what you did when you married Greenlee?
Ryan: I married Greenlee for a lot of reasons. Making my life a Kendall-free zone was just one of them.
Erica: You can spin this any way you like. But I came to Vegas and you went to Greenlee. What's the difference?
Ryan: I faced Kendall. I looked her in the eye and I told her it was over and I told her why. I called her on her games and her lies and I told her to deal with her issues and to leave me out of her dramas and her life.
Erica: Well, believe me, I tried to tell them, too. But they -- they wouldn't listen. They -- they don't hear me.
Ryan: But you -- you pulled a disappearing act, Erica. I mean, you've left everybody that you love in limbo.
Erica: Ryan, I told you that I called Jackson and he hung up on me. And anyway, I don't owe them anything. I mean, they've done nothing but lie to me. They wanted me out of their lives even before I left Pine Valley, and now all I ask is that they leave me alone and they can't even do that. They leave me dozens of messages, they have sent spies after me. They even sicced Aidan Devane on me.
Ryan: Because they're worried!
Erica: They're not worried -- they're guilty. They feel guilty because everything they've ever said to me or done just makes it clear that they -- they just don't want to be with me.
Ryan: Well, if that's how you're connecting the dots, then you don't want me in your life, either.
Greenlee: Erica's got you on the mat and what do I do? I kick you when you're down. What the hell was I thinking?
Jack: Well, I'm hoping you were just concerned.
Greenlee: No, I was an idiot. I went off on you because you're standing by the woman you love until she wises up, and I'm doing the exact same thing with Ryan.
Jack: I think maybe you cranked it up a notch. I mean, you married the guy knowing he doesn't love you.
Greenlee: You don't know the half of it.
Bianca: You want to know are you gay? Are you straight? Bored, having a bisexual moment? I've been there. I asked a lot of questions and it took me a really long time before I figured out the answers.
Maggie: But I thought that I did know the answer. We've been here before, remember?
Bianca: It's kind of hard to forget.
Maggie: I mean, I -- I swore to you that I wasn't gay. I told you that I loved you, but not like that. And now, here I am telling you that I do love you like that -- I think. I don't know. Can you please tell me again how -- how did you know that you were gay?
Bianca: Well, it wasn't like somebody flipped a switch. I think I always knew somewhere deep inside. I just didn't want to admit it and deal with it. I mean, come on -- how could Erica Kanes daughter be a lesbian, right? But then, finally I -- I did admit it to myself, who I was, and I accepted it.
Maggie: I just -- I wish I knew what that meant. Accepting what? Admitting what? Am I gay or is it just you? Am I a straight girl who has a crush on a gay friend or am I gay and sleeping with guys to prove that I'm not? I have to know, Bianca.
Bianca: Maggie, it's -- it's not a timed event. There's no rush to figure it out.
Maggie: Well, I'm going to combust if I don't. I am attracted to guys, I am, but -- but I'm also very attracted to you. I know that I love you. It feels really good to say that.
Bianca: Well, good. Keep saying it because I love you, too.
Erica: Of course I want you in my life, Ryan. I called you, didn't I?
Ryan: Yes, but after how many weeks of hiding out?
Erica: I wasn't ready.
Ryan: Erica, why do you always have to do things the hard way? I mean, you spent all this time running away from your father's ghost.
Erica: And starring in a hit show.
Ryan: As soon as you heard that your father was dying, all you had to do was call me, and I would've been right there by your side in a second.
Erica: Ryan, you had already so much going on in your life.
Ryan: And I would've dropped it all to fly you to Las Vegas and stand next to you over that bastard's grave. I would've cursed him right along with you, and I would've mourned everything that he stole from you, and I am not the only one. Jackson and Bianca and Kendall -- they would've been right there, shoulder to shoulder.
Erica: I'm tired. I'm really tired, Ryan. I just -- I've fought enough battles, and I just don't want to take on another one.
Ryan: Is it really another battle, Erica, or is it the same one that you've been fighting your whole life? Your father, his rejection, the abandonment, the rape. I mean, no wonder you're tired, Erica. You -- you can run as fast or as far as you can and he's still there dogging you every step of the way until you can't take another step, and what happens then? Erica? Until you stop and face him down, he will always be there. But you don't have to face him alone.
Greenlee: Ryan and I are a merger made in heaven till a corporate fraud trial do us part.
Jack: Do you really have a six-month renewal option?
Greenlee: I know it sounds crazy --
Jack: It is crazy.
Greenlee: But I love him, and I really think that he's starting to feel it back. At least he was until Kendall glommed on to him in Vegas.
Jack: Greenlee, I don't want to see you get hurt.
Greenlee: Well, right back at you. But what are we going to do?
Jack: We're a hell of a pair, aren't we?
Jack: Yeah. Well, maybe I should just admit it -- just admit I'm addicted to Erica, the way she's got it for booze, the way Ryan's hooked on Kendall.
Greenlee: There's no 12-step program for love.
Greenlee: Is there? So I guess we just hold on to our hearts and pray that Erica and Ryan beat their addictions before their addictions beat us. Sucks to be us right now, doesn't it?
Babe: I just want Bess to have the best life. I never want her to know what it feels like to wake up in the middle of the night and be scared and nobody's there for you. So if she ever has a bad dream, I'm going to be right there to chase it away.
J.R.: Listen, I know you want what's best for Bess. But that doesn't mean you can't have a life.
Babe: She is my life and so are you. I want to wake her up with kisses every morning -- hmm -- and tuck her in bed in a house that smells like cookies. And from now on, I am going to stick as tight as a tick to you and our baby.
J.R.: That's great, Babe. That's just great.
Krystal: Don't you dare blame Babe.
David: Are you kidding me? She's up there right now playing mama to her best friend's baby!
Krystal: She doesn't know the truth.
David: Well, it's nice to hear you finally admit it. A case of too little, too late.
Krystal: Babe is innocent. I'm not.
David: Yeah, of course she is. And you came up with this brainstorm to steal Bianca's baby all by yourself, right?
Krystal: I didn't steal any baby. Paul Cramer did! He's the one who lied. He told us that Miranda died and that Bess survived. I don't know why he did it, but we believed it for so long that when I finally found out the truth, I --
David: You buried it. You buried it, which is just as bad.
Krystal: According to you. But I bet you Erica Kane would disagree.
David: Erica's issues have nothing to do with this! You let a young mother believe that her baby was dead! You watched her grieve, you saw her tears! And all along, you knew that her baby is alive.
Krystal: I hate what I did, David. And I know I am probably on a fast track to hell, but maybe, just maybe, that baby has a better life because of it.
David: Don't -- don't -- don't you dare try to rationalize what you've done.
Krystal: That baby -- that baby has a name she can be proud of. She is a Chandler, not a Cambias. She has a father who adores her, and he loves her mama. She's not the baby of some rapist monster who you even wanted to see dead because he's so damn evil!
David: And what about Bianca, huh? She loved that baby. She loved Miranda before she even felt her first kick. All her world was wrapped around that child and the plans she had for that baby, and you shattered that! I mean, who the hell made you God to decide who gets that baby?
Krystal: I know, I know Bianca loved Miranda, but think about the kind of life that baby would lead. I mean, this town can't even bring itself to accept me and Babe. What is it going to do? How's it going to treat that baby once the truth comes out? I have reasons for doing what I did. I know I may have been wrong, but my reasons were not all selfish. I'm begging you, please, please just think about those lives, think about the lives you're going to affect in there.
David: Nice try, Krystal. There's nothing left to think about.
Krystal: David, David, don't! You can't do this!
Erica: I'm not giving up. I'm not backing down. I'm just making different choices.
Ryan: You're running for your life, Erica, you are, and it's only going to cause you grief. Please, come home with me.
Erica: No. No, Ryan.
Ryan: Just -- just give it a shot, and if it's a bust, I will put you on my jet and you can fly to whatever new life that you want to, but at least -- at least just make the effort. Give them another chance. They're like held hostage without you. They're desperate to make things work with you, at least try to.
Erica: Oh, Ryan, I think you're wrong.
Ryan: No, I'm not wrong, Erica. I mean, maybe you can live like this, zapping the past into oblivion and, like, full speed ahead, but they can't, so if you're not going to do it for yourself, then do it for them.
Erica: I can't, Ryan. I can't face them. I mean, the look in their eyes, the hurt, the accusations, the questions. I mean, how could I ever possibly explain?
Ryan: You don't have to do a song and dance, Erica. Just -- just be there for them.
Erica: Don't you understand? Bianca's been to hell, and I wasn't there for her. How can I ever face her again?
Bianca: I'll always love you, Maggie. But I -- I'm committed to Lena. I'm in love with her no matter how far away she is.
Maggie: I know. I understand. I -- I just had to get it out.
Bianca: I'm glad you did.
Maggie: So am I. I think. Well, at least you're still here. I mean, you're not running away or anything.
Bianca: You've put me back together more times than I can count. You're the reason that I'm still here. We mourned Frankie together. When I was raped, you were the only person that I could tell in the whole world. When I found out I was pregnant, you were with me through the whole thing. And you have been by my side from the day I lost Miranda.
Maggie: Yeah. You're not alone. We all love you so much. We would do anything for you.
Bianca: A lot of people care. But you saved my life.
David: Back off, Krystal.
Krystal: No, David. No, no.
David: It has to be done.
Krystal: Does it? Does it? Please wait.
David: Putting it off isn't going to make it any easier.
Krystal: David -- David, you know what it's like to be told that your baby is dead.
David: Yeah, I do. I live with it every single day. So does Bianca, and that's going to end right now.
Krystal: No, what if -- what if your baby didn't die, and you'd watch her grow up from Daddy's little princess into a beautiful young woman? And the day comes when she's expecting a baby of her own and you're watching her count down the days until that child is born. You see her as that baby becomes the center of her universe. Could you do it? Could you take her by the hand and tell her that her baby is dead?
J.R.: I need to take this to the next level.
Adam: What's happened? Don't tell me that dimwit is onto us.
J.R.: No, no, nothing like that. It's just all the sudden she's all -- she's all about being a mom and the apple pie thing.
Adam: Oh, go on. It's a phase. Tomorrow she'll want a new hairdo and a belly ring.
J.R.: Hmm, I don't think so. I was so sure one night out with her buddies -- and she dropped Bess off with the nanny and she'd be back on the party circuit, but right now she's crusading to be mother of the year.
Adam: We may have a problem.
J.R.: Yeah, and I want it to disappear as quickly as possible.
Adam: How far are you willing to go?
J.R.: What do you mean?
Adam: Well, I mean, there are ways to handle the situation, but the question is, do you have the stomach to do what has to be done?
J.R.: Do you want me to gaslight Babe the way you did to my mother?
Adam: Oh --
J.R.: You want me to throw her in a loony bin? Is that it?
David: There's nothing about this that's easy. Someone has to suffer. But I'll be damned if it's going to stay Bianca.
Krystal: I know you love her.
David: I'm sorry for what this is going to do to Babe, but she'll survive.
Krystal: There's something else.
David: What? What? What, another trick from your bag?
Krystal: I don't have any tricks, David. I got nothing except -- oh -- I -- I don't even know how to say it. I --
David: Oh, come on, Krystal. When you want something, it's obvious that you plan every single word.
Krystal: No, no, not this time. God help me, I am winging it. David -- David, look at me. Are you set on doing this? Well, then I guess my hands are tied. But before you walk in there, before you march up those stairs, you have a right to know who it is you're taking that baby away from.
Adam: J.R., I know this hits a nerve, but I can't deny what I did to your mother.
J.R.: You know, she didn't deserve it.
Adam: No, of course not. I knew that -- I know that now. I will always regret it. But at the time, I didn't think I had a choice.
J.R.: Sure. You were forced to slip her mickeys, mess with her head till you broke her, right?
Adam: I did it for you.
J.R.: Oh, no -- you know, don't do that. Don't even go --
Adam: I know -- I know how much you loved your mother and how difficult this is for you to hear, but at the time, I didn't think that she was fit to raise my child. Just as you don't think Babe is fit to raise yours.
J.R.: No, don't -- don't compare Babe to my mother.
Adam: I'm only saying that they were not equipped -- they were not equipped to handle --
J.R.: My mother was innocent!
Adam: I know that! I'm not saying that your mother and Babe are the same sort of people.
J.R.: No, no, no. You ever mention Babe and my mother's name in the same breath, I swear to God I will knock the hell out of you.
Greenlee: Playing it cool while my husband's in Vegas with Kendall makes me want to punch something, or someone, a lot.
Jack: Yeah, sure it does, because you want to fight for what's yours.
Greenlee: Being nice is totally overrated and completely against my nature.
Jack: Well, I kind of like your nature just the way it is.
Greenlee: Good. Because I don't look good in halos. Do me a favor.
Jack: Yeah, I'll spot you at least 10 points.
Greenlee: I've got a set time limit on my relationship with Ryan, in writing.
Jack: Yeah, that would be that six-month renewal option.
Greenlee: Exactly. The buzzer sounds, I'm out of the game. Promise me you'll do the same with Erica.
Jack: Deal. The clock is officially running.
Jack: Don't move. I can't stand to watch that again. Let me help you out a bit. Come over here. I want you to aim, focus. One fluid motion, please.
Erica: Bianca doesn't want me, Ryan. She told me I'm not her mother anymore.
Ryan: Bianca still loves you. She wants to be a family again.
Erica: I doubt that. Look, can we just forget these homecoming plans? What? What is it, Ryan?
Ryan: Something happened after you left Pine Valley.
Erica: What? Tell me.
Ryan: When -- when Bianca was in the hospital, she somehow got it in her head that Babe Chandler's child was Miranda, and she took Bess from the hospital nursery.
Erica: Oh, my God. Oh, I had no idea. Is she all right? I mean, is the baby -- what happened?
Ryan: Bianca's fine. The baby is fine.
Erica: Oh, thank God.
Ryan: Everything was kept pretty quiet. No charges were pressed, and everybody's back where they belong. But, at first, when Bianca thought she was bringing Miranda home, do you know where she went? Do you know who she wanted to share the news with? You, Erica. When we found Bianca, she was at your penthouse, waiting for you to come home so she could show you her child.
Erica: Oh -- and I wasn't there for her.
Ryan: Well, you can be there for her now. You may want to let go of your family and the people that love you, but they are holding on to you with everything that they have.
Erica: No, they're holding on to each other. They'll be fine.
Ryan: You mean like you, Erica? You've created a fantasy world, Erica -- bright lights and lots of flash, but that's all it will ever be -- a fantasy. If you come home with me, you still have a shot at the real thing.
Maggie: It's not like I was going to throw you into a lip lock again. How can I act on feelings that I don't even understand?
Bianca: Well, you took the first step. You put them out there.
Maggie: Yeah, then why do I feel like such an idiot?
Bianca: Oh, Maggie, give yourself a break, please? I'm not going to give you the lesbian pop quiz -- yet. I'm kidding. But I promise you, you will figure this out.
Maggie: I feel like I've been thrown into the deep end, and I don't know how to swim.
Bianca: There's a lifeguard on duty.
Bianca: Oh. Come here, please.
[Bianca gives Maggie a hug]
Erica: I'm scared, Ryan.
Ryan: Sure you are, Erica, but Bianca and Jackson and Kendall, they're just as scared as you, maybe more.
Erica: I don't know if I'm tough enough to take this on.
Ryan: Well, you got me. What else could go wrong?
Erica: My father. My father will follow me, and he'll be strong, just the way he was at the hospital.
Ryan: Well, we'll take him on together, all of us. Somehow, he might be stronger than you, Erica, which I doubt, but there is no way he is stronger than everybody that loves you, Erica, and if we all take him on together, I mean, he doesn't stand a chance. We can do this. We can make it right. We can send this ghost away for good, Erica. What do you say?
Erica: Take me home.
Babe: I made the right decision. As hard as it was, it was for the best. I promise I will be the best mom you could ever want, Bess. Forever and always.
Adam: You're absolutely right. I never should have gone to those extremes with your mother. Dixie was an angel compared to this little guttersnipe you brought home.
J.R.: Yeah, well, Babe has twisted my gut too many times. I want her gone.
Adam: I couldn't agree more. So all we have to decide is how to play it, whether we just let it go on, let Babe slip up on her own, or do we get down to business and give her a little shove.
Krystal: David, just -- just give me a minute, hear me out, and then you can do whatever it is you need to do.
David: What are you doing?
Krystal: You don't remember, do you?
David: What the hell are you talking about?
Krystal: The party -- 20 years ago? You were wasted.
David: Yeah, I already told you that.
Krystal: I know, I know. We all were. I didn't even recognize you until I saw you tossing them back with Ron at BJ's, and then it hit me. Dave Hayward. Yeah, maybe a kinder, gentler David Hayward, but no doubt about it, the same guy.
David: All right, look -- this trip down memory lane has been fascinating, really, but no good.
Krystal: Wait, wait, wait a minute. You go in there, and the heart that you're going to be ripping out is your daughter's. Ron Fitzgerald isn't Babe's daddy. You are.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Maggie: I told Bianca I think I might love her. How do I take it back?
David: I still have a sample of Babe's DNA. In less than 24 hours I can prove that you're lying.
Greenlee: Don't think you can keep jerking Ryan around, because if you think I'm going to let you hurt him again, you're going to know a whole new kind of pain.
