Bianca: You know, when I -- when I asked Kendall about Mom, she really didn't give me an answer. But I know that she hasn't been home, so, what's going on, Uncle Jack?
Jack: Well, your mom left town for a while. I think she just needed to get her head on straight, you know?
Bianca: Well, I guess I could hardly blame her for that. I mean, her problems are pretty much all because of me.
Jack: Oh, no, no, no, no. I think your mother needed to get out of here and just get away from all of us, you know?
Bianca: Because of what I did. Uncle Jack, I said such cruel and hurtful things to her. I told her that I wished she wasn't my mother. I really let her have it.
Jack: No, sweetheart, do not take this on yourself, ok? Really. Now, I will help get Erica through this. We will get her back on track just like we always do. And we'll get you through this, too. I promise, ok?
Krystal: My poor, sweet grandbaby. Nobody knows you died. Nobody but me. Not Bianca's child, my Babe's. Oh, Lord -- Lord, please, please keep my little girl's baby safe and warm in your heart. Please, God, please.
Anita: Any news yet? Well, Maria, you know a procedure like Edmund's could take hours. If there was any kind of information this early on, it would mean things weren't going according to plan.
Maria: Yeah, I know, I know.
Anita: All right, well, don't try to think like a doctor. Today you're a wife and I'm your sister, so when I say take it easy, listen to me.
Maria: Ok. But since I'm the wife, I'm allowed to be apoplectic.
Anita: If you want to.
Maria: Ok, thanks. Brooke.
Brooke: Sorry. I'm not here to bother you, I just thought I'd check with the desk to see how Edmund is doing.
Maria: We haven't heard anything yet. It's going to be a while.
Brooke: All right, well, I guess I'll -- I'll check back later.
Maria: Brooke? Wait a sec. Do you want to buy me a cup of coffee?
Brooke: In case you're not already climbing the walls, you mean?
Maria: Yeah, yeah, basically.
Opal: I don't know what you're so afraid of. It's just a little doctor's appointment.
Palmer: I am a very busy man.
Opal: Yeah, busy thinking of excuses to cancel.
Palmer: Oh, nonsense. Look at me, look at me. I have the figure of a man in his 20s.
Opal: Yes, and the brains of a 2-year-old. Oh, my Lord!
Palmer: Anita? For heaven's sakes!
Opal: Oh, my goodness!
Palmer: Why didn't you let me know you were in town? Where is my grandson Bobby?
Erica: What did you just say?
Bobby: You were betrayed by someone you were certain you could trust.
Erica: Well, we've all been lied to.
Bobby: Yeah, but not hurt so badly that we suspect everyone that we meet.
Erica: I don't suspect everyone I meet.
Bobby: This person that betrayed you -- you must have loved them very much.
Erica: Roberto, you know, maybe you're just looking into this too deep. I mean, it could be because I hardly know you that I just needed a little reassurance.
Bobby: All right, ok. Ask me anything. I'll be upfront. I'm an open book.
Erica: Why were you so nice to me? I mean, ever since that day we met in Laceys, you've been nothing but kind to me.
Bobby: I -- I liked you the minute I saw you struggling with that stupid talking doll. I sympathized with you.
Erica: Because I was so inept I didn't know how to shut the thing off?
Bobby: No, no, no. No, no, you were overwhelmed. I just -- I liked you because you accepted my help without caring who or what I was. You know, I thought that maybe you were as messed up and lost as I was.
Erica: You were right.
Krystal: How could you do this? What would it have hurt to let them live, to let both those girls love their babies? Why? Why did you have to take my little girl's baby? It was cruel! It was cruel and terrible. And if you are truly righteous -- if you're truly righteous, you did not let that baby suffer. You couldn't. There must have been something awful for that child in the future. That's why you took that baby now. That's it, isn't it? To protect my grandbaby from some terrible pain later on, something worse. That's got to be it, and that's what I will tell myself till the day I die. Till the day I die. That's when I'll finally meet my daughter's child. And I will. I will, no matter what you think, no matter what I did. I know the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, but you took too much! So I gave it back! I gave my daughter a baby. I had no choice. I had to switch the label on those vials. Not for me! Not for me -- for Babe! And nobody, no one is going to find out about it. Nobody will know about it but you and me and that sweet little baby that you took home with you.
Palmer: Well, it's pretty clear Bobby avoided me because he couldn't make good on that debt. I'm right, aren't I?
Anita: He has a lot of pride.
Palmer: Yes, well, sometimes misplaced.
Anita: He -- he really thought he struck it big. I mean, this deal was supposed to change our lives.
Palmer: All the years that I worked with him, he didn't learn a damn thing.
Anita: He tries. You know, he's always been a dreamer. That's part of the reason I fell in love with him.
Palmer: Well, he should spend more time with his feet on the ground. He really should. I don't know where he'd be if he didn't have someone like you with common sense.
Anita: Well, he just got this great job in Las Vegas.
Opal: Las Vegas? Erica's in Las Vegas.
Palmer: Shush. Why aren't you in Las Vegas with your husband?
Anita: Oh, I'm -- I'm here to help Maria out with Edmund. Yeah, he had his surgery today.
Opal: Oh, my Lord, I forgot.
Palmer: Well, it looks like a little bit more than just helping out. What -- what are you leaving out?
Anita: Nothing. No, nothing. I just -- I plan to stay here as long as Maria needs me.
Erica: So, you said that you're married. Is your wife here in the casino?
Bobby: Yeah, we're separated. She's considering a divorce.
Erica: You're opposed?
Bobby: Definitely. I -- I screwed it up. I had an affair on her. I know all about betrayal, Desiree.
Erica: I'm sorry.
Bobby: Yeah, so am I. But I'd never cheat on her again. But I guess the damage is done, so I'm hoping that -- you know, I'm hoping that she'll take me back.
Erica: You still love her?
Bobby: Yeah, I'll always love her. My wife is perfect, and I'm flawed. Now every time I try to suck it up and try to be perfect, I just screw it up even more.
Erica: Oh, come on, you couldn't have been that bad.
Bobby: Maybe it's the contrast, you know? I mean, she really is amazing, and next to her I look that much worse.
Erica: Well, what are you doing to try to get her back?
Bobby: Well, you know, I'm -- I'm listening to her wishes. She wants some time, she wants some space. But I'm not the man that I was when I trashed our marriage. You know? Anyway, maybe -- maybe it's not such a bad thing that we're spending some time apart from one another.
Erica: You're reinventing yourself here in Las Vegas.
Woman: Oh! Oh, my God!
Bobby: This is the place to do it. People here re-create themselves every time the bells go off on the slots or someone rolls three straight sevens.
Erica: Is it that easy?
Bobby: Well, I didn't say it was always for the better. But in Vegas, I fit. You know, no one knows that I screwed up my marriage, no one treats like I'm something broken that needs to be fixed.
Erica: Well, it sounds like my kind of town.
Bobby: Yeah. So -- so, have you decided to stay?
Erica: Well, I'm sick of being around people who blame me for everything that's wrong and won't give me any credit for anything that's right.
Bobby: Well, you definitely won't have that trouble here.
Erica: It's so odd, you know? I mean, I grew up in Pine Valley. I just assumed that everybody knew me. But they don't know me. They just simply know what they think I should be.
Bobby: Yeah, I'm with you there.
Erica: They just put what they're feeling on me. What I'm feeling, they don't care, and, you know, I've had it.
Bobby: Well, you've stumbled into the right town. Here you can rest --
Erica: Rest? Are you kidding? Rest? Not me. I mean, Erica Kane might rest in peace, but long live Desiree.
Bianca: Look at me, Uncle Jack. I barely exist right now. I don't know how I'm going to get through next week or next month.
Jack: You don't worry about next week or next month. Just worry about today. You put one foot in front of the other, and before you know it you'll be on with your life. And that night in the cabin and what happened afterwards will start to soften. The pain will --
Bianca: No, I won't forget the pain. I don't want to forget it. That would be like pretending that Miranda never existed.
Krystal: You sweet, sweet little baby. Nobody knows. They think you're Miranda. They're mourning for a baby who's still alive, healthy, beautiful. Bianca -- I'm sorry, I had to. Please, God, forgive me, but I had to. It was my child or yours.
Bianca: The minute that I let go of the pain, it's like letting go of my baby. I'll never forget the cabin, what we went through to bring Miranda into this world. That time that we spent together -- that's all I have left of her. My memories -- holding her, looking in her eyes. That moment when -- when Babe finally handed her to me and we all -- we all held onto each other, me and Miranda and Babe. I will always be so grateful for those precious moments that I shared with her.
J.R.: What are you doing? Hi. You're my little angel, Bess. No one's sweeter than you in the whole, wide world.
Babe: I've never seen you like this, J.R.
J.R.: Like what?
Babe: Over the moon.
J.R.: I've never been happier in my whole life. You made that possible.
Krystal: I hope you understand. I couldn't look your mama in the eye and tell her that you were gone. I couldn't do that to Babe. I can't -- I can't ever do that.
J.R.: One for Bess, one for Bess' mama.
Babe: Let's first see how badly you're going to be spoiling our little girl. Oh, it's precious!
J.R.: It's a tooth fairy pillow.
Babe: Get out.
J.R.: No, no, really. See, she puts the tooth in the pocket there, slides everything underneath the bed pillow. And that way the tooth fairy can leave the money, get the tooth easier -- you know what I'm saying.
Babe: No, it's adorable, but, J.R., honestly, she's not going to be losing her teeth for years.
J.R.: Well, I know that. I'm thinking about my daughter's future. And taking inflation into account, that's about 100 bucks a tooth. Here, it's your turn.
Babe: Ok. It's beautiful. Two hearts.
J.R.: For both my loves. That way when you look at it, you'll know how much I love the both of you.
Babe: I'll never forget.
Bianca: I could never forget, no matter how much time passes. What happened in that cabin is always going to be with me. Those -- those few moments that I shared with my baby -- they'll always live on in my heart.
Krystal: No one will mourn for you. But I'll cry for you. I'll never forget you. I promise I'll think about you every day of my life. And when I do, I'll see you safe -- safe in God's arms.
Kelly: You're my boy. My sweet boy. Here we go, let's lay down, huh? Ooh, there we go.
Anita: Here you go.
Palmer: What's that for?
Anita: It's -- it's toward the money Bobby owes you.
Palmer: Please, please put that away. I won't take it.
Anita: Palmer, please. He's my husband. His debts are mine.
Palmer: You worked hard for that money, and I don't need it.
Opal: Ain't that the truth.
Anita: Are you sure?
Palmer: I'm positive. Just put it away before you embarrass me, hmm?
Opal: You know, Myrt's going to be wearing a hole in the carpet downstairs if I don't get there, so I better skedaddle, ok?
Palmer: Go. Mm-hmm.
Opal: Would you make sure you get into that appointment, mister?
Palmer: Mm-hmm, yes, yes.
Opal: All right. And you -- wonderful to see you. You give your hubby a big hug for me.
Anita: I will, Opal.
Opal: All right, bye-bye.
Palmer: So, am I going to see you again?
Anita: You know, I really should have called, myself. I just -- I haven't had a minute.
Palmer: Oh, it's all right. Family's family. We got to do what we got to do.
Anita: You know what? I really think nothing would make Bobby happier than to hear you tell him that you're proud of him.
Palmer: Uh-huh. Well, he certainly has got a long way to go to hear that. I tell you what -- why don't you come have dinner with me, and then we can discuss Bobby and, you know, how much we love him and how much we'd like to wring his neck.
Maria: I've -- I've been totally unfair to you, Brooke.
Brooke: You had a lot on your mind.
Maria: No, no, no, I -- please, let me get this off my chest.
Maria: I just -- I've been so stressed out by all of this and so livid that we -- you know, we were finally getting our life back on track, finally getting it to a place that felt normal and right. And then he takes a bullet in the back, and I've got -- I can practice medicine again, but I can't do anything for him.
Brooke: Maria, you don't have to explain anything to me.
Maria: No, I do. I do. I finally realized that this is not about me, this is about Edmund, and I didn't want him to see how completely derailed I had become by all of this. And so I did what any red-blooded American wife would do and I -- I took it out on you.
Brooke: I'm tough, so you picked a good person.
Maria: Yeah, but I picked an easy target because I know how much you care about him, and I can imagine how you feel about what's going on with him and -- it was wrong. I was wrong to push you away at a time like this. And that's it. I'm done.
Brooke: Thank you.
Maria: Will you -- will you stay here until I hear something?
Brooke: Of course.
Maria: Thank you.
Brooke: Of course.
David: Well, Maria, you're married to one strong SOB.
Maria: Is he in recovery?
David: Yeah. He handled the procedure great. There wasn't a single cardiac event.
Maria: Oh, thank God. That's unbelievable. Thank you. Thank you so much. And? You couldn't remove the bullet, could you?
Brooke: What does that mean?
Maria: That means that Edmund will never walk again.
Bianca: I can't even imagine how this family is ever going to be ok. I mean, between me and -- and Mom and what Kendall has been through.
Jack: Well, you're right. Most families wouldn't be able to survive this. They'd come apart at the seams. But strong families -- like ours, kiddo -- they make it. They manage to survive.
Bianca: But if Mom is in trouble now --
Jack: If Mom's in trouble, we will take care of her. But first of all, you have to take care of yourself before you can help anybody else. Now, from what I understand, you're going to be discharged tomorrow. I'd like you to come and stay with Reggie and me until you can't take it anymore, and just let your old Uncle Jack take care of you. How does that sound?
Bianca: You know that you -- you've become so much more to me than that. I -- I -- I feel like I have a father again.
Jack: I like the sound of that. I like the sound of that very much.
Bianca: But I think that maybe Mom had the right idea, and maybe I should go out of town for a while --
Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Bianca: Until I get my head back on straight.
Jack: Oh, no, no, no, no. That is the worst idea I've ever heard. Why -- why would you even suggest such a thing?
Bianca: Uncle Jack, I am Pine valley's favorite scandal. And now everybody's going to think that I'm insane because I took Bess.
Jack: Now, you listen to me. Pine Valley at large doesn't know a thing about this, just a few people who absolutely love you to death. And that's the way it's going to stay, kiddo -- no police, no press, no nothing. You got me?
Bianca: Thank God for Babe and J.R.
Babe: Have I told you how perfect the two of you are together?
J.R.: Aw. You made this happen.
Babe: Not by myself. You're the best daddy that any baby could ever wish for.
J.R.: Aww. Babe, I don't think there's another mother out there that could love her baby more than you.
Krystal: I did a terrible thing. Believe me, that is not news to me. I even warned Tad there wasn't any place too low I'd go for the sake of my girl. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, little one. I'm sorry there's nobody but me to pray for your little soul and miss your sweet spirit. But I'm a mother. I'm a mother, and we protect our own. That's what we do, no matter what. And if I burn in hell for it, so be it.
Bobby: I'd hate to see all of Erica Kane disappear.
Erica: No great loss.
Bobby: I disagree. I think Erica Kane was very special.
Erica: If you can re-create yourself here in Las Vegas, why can't I?
Bobby: You don't have to completely deconstruct to do it.
Erica: You mean, keep the good parts, only dump the parts that don't work?
Bobby: That's pretty much my plan. Hey, I may be way off here, but are we getting along again?
Erica: Well, of course we are. Why wouldn't we be?
Bobby: So, Desiree, have you forgiven Roberto?
Erica: Have you forgiven me?
Bobby: Definitely. So we're friends, after all?
Erica: We're on our way. We're working on it. Friendship has to be earned.
Bobby: Ok. I can live with that.
Erica: And you'll never lie to me -- never.
Bobby: Like he did?
Erica: Like who did?
Bobby: The man who betrayed you. He lied, didn't he? I'll do my best. All right?
Erica: All you have to do is be honest with me. That's all I need.
Bobby: Ok. It's a deal.
Erica: Well, there is one more requirement, and that might be a deal breaker.
Jack: Now, you listen, you. The last thing I need to worry about is another Kane woman, so no more talk about leaving Pine Valley, ok?
Bianca: All right. I don't want to worry anyone.
Jack: Good, then you just come stay with me, where you'll surrounded by people who love you. How does that sound?
Jack: Oh, yes!
Opal: Look who's here!
Jack: I'll have to make room here.
Bianca: What is this?
Myrtle: Hello, hello, hello, sweetheart. Hello. Ah, darling, darling, darling. Oh, how is my girl doing?
Bianca: I'm -- I'm so much better now that you're here. And that is the truth. But what is all this? Don't tell me that you bought me things that I don't need.
Myrtle: No. No, no, no, no, no -- I collected them.
Bianca: From whom?
Jack: Yeah, from everybody in Pine Valley, it looks like.
Opal: That's right. It's just a way for folks to say that they're thinking of you, honey.
Myrtle: Oh, darling, an awful lot of people love you. And I lead them all.
Bianca: Oh, Myrtle --
Myrtle: Oh, sweetheart. Listen, I know it's very difficult to make sense of what's happened, but just -- just trust in the good Lord. He has a plan. For everything.
Tad: I guess you and I had the same idea.
Krystal: What's that?
Tad: I just thought I'd come down and, you know, say a little prayer for Bianca's baby.
Krystal: Yeah. Yeah, me, too.
Tad: I'm sorry. I wouldn't hurt you for the entire world. I apologize if I ever caused you a moment's pain or doubt.
Krystal: Tad, don't, don't. Don't lose any sleep over me. I'm just trash who'd do anything to protect her daughter, remember?
Tad: Well, that's certainly not the way I think of you.
Krystal: Well, think about it again because that's exactly who I am.
Tad: Krystal, come on --
Krystal: Look, you never leave well enough alone, do you, Tad?
Tad: I just kind of -- I was just hoping that we could still be friends. I don't see why not. I mean, you know, the fact is that now, we're really -- we're family. There's birthdays and Thanksgiving and Christmas, and it's inevitable.
Krystal: You don't want us to be friends, Tad. The truth is, I don't, either. And as for being family -- well, how about when we're across the table from each other at Thanksgiving, we'll just say "Pass the gravy," leave it at that.
Dr. Marshall: The vertebrae are already shattered. Removing the fragments would likely weaken them further, which would have left him a quadriplegic.
Anita: What are his options?
Dr. Marshall: At this point, let the scar tissue continue to form in order to support what remains of the spinal cord.
Maria: This is not happening. This is not happening.
David: Edmund is doing well, Maria.
Maria: He's doing exactly how he was when he got rolled into surgery. Except for he doesn't have all the false hope, you know, that you spoon-fed him.
Dr. Marshall: Your husband knew that this was a possibility.
Maria: Oh, you -- you can't be serious. You can't be serious. I've been listening to my husband make plans for his future all based on the promises that you made to him. You practically guaranteed that he'd be walking again!
Dr. Marshall: We'd all hoped for a different outcome, Dr. Grey. I wouldn't have opened him up if I didn't think I could restore his mobility!
Maria: You've been blinding him with all of your credentials and your impressive success rates. And -- and the whole time you knew it was going to be a shot in the dark!
Dr. Marshall: I knew it was a risk he wanted to take!
Maria: Oh, hell, I'm not the expert and I knew it! Now I'm the one who's got to tell him the truth!
Dr. Marshall: I'll tell Edmund myself.
Maria: Oh, no --
Dr. Marshall: I want him to understand exactly why --
Maria: You're not going to get anywhere near my husband again! Do you understand me? Nowhere near my husband again! I will tell him what happened! I will tell him the truth, and you will stay the hell out of your lives! Get it?
Dr. Marshall: I'll check in later.
Maria: No, don't! Please, just move on to your next big, high-profile case, ok, but don't forget to tell them this time, though, that you're a big fraud! That you blew it, Marshall, and you failed. Ooh --
Luke: Oh --
David: Ok, I'm going to transfer him over. On my three. Ready? Everybody ready?
David: One, two, three. Good job.
David: All right. Why don't you take a few minutes alone with him? I'm going to get the staff up to speed, ok?
Maria: What is this going to do to you?
Erica: I haven't been completely dependent on anyone since I was a child. I mean, this new creation, me, this new me I've become, I can't just stay in a hotel suite and have all my meals and my clothes delivered to me and billed to you.
Bobby: Oh, Erica, I am not keeping you.
Erica: I have to remain independent.
Bobby: Ok, I assure you, your expenses are not coming out of my pocket. I mean, all casinos, they float high rollers. I mean, gamblers will lose hundreds of thousands of dollars, but if they're billed $7,000 for room and board --
Erica: Look, I don't intend to just hang out in my hotel suite all day long and read self-help books and watch psychobabble on TV.
Bobby: Good. I mean, that's a waste of Vegas.
Erica: Exactly. So there must be some work I can do. There must be something wonderful here, something exciting.
Bobby: You ever deal blackjack?
Erica: Desiree is ready to soak up every experience this town has to offer.
Bianca: Oh, Myrtle, a crystal. You know I love crystals.
Bianca: What is that inside?
Myrtle: It's a mustard seed.
Opal: Oh, Myrt --
Bianca: The symbol of faith.
Opal: Oh. "If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed" --
Myrtle: "You can move mountains." You know, anything is possible.
Bianca: Myrtle, thank you. Thank you so much.
Myrtle: You're welcome.
Bianca: Please thank everybody so much for me.
Myrtle: You're welcome.
Opal: Of course, and looky here, honey -- if you hold this up to the light, it makes a rainbow.
Jack: Sure does.
Bianca: So there's hope after all.
Myrtle: Yes, you betcha.
Tad: Keep an eye on Bianca. Lord knows none of us can make it any better for her. No one can, but we can love her till she finds her way back in her own time, in her own way. Don't you worry, little one. I'll -- I'll keep an eye on your mama. And I'm sure Dixie will keep an eye on you. You'll do that for me, won't you, Dix? Take Miranda in your arms, hold her, just keep her safe, along with Kate. Love her up for us. Let her know how much we all miss her. Maybe, God willing, someday we'll all find some peace.
Babe: Oh, Mama!
Krystal: Hey, yourself, little mom.
Babe: Mama, you have missed so much already.
Krystal: Oh. Let me look at you first. Look at me. Oh, your color's back. Your eyes are bright. I'd say motherhood agrees with you.
Babe: It does, and you should see how in love with her daddy she already is. She won't even take her eyes off him for a second. Will you, huh? It is the most amazing thing.
Krystal: It's a miracle. So you're happy?
Babe: And beyond. It is the best thing that could ever happen to anybody. Well, of course, you already knew that, though.
Krystal: I sure do. I sure do. Oh.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
J.R.: Would you do me the honor of becoming my wife all over again?
Tad: You can't just up and leave.
Kendall: I have the feeling this is going to be a big day for all of us.
Man: Congratulations again, sir. You're in for a big day.
Ryan: You have no idea.
