All My Children Transcript Tuesday 6/1/04

Jack: Babe, is it true?
J.R.: Tell them, Babe. Tell them. Tell them that our baby didn't die, and that this is our baby. This is our baby.
Kendall: Is she? Or did you call her Miranda because that's the truth? Is this my sister's baby?
Krystal: Go ahead, Babe. Tell them.
Babe: Tell them?
Krystal: Mama's here, honey. I'm with you all the way.
J.R.: What is she saying? What -- what, is there something to tell?
Kendall: If there is, we all need to hear it.
Babe: I --
Tad: Hey. Somebody move the wedding inside, forget to tell us about it? Guess you were right.
Jamie: The wedding's still happening, isn't it, J.R.?
J.R.: As soon as our guests stop trying to steal my daughter. They want to know if Bess is Miranda.
Tad: Are you for real? How could there be any doubt?
David: It never occurred to you that we had two unconscious mothers and one SOB with an agenda to vouch for what happened?
Tad: Sure it did -- a long time before it occurred to you. Didn't you tell them?
Adam: Tell us what? For God's sakes, will someone give us a straight answer?
Tad: I don't know what you're waiting for. Looks like this would be a good time to admit what I did.
J.R.: What did you do to my baby?
Bianca: J.R. has his reasons, as any father would. But I have my own reasons for wanting to keep away from Bess.
Maggie: Well, I don't think you want to keep away from Bess because I saw how you were with her -- the way that she lit you up when you held her.
Bianca: It's true. When I look at her face, it makes me realize how much love I have to give. But then I have to remind myself that she's not Miranda. She's not my child. And it is wrong of me to transfer the feelings that I have for my child over to somebody else's. Maggie, this a -- a huge light bulb moment for me. My shrink is going to be so proud.
Maggie: I know. I just don't want you to be so hard on yourself. Because if being with Bess makes you happy, then that's what you should do.
Bianca: I know. Look, this is what's best. Trust me, I know this is right. Today we're going to celebrate Bess. And then I'm going to do what I told J.R. -- I'm going to see her as little as possible. Because that's what's best for me and for Bess and for everyone.
J.R.: This better be good, Tad.
Tad: J.R., I'm sorry. The only reason I kept what I did secret is cause I wanted to spare you. I didn't think it was right to drag everybody through more hell.
Kendall: Ok, so you came up with the same thing that we did. That's why we have to test this baby.
Tad: No, we don't. Because my father's already run a DNA test.
Adam: He what? Who in the hell authorized that?
J.R.: What was the result, Tad?
Tad: Bess is 100% yours and Babe's.
Kendall: Yeah, but what about -- what about Paul Cramer? I mean, how do we know he didn't make a mistake at the crash site, and then try to cover up for it? He works out of the hospital, right?
Adam: I can't believe what I'm hearing.
David: Yes, that's right! I mean, Cramer easily could've changed the results. The security in that hospital is a joke.
Greenlee: He had access and opportunity.
Kendall: Yes, exactly.
Tad: Kendall, nobody knew about the test except for my father until after it was over. And the results were definitive.
Kendall: Are you sure, Tad? Are you sure there's no chance?
Tad: I'm sorry. But, yes. I had the same considerations that you do. I thought that maybe Bianca took Bess because she had some instinct that nobody else did.
Adam: That's outrageous. That's totally outrageous! As the child's grandfather, I should've been informed as to what tests were being made, why they were --
Tad: Why don't you just shut up? I just informed you that Bess is your grandchild beyond a shadow of a doubt. Why can't you ever say something righteous, like "thank you," and move on?
Adam: Well, let's see what my lawyer has to say about it.
Tad: As always, your humanity is staggering.
Jack: Well, I guess it was too much to hope that it might be true.
Greenlee: I wanted it, too, Kendall. I really did. I'm sorry.
[Knock on door]
Reggie: Whoa. Hello! Wait a minute. Are you who I think you are?
Lily: I'm Lily.
Livia: Did you think I wouldn't notice? Did you think I would get a huge credit card bill and not even check the charges?
Danielle: I have to shop. What's the big deal?
Livia: Oh, well, the big deal is that I don't buy $300 shoes for myself. Did you think I'd want to pay for yours?
Danielle: If my dad would get me my own card like I asked, then I wouldn't have to run up the charges on yours.
Derek: And whose idea was it to steal your aunt's credit card? As if I couldn't guess.
Reggie: Jackson's going to be knocked out when he sees you.
Woman: Oh, sorry. The parking here is impossible. I'm Ms. Hopkins from Lily's school.
Reggie: Oh. Oh, why don't you guys come in?
Ms. Hopkins: Oh, no -- Lily doesn't do touch. Is Mr. Montgomery here?
Lily: Someone's going to knock him out?
Reggie: Hmm? Look, no, no, no, no. He's at a wedding. Why don't you come in, come in. I don't think my dad knew she was coming home so soon.
Ms. Hopkins: Nobody knew. You're Reggie, aren't you?
Ms. Hopkins: You remember, from the pictures your father gave you?
Lily: Reggie's my brother?
Ms. Hopkins: That's right. Your father has explained Lily's autism spectrum disorder to you?
Reggie: Yeah. It's hard for her to get used to new places.
Ms. Hopkins: Well, that's why she has the pictures.
Ms. Hopkins: She's also very literal when it comes to language. You have to be careful how you word things.
Reggie: Oh. Yeah, the part about Jackson being "knocked out."
Ms. Hopkins: Yeah, it's important to think before you speak. Mr. Montgomery may have told you -- Lily's favorite teacher moved to California, and she's been having trouble adjusting.
Lily: Ms. McConnell moved to San Francisco, California. That's 2,913 miles away from my school.
Ms. Hopkins: Lily was very attached to Ms. McConnell.
Reggie: Yeah, that's the reason why, you know, J decided to let her stay here for school.
Ms. Hopkins: Apparently, she couldn't wait. Today we caught her running away.
Lily: I don't want to stay at school without Ms. McConnell.
Ms. Hopkins: That's why we're here, Lily. She was halfway to the bus when we found her. I was coming this way anyway, so I offered to bring her. They were supposed to contact her father before I got here.
Reggie: Well, he's been gone for most of the day.
Ms. Hopkins: I -- I really can't leave her without her father being here.
Reggie: Well, it's ok. I'll just call him on his cell phone. He shouldn't be too hard to find.
Jack: Well, I'm just glad we didn't drag Bianca into this. It would've been devastating to her to have her hopes dashed again.
Greenlee: Well, he's the one you should thank.
Jack: Well, a good call, Ryan, thank you.
Ryan: It's not the ending that I hoped for.
Greenlee: Yeah, but you did the right thing. It's obvious we can all trust my husband to take care of us.
J.R.: You should finish be getting ready.
Babe: I am ready.
J.R.: Then let's do this. There's people waiting.
Babe: J.R., I love you so much.
J.R.: I love you, too.
Kendall: I'm sorry, J.R. I'm really, truly sorry. You're angry. I -- you should be. But what happened today -- it wasn't meant to hurt you. I mean, you're such a good friend, and I really care about you. I just -- I -- I don't think you could possibly imagine what this has been like for Bianca and for all of us.
J.R.: Well, what just happened in there -- it was close enough.
Kendall: I would never wish the pain that Bianca's been through on anybody, especially you.
J.R.: You know what? You've -- you've said what you need to say. I don't need any more trouble, Kendall.
Kendall: Well, neither do I. I just -- I want you to understand. When you told me how Babe lied to you over and over again, and then I find out that her ex-husband is the pilot who crashed the helicopter -- and then I walk in and I hear her calling this baby Miranda -- I finally get how Bianca could convince herself that Bess was hers. I mean, it didn't take much for me to get there. I swear, I looked at her and I can see Bianca in her eyes.
J.R.: Well, you were wrong, Kendall, about a lot. You didn't really see Bianca in my baby. And you were wrong to bring it up today of all days. You were wrong to betray my confidence.
Kendall: I guess I can't expect you to understand.
J.R.: You understand this -- Bess is my child. No one will ever take her from me, not now, not ever.
Kendall: Good. Good, I -- you should never let them. I know I wouldn't.
Adam: I thought you ought to know -- the rumor inside is the wedding is off. Care to confirm or deny?
J.R.: This wedding is happening right now.
Kendall: Well, I guess I -- I'd better take my seat, if you still want me here.
J.R.: Sure. Why not.
Adam: Thank God she's ours.
Jamie: Babe? Are you ok?
Babe: I'll be fine.
Jamie: Sorry about what happened down there. I can't imagine believing for even a second that it could have been your baby that -- you must be so relieved.
Jamie: I know J.R. is. I honestly don't think that he could have taken it.
Babe: Well, it -it'd kill us both, but we'd have to make it through.
Jamie: Not J.R. Like I told you, losing his mother was huge, and I guarantee you he still thinks about the two baby sisters that he lost. Look, this thing today -- J.R.'s pretty tough, but I'm not sure he can recover from something like that. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm glad that my father did the test, and I'm glad that it turned out the way it did.
Babe: I -- I have to go finish getting ready, Jamie.
Jamie: I'll see you downstairs. Oh, Babe? You're a beautiful bride.
Bianca: Babe, what's wrong? Did something happen with J.R.? It's not the baby, is it?
Tad: You ok?
Krystal: Yeah, it's great watching your daughter getting put through a grilling again, at her wedding. What is with the people in this town? It's like they go out looking for trouble.
Tad: Why didn't you just tell them the truth?
Krystal: Like that matters in this house.
Tad: No, I mean about the DNA test.
Krystal: Well, give a girl a minute. I was barely in there for a heartbeat before you came waltzing in. Thank God you did show up when you did. They never would have believed it from me.
Tad: You better be careful. You going to start to sound grateful.
Krystal: I am. If you hadn't done that DNA test, they'd have been traipsing Babe down to the hospital in her wedding gown while everybody sat around here getting sloshed on overpriced champagne, picking caviar out of their teeth, waiting for the test results. That would have been some kind of wedding.
Tad: I'm happy it's over. I'm even happier that you're no longer angry about it.
Krystal: Listen, why don't you find yourself a seat? I think here in second we're going to actually have something to celebrate Big fat mess, huh?
David: I would have run that test, Krystal.
Krystal: And I wouldn't have blamed you. I know what Bianca's baby meant to you.
David: Do you?
Krystal: Well, at least I know how I'd feel if it was Babe's child that -- that died and I thought for a second that there is a chance that her baby was alive, and I would move heaven and earth to prove it. So while I am grateful for so much, I-- I'm sorry -- I'm sorry that you've been let down again. I'm sorry.
Babe: The baby's fine, Bianca. Honest. So is J.R.
Bianca: Then what happened? Why did you have to go down there now?
Babe: It's a long story, but it's all taken care of. I'm just -- I'm so stressed out. The wedding was supposed to start 30 minutes ago. Can you imagine what the guests must be thinking?
Bianca: Who cares? Nobody's going anywhere. J.R.'s not going anywhere, and he's the only one that matters, right?
Babe: You're right. J.R. really, honestly does love me.
Bianca: I'm so happy for you, for both of you.
Babe: I love you so much, Bianca. I never had a friend who's meant as much to me as you do.
Krystal: You ready to do this, Babe?
Bianca: Ok, I'll go down and make sure that everyone's in their proper place.
Babe: I'll see you downstairs.
Krystal: Oh. Oh, Babe. That was quite a ride down there in the library. You ok now?
Babe: I know what I have to do, Mama.
Krystal: Honey, listen. Before you do anything, why don't you just take a minute and clear your head, all right? You have been on one heck of a roller coaster.
[String music plays]
Babe: It's too late, Mama. J.R.'s waiting. They're all waiting.
["Here Comes the Bride" plays]
Minister: Dearly beloved, we have come together today in the presence of God to witness and bless the joining together of this man and this woman in holy matrimony. Into this holy union, Adam Chandler Jr. and Arabella Carey now come to be joined. If anyone can show just cause why these two may not legally be married, speak now or else forever hold your peace.
Derek: Did you just roll your eyes?
Danielle: What's the big deal?
Derek: Credit card fraud, for starters. Seven years maximum sentence. I bet your friend Reggie forgot to mention that.
Danielle: What's Reggie got to do with it?
Derek: Everything, would be my guess.
Danielle: Daddy, this was all my idea. It has nothing to do with Reggie. And if you'd bother to ask, you'd know that I plan on paying Aunt Livia back.
Livia: Oh, you bet you will.
Derek: Yeah, every cent. Here.
Danielle: Ew. This is why I have to shop for myself. What am I supposed to do with this ugly thing?
Derek: It's an apron. You wear it.
Danielle: Uh-uh, you wear it.
Derek: The manager of the Serving Spoon is doing us a favor. She said you could start right away and work through the summer.
Danielle: I can't work there. I already have a job -- at Fusion.
Derek: Since when?
Danielle: Since Bianca Montgomery decided they couldn't survive the summer without me.
Derek: Bianca is Reggies cousin. You are forbidden to see Reggie.
Danielle: Can we lay off the Reggie trip? This is about me.
Livia: Isn't everything? What could you possibly do at Fusion?
Danielle: It's kind of like a youth marketing consultant position, which is why I had to buy a new wardrobe. If I'm representing today's youth market --
Derek: Then we're all in big trouble.
Danielle: Come on, Daddy. You have to admit these hip-huggers are just too cute to return. Everything I have is so last month. I thought you'd be proud that I'm so motivated. It's like a real career.
Derek: Well, I haven't said yes yet. Please tell me that these were on sale.
Danielle: See, I'll never be able to afford them from tips from the Skanky Spoon.
Derek: What the -- when did you get this?
Reggie: My dad must have turned his cell phone off for the wedding, and the Chandlers are too rich to be listed.
Ms. Hopkins: Well, this is awkward.
Reggie: Well, I mean, the wedding can't go on too much longer. You can leave Lily here with me until Jack gets back. I could watch her. Yeah, her room's straight and everything.
Ms. Hopkins: No. I don't know.
Reggie: Lily, are you cool with that?
Lily: I'm not cold.
Reggie: I know, I know. Literal. I'm going to get it.
Ms. Hopkins: It's not that simple.
Reggie: I'm her brother, ok? My dad explained to me the whole disorder thing. We'll sit here. We won't go anywhere. We won't do anything. We'll just let Lily get used to being someplace new.
Ms. Hopkins: You won't try to take her out?
Ms. Hopkins: And you cannot leave her alone, not for a minute.
Reggie: Ok, I got it.
Ms. Hopkins: I could still catch my flight. Here's my cell phone number if you need me.
Reggie: Ok, all right. I got it.
[Ms. Hopkins sighs]
Ms. Hopkins: I have to go now, Lily. Your brother's going to take care of you, ok? She's a good girl. You'll see.
Reggie: Yeah. Thank you.
Ms. Hopkins: Yeah.
Reggie: It's cool. We're just going to chill here until Jack gets back.
Lily: I said I'm not cold.
[Reggie repeatedly bounces a basketball on the wood floor.]
Lily: Stop! Stop it!
Derek: Is this tattoo your thanks to Reggie for getting you the job? Or is something else going on here?
Danielle: No! And Reggie didn't give me the job. Someone out there actually thinks I have some talent, believe it or not.
Derek: Yeah, talent for listening to other people's ideas!
Danielle: Reggie didn't say anything to make me get the tattoo.
Derek: And this -- this is your brilliant idea? What's going on with you and Reggie, anyway
Danielle: The only time we really spent together was when you made me work with him in the music store.
Derek: Oh, so -- so now it's my fault that you hooked up with this -- this junior player!
Danielle: He's not a player, Daddy, and we're not hooked up!
Derek: You are on the next train back to your mother.
Danielle: No, wait! You can't! Aunt Livia! Daddy, what about my job?
Derek: I don't care about some job! You're going back to your mother's.
Danielle: Now I get it. This is what you wanted all along. You never wanted me here.
Derek: I didn't say that I didn't --
Danielle: Daddy, I thought you loved me I thought you would be happy that I wanted to live with you.
Derek: Danielle, I do love you. I'm just saying that you --
Danielle: Forget it. You want me gone, I'm out of here.
J.R.: In the name of God, I take you, Babe, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward. For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, and to love and to cherish.
Babe: Until we are parted by death, this is my solemn vow.
Minister: Do you have the rings?
J.R.: Um -- if we could just hold on one second. We're going to break from tradition a few ways today, and as some of you already know, there was a bit of a glitch with our first wedding, so if it seems like it's a real wedding versus a renewal of vows, that's because it is. And I'd like to continue in that vein now.
Babe: What are you doing?
J.R.: Just one more thing I have to do. I would like to say a vow to my daughter. Bess, as your father, make this solemn vow. I will love and comfort you every day of your life. I will be there for you wherever and whenever you need me. This world can be a very, very harsh place, but I promise that you can always count on me, no matter what. I love you more than I ever thought was possible, and I'll never let you doubt that love, not even for a minute. As a token and pledge of our constant faith and abiding love, with this ring I thee wed, in the name of the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Babe: As a token and pledge of our constant faith and abiding love, with this ring I thee wed, in the the name of the father and the son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Minister: Now that Babe and J.R. have given themselves to each other by solemn vows, by the joining of hands, and by the giving and receiving of rings, I pronounce them husband and wife, in the name of the father, the son, and of the Holy Spirit. Those whom God have joined together let no one put asunder. If Mommy and Daddy will kiss each other, I can pronounce them husband and wife.
Babe: So pretty.
J.R.: Now, if everyone will join us for the christening of our beautiful daughter --
J.R.: We would appreciate that kindly.
Minister: You have been invited here today as family and friends for your prayers and spiritual support in the life of this child.
Babe's voice: What about Bianca? How can I be happy? How can I be the best mama that this baby deserves, knowing what I'm doing to my best friend?
Minister: That heaven comes down and surrounds the child with God's love.
Babe's voice: She's Bess Chandler. Miranda's daddy was the devil, but Bess -- her daddy loves her and adores her. How can I tell J.R.? What words possibly exist to explain this? If I take Bess away from him, I don't think he'll ever recover. Bianca is still so sad. Do I take you away from the daddy who loves you more than his own life?
Minister: And former dedicate yourself to our heavenly creator.
Babe's voice: Or do I keep you away from the mama who misses you down to your little heartbeat? Give me a sign. Just tell me what to do, ok? Oh, Miranda.
Minister: Babe and J.R., will you strive to do this to the best of your ability?
Babe and J.R.: We will.
Minister: Bianca Christine Montgomery and James Edward Martin, as godparents to Elizabeth, God will give you the wisdom and ability to hold within your heart forever the spiritual welfare of this child. You are charged with the responsibility of seeing to the spiritual welfare of this child should the need arise. And it is you who stand as spiritual counselors. Do you accept this duty and charge?
Bianca and Jamie: We do.
Minister: Do you promise to love, honor, support, and encourage the child throughout her life?
Bianca and Jamie: We do.
Minister: What name has been chosen for this child.
Bianca: Elizabeth -- Miranda.
Minister: So be it. We christen you Elizabeth Miranda in the name of the --
Babe: Wait -- wait. I'm sorry. There's something I have to say. It's important. About Bianca. She's not just her godmother. Bianca's also her mama.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Babe: I can't turn my back on Bianca. I -- I can't live -- not with this baby.
Kendall: You don't deserve a happily ever after, Babe, and after everything you've done, you will never, ever get it.
Bianca: Kendall, don't do this.
Kendall: And when the sky falls, you'll remember this day and exactly what I said.
