David: Hey.

Maria: Hey.

David: Hi. I thought I'd stop by, see how you're doing before I scrub in for Edmund's surgery.

Maria: I'm going to scrub in, too.

David: No, you're not.

Greenlee: Kendall, hey. I came here to see how Bianca's doing.

Kendall: How would you be if you lost your baby not once but twice?

Greenlee: Kendall, you know, I'm serious about us getting past our differences. How do we do that? What's standing in our way?

Adam: Champagne all around.

Marian: Here we are.

J.R.: Well, Dad, what's all this?

Babe: I thought we put a cork in this homecoming celebration.

Adam: No, no, no, the party is not over until all the proper toasts have been made.

J.R.: Yeah, but where's Uncle Stuart?

Marian: Oh, he's waiting outside on the terrace for you.

J.R.: All right, ok. Then I'll make it short and sweet, all right? Um -- to my wife, Babe, who went through so much to bring our daughter into this world.

Babe: Bess' debut was no walk in the park, but for all that she's blessed us with, I would do it again in a heartbeat. To my beautiful Bess.

Marian: To Bess.

Babe: Cheers. To Bess.

J.R.: Bess, you're a real Chandler now. Ours and no one else's. Yeah.

Krystal: Hold it, Dr. Joe. Now, I know you're the head honcho here, but doing a DNA test on the sly, siding with this home wrecker -- I mean, talk about a power trip!

Tad: Yelling at me or my father is not going to change the results of the test. All right, enough of this. Out with it. Who does Bess belong with? Babe and J.R., or Bianca?

Krystal: Spit it out, Tad. What do those results say?

Tad: That your daughter is Bess' biological mother.

Krystal: That's no news flash to me, but I hope you two are satisfied, sneaking around behind everybody's back, stealing blood from my Babe like a vampire.

Joe: At least now we know the truth for certain.

Krystal: Damn straight we do.

[Phone rings]

Joe: Yes? Oh, yes. Thank you. I'll be right down. All right. Edmund's surgery is about to begin.

Krystal: You disappointed, Tad?

Tad: Oh, you bet. Damn right I'm disappointed. I couldn't wait to tell my son that his baby was dead.

J.R.: Uncle Stuart, do you remember those superhero comics that you, Scott, and I used to trade?

Stuart: Oh, I have the latest edition of "Magma Man versus the Moonbots" if you want to borrow it. I do!

J.R.: Thanks. But I just -- I remember when I was 10 years old, and how bad I wanted to possess those superpowers.

Stuart: But you got to use them for good, not for evil.

J.R.: Well, was it evil for me to wish to have X-ray vision so I could see through Ms. Birnbaum's clothes?

Stuart: I don't think you could see anything but her skeleton.

J.R.: Which proves that superpowers would be wasted on a 10-year-old. I've learned something since.

Stuart: Mrs. Birnbaum is too old for you?

J.R.: No. That you don't need a cape or a magic belt, or to be bulletproof to be a hero to your kid. Something changes when they're born. I now know how far I'd go, what lines that I'd cross to protect Bess. I'd take on the whole damn world. Because there's no greater superpower than the love you feel for your kid.

Stuart: Oh, boy. Oh, boy, just wait -- just wait until I tell Bess that she doesn't have just a dad, she's got a superdad.

Babe: Ok, sweet pea. Mommy loves you. You be a good girl for Auntie Marian, ok?

Marian: Yeah, so you can even call me Mimi like Colby does. Come on, little angel. We are going upstairs. Yes. You're beautiful.

Babe: Mary, would you excuse us for a minute? Adam and I need to clear the air in private.

Ryan: Hey. What's up?

Greenlee: Kendall and I are trying to find a way to make peace.

Ryan: Really?

Kendall: Yeah, of course. Greenlee's making such an effort.

Ryan: Well, I guess if you can figure out a way to do that, then all the power to you.

Jack: Well, hello, everybody. I just came from a little talk with Bianca's psychiatrist.

Kendall: Please tell me she's going to be all right.

Jack: Well, this Dr. Ellinson could only paint in the broadest of strokes, of course, and she has that patient-doctor confidentiality thing to deal with.

Kendall: Is she going to get through this?

Jack: Well, she said after the preliminary workup that she feels Bianca has both postpartum depression and posttraumatic stress.

Greenlee: Who wouldn't after what she's had to deal with?

Ryan: Yeah, I figured it would be something like that.

Jack: But Bianca says she's going to do everything she can to get back to normal, so she's going to be on a mild antidepressant for a little while and some daily therapy.

Greenlee: Bottom line?

Jack: Bottom line, the doctor thinks she's going to make a full recovery, thank God.

Ryan: Great. Is there anything that, you know, we can do, or --

Jack: Yeah. Just keep the love coming.

Greenlee: Bianca's going to get through this.

Kendall: Sometimes the hurt runs so deep you never get through it.

Greenlee: We're going to keep thinking positive thoughts, right? We'll do everything we can to make it easier.

Kendall: Oh, Ryan, I got your message about the meeting.

Greenlee: Yeah, me, too. I can't wait to get started again.

Ryan: Good. Be there early in the morning.

Greenlee: The agenda?

Ryan: My vision for Enchantment and Fusion -- take the ways that they complement each other and exploit the hell out of it.

Greenlee: Well, I've got tons of ideas -- products, promotions. Crossovers are really big right now, so I pulled up the numbers on --

Ryan: Whoa, whoa, whoa! Save some of that for tomorrow.

Greenlee: You can bottle and sell me.

Ryan: And you? What about you? You in?

Kendall: Yes, of course. I'm looking forward to our meeting and a productive working relationship. Excuse me, I have an appointment I can't miss.

Ryan: I'm going to go get the word on Edmund. Excuse me.

Jack: Well, now, that ought to be some meeting tomorrow, huh?

Greenlee: Things are going to pop.

Jack: I'll just bet.

David: Maria, you have no business being in that OR.

Maria: I'm not going in there to operate. I'm going in there to observe.

David: That's what you think you want to do, but you're wrong.

Maria: No. I have observed hundreds of operations!

David: That is not the issue here. We're talking about your husband.

Maria: Ok, look --

David: The stakes are much higher.

Maria: You're not going to change my mind, ok?

David: Don't make the same mistake that I made.

Maria: What if something goes wrong, David?

David: There won't be a damn thing that you can do about it. And you'll only be left with images that'll haunt you for the rest of your life.

Maria: Well, what good is my MD if I can't at least be in there when Edmund really needs me the most?

David: Dr. Marshall is a topflight surgeon. He's one of the best in his field.

Maria: He is an arrogant cowboy.

David: Well, that may very well be the case, but he also knows the risks as well as his own limitations. Edmund couldn't be in better hands. And I will be right there beside him for assistance if he needs me. Look, Maria, I know what you're feeling right now. I've been there. I know what desperation feels like, what helplessness feels like. So trust me on this, ok? Stay out of that OR. You're not going to do Edmund any good or yourself.

Maria: Damn it, David. All right, I'll stay out of there.

David: You're making the right choice.

Maria: Will you please, please just make sure that he comes out of there alive?

David: I'm going to do everything within my power, ok?

Krystal: Tad, that was low. I -- I take it back. I just -- I just strike out to keep Babe from being hurt.

Tad: I love J.R. He's my son. And you assumed I wanted to tell him that Bess wasn't his so I could crush the life out of him?

Krystal: No, I didn't think that for one second.

Tad: I didn't ask for this. I didn't ask for any of it. But I saw Bianca holding that baby, stone-cold convinced that her child was back safe and sound, and I couldn't get it out of my mind because I know what it feels like. Krystal, you have any idea what parents who lose their children dream about? Because I do. They dream about a phone call in the middle of the night, or some stranger walking up to their door and saying, "There's been a mistake. Your child's alive, and you can have your life back." Bianca's not going to get that phone call. Nobody's knocking on her door. But there was a chance, and I took it. Because I know from firsthand experience how desperate she was to get back what she lost. And I'm really sorry that I upset you, but I don't think I'll be losing too much sleep over it.

Babe: Here's the deal, Pops. Ever since we brought Bess home, you're giving me the stare-down. Why is that?

Adam: Well, honestly, Babe, I have seen qualities in you that I never dreamed existed.

Babe: Like what? And keep it clean.

Adam: I've seen an honest-to-God, selfless, devoted mother.

Babe: You really think that?

Adam: Yes, as hard as it is to believe. Yes, I do.

Babe: Well, I think I got you topped in the beyond belief department.

Adam: Oh, really? Really? Well, go ahead.

Babe: Well, you see, I think I'm starting to get you. I'm starting to get what drives you when it comes to your son.

Adam: Oh. Now you've piqued my curiosity.

Babe: You see, I feel the exact same way about Bess. I mean, nobody is going to hurt my little girl, and no one is going to get in the way of me protecting her. That's why I see I'm understanding you.

Adam: Hmm. This is a major switch.

Babe: You see, when J.R. brought me home and he dropped that whole marriage bomb on you, you pretty much treated me like dirt.

Adam: Oh, Babe --

Babe: Well, it's true. And it's fine because now I can see what set your radar off. I mean, there J.R. -- he meets me. I'm down and out. I mean, we hook up, and then all of a sudden the only thing he really knows about me is that I'm flat broke, and then he brings me here, he marries me, and I live in this place like a movie star. You know, it's no wonder that you looked at me with the fish eye. You thought that I was going to corner your son for his money and that eventually he would get hurt. And there's no way that you were going to let that happen, so you did your best to get rid of me. You hired private detectives and you tried to bribe me. You did your worst to protect J.R., and I'll be damned if I don't admire you for that.

Adam: Don't tell me you actually approve of what I did to you?

Babe: Not quite. How far you went for J.R.? That's how far I'd go for my Bess.

Adam: I don't know what to say.

Babe: Don't talk. Write.

Adam: What is this?

Babe: It's a baby book that I'm making for Bess. See, since it's her first day home, I'd like you to be the first one to write in it.

Jack: So tell me, what's the deal with you and Kendall and Ryan, huh?

Greenlee: Ahem. We're hyped about doing business together.

Jack: Yeah, well, Kendall seemed more tense than hyped.

Greenlee: It's me. She's still stuck on what I did to her at the trial.

Jack: Is that the only thing that's coming between you and Kendall?

Greenlee: It's big enough to have a life of its own.

Jack: How about Ryan? Is Ryan still a sore spot between you two?

Greenlee: Maybe in Kendall's mind.

Jack: Look, your love life is your own business.

Greenlee: I don't have a love life.

Jack: What I'm saying is not too long ago Kendall and Ryan were engaged, and then you and Ryan took off together shortly after that. And I'm just -- I guess what I'm trying to ask is --

Greenlee: I know what you're trying to ask. You want to know if I'm trying to come between Kendall and Ryan.

Jack: Bingo. So, are you?

Ryan: Hey.

Maria: Hey.

Ryan: It's going to be a while, right?

Maria: Yeah.

Ryan: You want to go for a stroll in the park, maybe grab a latte?

Maria: No. No, I don't want a latte. I don't want -- I don't want to go to the park.

Ryan: It's a beautiful day.

Maria: Oh, I know. The blooms are blooming and the whole world is reborn. The whole bloody circle of life is still spinning without me.

Ryan: What can I do?

Maria: Can you fast-forward time so that Edmund's back here in the room and we're laughing and joking and he's got the use of his legs and -- can you do that?

Ryan: I wish I could.

[Music plays]

Doctor: We're good to go anytime you're ready, Dr. Marshall.

Dr. Marshall: Welcome, David. Dr. Habeeb has given us the go-ahead.

David: Ok. Everybody's up to speed on the patient's cardiac history? He arrested twice during his last surgery.

Dr. Marshall: Edmund's cardiac status will be closely monitored. If we run into any problems, we have you here to troubleshoot.

David: Yes, you do.

Dr. Marshall: Scalpel.

[Babe and Adam laugh]

J.R.: What's all this?

Babe: J.R., come here. You have to hear what Pops wrote in Bess' baby book, ok? Ready? Ahem -- "Sweet Bess, today is your homecoming. Luck willing, you'll inherit your mother's beauty and your father's gamesmanship. Should you, however, inherit both my looks and sense of fair play -- well, darling Bess, you can always fall back on my millions, not to mention my love."

J.R.: Well, Dad, you certainly nailed yourself on that one.

Adam: Ouch.

Babe: You know, I always knew that you could be funny and mean, but funny and sweet? It's new. I think I like it.

Marian: Well, that little darling is in slumberland.

Babe: Marian, I really want you to put something down in Bess' baby book.

Marian: Oh, I'd be honored. Thank you.

Babe: Isn't that cute?

Marian: Yes.

Mary: You missed your calling. Your performance as the proud father-in-law is Oscar worthy.

Adam: Mary, eavesdropping? I'm shocked.

Mary: Well, I give you credit. Even Babe believes that you've accepted her into the family, when we both know better that you plan to get rid of the trashy little blonde. So tell me how I can help. When do we kick Babe and her mama over the county line?

Krystal: Losing a baby without a trace -- closest thing I can imagine to having your heart torn out.

Tad: I got to go.

Maria: Ok, you got to -- you got to help me here, Ryan. You got to distract me, keep my mind out of the OR. Please, please.

Ryan: So, hey, you think the Phillies got a chance of making the playoffs this year? Hey, how long do you think America's love affair with this low-carb diet thing is going to last?

Maria: You suck at this.

Ryan: Yeah.

Maria: Yeah.

Ryan: I do, but my offer for a stroll in the park and a latte still stands.

Maria: Yeah. How are you and Kendall?

Ryan: Wow. That's a high fly out of left field.

Maria: Well, you know, last time I saw you, you were at the gym. I was patching you up, gave you a little bit of advice.

Ryan: Oh, yeah -- hugging, not hitting.

Maria: Yeah. Did you do it? Did you hug her? Come on, please work with me here, Ryan. You got to either answer me or pull a rabbit out of your hat, because I'm trying here. Did you hug the hell out of her?

Ryan: Yes. Yes, I did.

Maria: Excellent, good. Oh, good, so then you're back together. That's good.

Ryan: No. Something got in our way.

Jack: Here you go.

Greenlee: Thanks. I thought of a bunch of ways to come between Kendall and Ryan. Some of them were brilliant.

Jack: Hmm. Even if you do say so yourself, huh?

Greenlee: But mostly they were pathetic. I programmed myself into believing that I was just watching out for Ryan, but who was I kidding? I didn't want them to get back together, and I wanted to hurt Kendall in a major way, and I succeeded.

Jack: At the trial?

Greenlee: Believe me, no one is more ashamed of me than me. All plots to come between Ryan and Kendall have been royally flushed. No more games, especially when it comes to love.

Jack: Well, I'm certainly glad to hear you've gotten beyond all that. But tell me, where does love enter into the picture? In other words, if Kendall was out of the picture, would Ryan be the man you love?

Greenlee: No. I mean, we're definitely connected, but it's all about friendship.

Jack: Are you sure about that?

Greenlee: As sure as I am that Ryan's in love with Kendall.

Kendall: Palmer, I am so deeply and utterly confused.

Palmer: Mm-hmm. And confusion by any other name is Ryan Lavery?

Kendall: Yeah. Who else?

Palmer: What has he done now?

Kendall: Nothing.

Palmer: Oh, come on now. Has he done something to hurt you again?

Maria: Oh, Ryan, what road bump could you and Kendall possibly have hit this time?

Ryan: Ugh. By the time I explain it all to you, Edmund will be in recovery.

Maria: Oh, no, I got time. Oh, yeah, I got plenty of time. And I saw you guys here around the hospital together.

Ryan: Well, we both went to bat for Bianca.

Maria: You seemed pretty tight.

Ryan: I wouldn't say "tight" exactly covers it.

Maria: Ok. What would you say covers it?

Ryan: Honestly?

Maria: Yeah.

Ryan: The woman drives me crazy.

Kendall: Ryan hasn't done anything to hurt me, Palmer.

Palmer: Oh, he must have done something or you wouldn't have called me. Now, please, you can trust me. You know that. Let me help you if I can.

Kendall: Ok, you want to know what the trouble is? Ryan is driving me out of my mind.

Maria: So Kendall drives you crazy as in good crazy? No? No. That would be no.

Ryan: Well, it's not just her, you know, because it's me, too. I mean, after everything that we had, after -- after everything that we lost -- wow. After all our bad -- our bad calls, our mess-ups, our wrong turns, I still love her. I still love Kendall, and I want her back in my life.

Kendall: My God, Palmer, I love Ryan so much. I want him back so bad, it's killing me.

Greenlee: Friendship works for Ryan and me.

Jack: What about Kendall and Ryan?

Greenlee: I hope they make it. And if Kendall is ok with Ryan and I being pals, then it's even better.

Jack: You think you and Kendall will be able to patch things up?

Greenlee: That's the plan -- mine, at least.

Jack: Well, I guess working together will be a good start to that, huh?

Greenlee: Well, anyone can be civil at the office. I just want this family thing to work, and Kendall's part of that.

Jack: I think it's great you're trying to bring everybody together. I do. But you know, a thing like this sometimes just can't be forced.

Greenlee: Blending into a family doesn't come naturally to me.

Jack: I know that, but I think you're starting to see that family's pretty great. Although I do think people need more. You know I want you to be happy, right? I think your happiness depends on finding love again. So let me ask you this -- if Kendall weren't in the picture, do you think Ryan would be the man who could make you happy?

Maria: Ok, so you seem to be clear that you love Kendall, and you're clear that you want her back in your life, so that's it. Make it happen.

Ryan: Oh, it's not that easy. Nothing about Kendall is ever that easy.

Maria: Yeah, but you love her despite that, or maybe because of that.

Ryan: Kendall and I aren't together because she makes me nuts. And it makes me nuts how much I want us to be together.

Maria: Oh. That -- that makes zero sense.

Ryan: Well, I don't know how to explain it any other way.

Maria: Try again.

Ryan: Kendall and I went bad, all right, not once but twice, and we could go bad again, and I mean -- I mean really bad. It all comes down to trust.

Kendall: I love Ryan and I really want to be with him, but I'm afraid I can't trust him.

Palmer: Well, that's understandable, given Ryan's penchant for harming you.

Kendall: Yeah, but maybe it wasn't Ryan. Maybe it was me. Maybe I brought all of this upon myself. Maybe I saw plots and conspiracies because it was easier than opening up my heart.

Palmer: Do you really believe that?

Kendall: I don't know. I don't know. But I do know that I've been shredded one too many times because of Ryan. If I go back to him and he hurts me again, it'll kill me.

Ryan: Kendall has ripped my heart out and stomped on it twice. There's no way in hell that I am going to go through that grief again.

[Music plays]

David: Have you located the bullet?

Dr. Marshall: We're almost there. There's excessive scar tissue. See? It's grown around the slug. We're between l3 and l4. That's lumbar nerve territory.

David: You'll have to proceed slowly.

Dr. Marshall: I know what I'm doing, Dr. Hayward. Forceps and retractor, please.

Marian: Stuart, darling, wait just one minute. I'll be right there. Darling, tell J.R. and Babe that Stuart and I are available to babysit anytime, ok?

Adam: All right, thank you.

Marian: Bye.

Adam: Bye-bye. Well, feel free to volunteer your babysitting services, Mary.

Mary: Very funny. Ok. So, tell me, when and how do you propose to send Babe packing?

Adam: I don't care to discuss my plans for Babe just now.

Mary: Don't tell me you've changed your mind, you're going to let the creature stay?

Adam: Drop it, Mary.

Mary: Oh -- don't tell me you've gone soft on me.

Adam: I don't do "soft."

Mary: Oh, really? You could've fooled me with Brooke the other day at the hospital. You were awfully soft with her.

Adam: You could've made your presence known.

Mary: Well, I was afraid to interrupt you. You were so tangled up with each other.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Well, Brooke and I have a very complicated history. Our marriage ended badly, but we are still quite viscerally connected in many, many ways.

Mary: And how just how deep does this visceral connection go?

Adam: I would like to spend some time alone with Babe and J.R., so why don't you run off to your studio and create something? Later on we can all sit around and try to guess what it is.

Mary: Oh

Babe: I could just watch Bess sleep for hours and hours.

Adam: All is well?

J.R.: Oh, yes, everything's perfect. Thank you again for that warm welcome home.

Adam: If you have the time, I'd like to discuss the terms of the trust I've set up for Bess.

Babe: Pops, that's really sweet of you, but I am so pooped, I almost crawled into the crib with Bess.

J.R.: Well, then don't worry about it. Dad and I can take care of the trust fund stuff. You relax.

Adam: Sure. We'll work in my study so we don't disturb you.

Babe: Ok.

J.R.: All right.

[Babe sighs]

Krystal: Babe? Where's Bess?

Babe: She's upstairs taking her power nap. Mama, you missed the best homecoming party ever, and then we took the most beautiful family portrait. But it's ok because Stuart and Marian -- they got a chance to get to know Bess, and they just love her to pieces. Oh, and so does Adam, and you won't even believe what he wrote in Bess' baby book. Hey, I love you, too. Mama, you ok?

Krystal: Yeah, yeah. Why shouldn't I be? My baby doll's got her dream come true, safe and snug at home. I love you both so much.

[Bess cries]

Babe: Oh -- sounds like somebody wants our attention.

Krystal: You better go up and see what she needs.

Babe: How about you come with and pay our little darling a visit?

Krystal: Yeah, I -- I'll call on the -- I'll call on the baby a little bit later. Right now there's something I got to do.

Babe: There's something more important than my Bess?

Krystal: I won't be long, I promise.

Babe: Ok. Oh, I love you so much, Mama. Ok. See you later.

Greenlee: If Kendall was out of the picture?

Jack: Yeah.

Greenlee: That doesn't mean Ryan would turn around and fall in love with me.

Jack: Yeah, but he fell in your direction, you'd be there to catch him, right?

Greenlee: Ryan gets me -- really gets me. There's no wasted time when we're together. Ok, I admit it, I'm a breath away from falling in love with him.

Jack: So, what are you going to do about that, kiddo?

Greenlee: Nothing.

Jack: No?

Greenlee: Not a damn thing. If Ryan and Kendall want to work this out, I hope they live happily ever after. I'm not going to stop them or get in their way.

Jack: That's my girl.

Kendall: Well, Greenlee swears up and down there's nothing going on between her and Ryan, but I don't believe her.

Palmer: Well, what does Ryan say about Greenlee?

Kendall: Zip. They took off on his bike and went God knows where together, and Ryan is strictly no comment.

Palmer: Mm-hmm. So you suspect an affair?

Kendall: Yeah, who wouldn't? I mean, if they didn't shake the sheets, why is Ryan being so tightlipped about it?

Palmer: Yes, well, Greenlee is still very much a part of your problem.

Kendall: Well, I could just ignore her, act like she doesn't exist, and go back to Ryan. But I'm afraid if I do that I'll be stripped again, the same way Greenlee stripped me in court. Only this time I'll be stripped straight down to my heart.

Ryan: I learned something on the road. I learned that there is such a thing as too much freedom. I mean, the motels and the towns and the diners -- I mean, it got to the point where I couldn't tell the difference between Kaweeney, Kansas, and Audubon, Iowa. Did I mention I was lonely?

Maria: Yeah, I know, I'm right there with you. I was there for five years.

Ryan: Well, then you understand that what I want is I want to throw down some roots. I want to build a home and I want to fill that home with a family, and I want Kendall to be my wife. But I have to know going in -- I have to know that she trusts me.

Maria: So you want a guarantee. Marriages don't work like that. Come on, you've got take a leap. You've got to -- you've got to trust that the love that you have for each other is going to get you through all the bad stuff.

Ryan: Love -- not enough. Not for me, not for Kendall.

Kendall: If I give my heart back to Ryan, I have to know that he'll keep it safe, that he won't betray me, that Ryan belongs to me, not Greenlee.

Palmer: Then do something to find out.

Kendall: Well, that's why I need your advice. I've already set something in motion, but I don't know if it's a good idea.

Palmer: Well, go on, go on. Sound me out.

Kendall: Ok. But you have to promise you'll keep this between us.

Palmer: Oh, absolutely, absolutely. Now tell me exactly what you've done.

[Knock on door]

Bianca: Yeah?

Jack: Where's my girl? There's my girl. Come here, you. Hi.

Bianca: I am so sorry, Uncle Jack.

Jack: No, no, no, stop, stop. You have absolutely nothing to apologize for.

Bianca: How can you say that? I took Babe's little girl.

Jack: Yeah, you did. And then you brought her back where she belongs. You did the right thing. That's all that matters. So, how you doing today?

Bianca: I've been answering questions and taking tests all morning. The hospital found me a psychiatrist.

Jack: Yeah, I know. I had a talk with her myself. So how do you like this Dr. Ellinson?

Bianca: She seems very nice.

Jack: Yeah, yeah, she's great. I've used her on a couple of cases. She's very well thought of.

Bianca: Well, she says what I mostly have to deal with is acceptance. I lost my baby, and I have to accept that and let go of the idea that she's still alive.

Palmer: Well, Kendall, I have to hand it to you. I wasn't half as enterprising at your age.

Kendall: Yeah, but do you think I've gone too far? I mean, maybe I should rein it in a little, huh?

Palmer: Uh -- well, I don't think I'm the one to advise you. Now, listen, given the stakes, I think this is your decision and yours absolutely alone.

Kendall: Yeah. I'm going to go for it. I am. I'm going to go for it. Let the fur fly. When it settles, I'll know if I can trust Ryan or not.

Ryan: I do want Kendall, but I have to be sure that if we do try again that we don't self-destruct.

Maria: Oh, I'm sorry, excuse me. Joe, how's it going? How's --

Joe: Smoothly, so far.

Maria: Ok, what does that mean?

Joe: I will keep you up to date, but I want you to try and stay calm, ok?

Dr. Marshall: Ok, here it is. Give me a Kelly. Pledgett and smaller suction tip. The bullet is right on the lamina. Ok, I have the clamp on it. And gently -- Hayward, you see this? Damn it all.

Joe: Tad. You all right?

Tad: I'm fine. Forget about me. How's Edmund?

Joe: He's holding his own. I'm glad we ran the DNA test on J.R.'s child because we had to eliminate the uncertainty.

Tad: Thank God for the wonders of modern medicine.

Joe: Yeah. I'm really sorry that we couldn't keep the test between us.

Tad: No, forget it. Don't worry about Krystal. She's ok. I mean, she may be upset, but at least she got the results she wanted.

Joe: Mm-hmm.

Tad: I can't blame her, either. After everything she's been through with J.R. and Babe and that baby, they deserve some happy time with Bess.

Joe: Yeah.

Babe: You need any help, honey?

J.R.: No, I got it.

Babe: Oh, everybody just loves our little baby Bess. Hey, J.R., have you seen her little stuffed woolly lamb anywhere?

J.R.: No, I haven't seen it. It's not here. We probably left it at the hospital.

[Krystal stands at the waterfall, holding the missing stuffed woolly lamb.]

Krystal: Oh, God. Oh, God, how could you do this? How could you take my precious grandbaby?

On the next "All My Children" --

Bobby: Have you forgiven Roberto?

Erica: Have you forgiven me?

Dr. Marshall: Your husband knew that this was a possibility.

Maria: This is not happening.

Krystal: I'm a mother, and we protect our own. That's what we do, no matter what.
