All My Children Transcript Friday 2/20/04
Proofread by Gisele
Jack: I thought you were going to stop Erica, Myrtle.
Myrtle: You know that's impossible when she's made up her mind.
Jack: Oh --
Judge: Will the witness please take the stand?
Palmer: What is going on?
Kendall: Erica -- are you sure?
Jack: Your Honor, if it please the court, I'd like to request a brief recess.
Judge: To the best of my recollection, Mr. Montgomery, you have nothing to do with these proceedings.
Jack: With all due respect, Your Honor, I do now. Erica Kane is my client, and I cannot in all good conscience allow her to take the stand without consulting with me.
[Music plays at The Pit]
Tad: Have you seen this woman?
Man: Hell, yeah. That's Erica Kane, the chick with the fancy makeup company.
Tad: You watch television. I'm shocked.
Man: Say what?
Tad: Nothing. I just need to know if you've seen her in here -- on August 28, to be exact.
Man: A classy broad like that in a place like this? Not hardly. We don't exactly travel in the same circles.
Krystal: All right, you hold it right there, buster. How many times do I have to tell you? You keep this up and I am going to kick your teeth in.
Michael: Well, what do you know? I will do what I want to you.
[Knock on door]
Maggie: You ok?
Bianca: Yeah. I'm fine. Have you seen Reggie walking around out there at all?
Maggie: No. Are you expecting him?
Bianca: Yeah, a while ago. He went to Kendall's trial, but just to make sure that Mom was doing ok.
Maggie: Oh, I thought your mother was staying far away from court. Even the thought of Michael stirs her.
Bianca: Well, yeah, it does. You've seen her.
Maggie: Ok, so, then, why go? She knows that Kendall didn't kill him.
Bianca: I know she does. And I think I may know why. Maggie, I'm afraid that the killer is --
Judge: Mr. Montgomery, I'll give you five minutes to get up to speed with your client.
Jack: Thank you, Your Honor.
Erica: That's not necessary, Your Honor. I'm ready to testify.
Jack: Erica, I strongly advise you not to do this.
Judge: Counselor, you heard your client. Please take your seat. Remember, Ms. Kane, you are still under oath.
Erica: I understand. I'm ready.
Judge: Well, in that case, your witness, Ms. Frye.
Livia: Ms. Kane, I understand that there are certain aspects of your testimony that you would like to clarify for this court.
Judge: Please speak up, Ms. Kane.
Erica: Yes, that is correct.
Livia: Apparently, you left out certain facts --
Alan: Objection. Ms. Kane was my witness.
Livia: Yes, but she is my witness now.
Alan: Understood. But, Your Honor, the defense can only ask this witness about elements of the case previously elicited by my direct questioning.
Livia: Your Honor, I believe that any testimony given to this court is relevant.
Alan: Oh, hardly. This is another grandstand play designed by Ms. Frye to confuse the jury.
Livia: I prefer the term "enlighten."
Alan: The defense has orchestrated a floorshow from the get-go. You can't reasonably allow such theatrics to cloud the case against Kendall Hart.
Judge: I will decide what is allowed in my courtroom, Mr. Singer.
Alan: A striptease? Questionable 11th-hour witnesses? Ministers who preach to aliens? What's next, a conspiracy theory?
Judge: All right, that's enough, Mr. Singer. Point taken. Proceed, Ms. Frye. But you're on a fine line, so tread carefully or I will shut you down. Understood, counselor? Ms. Kane?
Erica: I just want to tell what really happened.
Judge: That is all I ask. Proceed, Ms. Frye.
Livia: Ms. Kane, exactly what aspects of your previous testimony would you like to clarify?
Kendall: Jackson, I had no idea Erica was going to testify. You have to stop her.
Bianca: Bits and pieces of that night have been coming back to me.
Maggie: Ok, and these memories -- it just started happening?
Bianca: Well -- yes, when the trial started.
Maggie: Well, that's weird.
Bianca: Tell me about it. Everything is -- is so much clearer now, but I still can't see the woman's face.
Maggie: Ok, you're sure that this isn't a dream --
Bianca: No, I know what I saw. It was a woman with dark hair. She was wearing a black jacket, and she had the collar turned up, and I saw her go into Michael's condo. And then they really had it out. And then I heard a shot.
Lena: Hi. The car's right outside the entrance. I promised it'd only be a minute. You ready?
Bianca: Yeah, I just have to get a couple of things together.
Lena: Here, let me help you. You know, you really should be wearing your coat. It's very cold outside.
Bianca: Well, I will. I just have to take these to the nurses' station so that I can get officially released. I'll be right back.
Lena: Ok. What?
Maggie: Did you know that Bianca is remembering certain things the night that Michael was killed?
Lena: Really? No, no, I didn't know that.
Maggie: Real whodunit kind of stuff. Tall, dark, mysterious woman, dead of night, gunshot, you know?
Lena: No, I don't, actually. I've never been much of a mystery fan.
Maggie: Really? Even if you're the star of the show? Even if you're the woman that she saw, the one who shot Michael Cambias?
Lena: I didn't shoot Michael Cambias. What -- where is this coming from?
Maggie: Ok, just -- just go with me on this just for a sec. Say you did shoot the rat, ok? Are you actually going to let Kendall take the rap for it, or Erica, or maybe find someone else who's really convenient?
Lena: I would never let somebody else take the blame for something I did.
Maggie: Sure you would because now this means that you can be free at last with Bianca. I mean, from what I've heard, being in the slammer could take a real toll on a relationship.
Lena: Listen to me, Maggie. I told you and I told everybody else -- I wanted Michael dead. I poisoned his medicine, but I didn't kill him, ok?
Maggie: Ok. But if I find out that you are the one who killed him and you're letting someone else take the rap, I wouldn't be so worried about the cops. I would worry about me.
Krystal: Of all the lowdown, backstabbing things you could come up with --
Tad: Why don't you take it down a notch? Why are you upset with me?
Krystal: Why are you passing around a picture of my little girl to these bums? Still coming up with ways to trash --
Tad: That look like your little girl to you?
Krystal: Open mouth, insert foot.
Tad: Yeah, I guess so.
Krystal: Well, what -- what's this -- what's this all about? I mean, why are you passing around a picture of America's sweetheart?
Tad: Suppose that's my business. I guess you don't know everything about everything, do you?
Krystal: Well, maybe not. But I'm a pretty good guesser. It has something to do with her daughter's murder trial, doesn't it?
Tad: Just say it's a situation of life and death and we'll leave it at that.
Erica: I didn't tell you everything I knew when I was on the witness stand before.
Livia: But now you're prepared to do so?
Erica: Yes. I want to make this right.
Alan: Objection. Your Honor, the witness gets a second chance? This is highly irregular.
Judge: I'll allow it, but be careful, Ms. Frye.
Livia: Ms. Kane, what part did you leave out of your previous testimony?
Erica: The truth.
Bianca: All right. Signed, sealed, and -- wow. What happened in here, a nuclear explosion?
Lena: We were just having a discussion.
Bianca: Really? Somebody want to fill me in?
Maggie: Real boring. Does anyone want to just blow this pop stand?
Bianca: Yes, and not a moment too soon.
Lena: Ok. So, you got everything?
Bianca: Everything except a call from Reggie. Did you hear anything?
Maggie: No. Hey, what's that?
Bianca: Um -- just instructions for my release.
Bianca: No biggie.
Maggie: The caring and feeding of miss Montgomery -- very big biggie. Oh, look at this -- no exertion.
Lena: Oh, well, I'll be taking this, then.
Maggie: Oh, here's another biggie -- no stress. Well, I guess that means that you're going straight home.
Bianca: I have to make a stop first.
Maggie: And I hope it involves cheeseburgers.
Bianca: I have to go to the courthouse.
Maggie: Uh-uh, no way. Your mother can take care of herself.
Bianca: Maggie, my mother told Kendall that she wouldn't let her be convicted. It will be far more stressful if I don't know what she meant by that.
Lena: We'll find out soon enough. We'll just take you home and we'll wait for the confirmation.
Bianca: Thank you, but I will grab a cab. I'll see you later.
Maggie: Will you hold on?
Bianca: I can't, Maggie. My mother is at the courthouse. I need to know how she is.
Livia: Ms. Kane, you told the court that you went to Michael Cambias' condo on the evening of August 28 with Dr. Hayward. Is that true?
Livia: And you went there with the intention of aiding and abetting Dr. Hayward and his plan to chemically render Michael Cambias impotent. Is that true?
Livia: Dr. Hayward testified that he knocked Michael Cambias unconscious and then you both left together. Is that true?
Erica: No, that is not true.
David: Erica, no.
Reggie: Yo, J, what's she doing?
Livia: Would you please tell the court what did happen.
Erica: When Michael Cambias was knocked unconscious, I grabbed his gun off a table.
Livia: What happened then?
Erica: I told David to move, to get out of the way so I could kill Michael Cambias.
Jack: Oh, my God.
Myrtle: Oh, good Lord.
Opal: Shut up, girlfriend. Just shut up.
Judge: Overruled. Ms. Kane, are you aware that you've moved into the area of self-incrimination? Would you like to confer with your attorney at this time?
Erica: No. No, I have to do this. Michael Cambias hurt my child. He ripped away her innocence. I couldn't let him get away with that.
Alan: Objection, Your Honor. This is completely prejudicial.
Livia: If the truth is prejudicial, so be it.
Alan: Your Honor, this is a travesty. It's a stunt by the defense to manipulate the jury.
Livia: The witness came forward of her own volition to set the record straight. She does have that right.
Judge: She has been advised of her rights. All right. I'll allow this, but please proceed carefully, counselor, for everyone's sake.
Livia: Ms. Kane, did you then shoot Michael Cambias with his own gun?
Erica: No, I did not.
Livia: Why not?
Erica: David -- Dr. Hayward wouldn't let me.
Livia: What happened then?
Erica: I ran out of the condo.
Livia: With or without the gun?
Erica: I took the gun with me.
Livia: Where did you go?
Erica: I'm not sure.
Livia: Can you clarify for the court?
Erica: I -- I lost time. I'm not exactly sure what I did then.
Alan: Oh, Your Honor, please. This the whole truth? The witness makes it up as she goes along. This isn't a lounge act, it's a court of law. There are rules, even for a celebrity like Ms. Kane.
Judge: Counselor, the rules are being followed -- barely. Ms. Kane, you must only tell the court what you know to be true as fact -- no conjecture, no guessing. Do you understand?
Erica: I have very clear images of what happened that night.
Judge: Ms. Frye, continue.
Livia: Ms. Kane, you say you lost track of time. Please tell the court what you remember exactly.
Erica: Later that night -- I'm not sure when exactly -- I returned to Michael Cambias' condo -- alone. I waited outside, hidden. It could have been minutes. It could have been hours. I'm not sure. I remember my hand -- I remember that my hand was cramped, my fingers were cramped from holding the gun for so long. And finally Michael Cambias' door opened and he came out. I froze. But when he started coming towards me --
Erica: I raised the gun, I pointed it at him, and I fired.
Erica: Kendall Hart did not murder Michael Cambias. I did. I killed Michael Cambias.
Jack: No, God --
Kendall: Please don't do this --
Reggie: J, you got to stop it.
[Judge pounds gavel]
Judge: Order in this court.
Alan: Objection, Your Honor. The defendant's mother is obviously trying to bring about a mistrial, and Ms. Frye put her up to it.
Livia: I -- I had no idea what Ms. Kane was going to say.
Alan: Of course you did.
Livia: I did not, but I agree with you that there should definitely be a mistrial so that the police can reopen the investigation.
Judge: All right. Counsel, I will hear arguments in my chambers in one hour. Ms. Kane, you may step down. This court is in recess. Hopefully, that will restore some semblance of order to these proceedings. When we reconvene, I will rule on whether or not this trial will continue.
Bailiff: All rise.
Jack: Erica -- I want you to come with me right now.
Erica: Jackson --
Jack: No, no, no, no, no. Don't talk here, don't talk here. Don't say a word here, not another word. Come on. Please. Come on, sweetheart.
Krystal: All right, look, I know she's not lost, all right, so what gives?
Tad: Not that much, apparently.
Krystal: Huh. Her daughter's on trial for murder. I'd say that's a heck of a lot if you ask me. You think she's involved. Hey, listen, I mean, if some guy did to my daughter what that Cambias guy did to Bianca, please, I'd turn him into roadkill real quick.
Tad: Then by all means, remind me never to end up on your bad side.
Krystal: You're trying to find her an alibi, aren't you? All this work, coming against all these no-neck dismals. Come on, Tad, what's in it for you?
Tad: She's a friend.
Krystal: Uh-huh. Yeah, exactly what I thought.
Tad: Really? Before or after you decided I was slumming for dirt on your daughter?
Krystal: You know, Tad, you're a pretty loyal, standup kind of guy. I just wish you were on Babe's team instead of -- what am I thinking? Most guys aren't going to help out a girl unless they think they're going to get lucky. Fine. Be a jerk, see what I care. Tequila shooter, hold the worm. I've had my fill of those.
Reporter: Ms. Kane, is it true? Ms. Kane, is it true? Ms. Kane --
Jack: Erica, talk to me. What the hell just happened out there?
Erica: You heard me. I told the truth.
Jack: The hell you did. You killed Michael Cambias? Hey, you may as well have just handed them a lighted match.
Erica: I don't understand.
Jack: Well, obviously you want to go down in flames.
Erica: Oh, that's ridiculous.
Jack: Is it? I found your last will and testament on your desk.
Erica: Oh, that.
Jack: "Oh, that." I mean, I knew it was a sign, but I thought maybe you had planned to jump out of a window or throw yourself in front of a bus. I never expected in a million years that you would confess to murdering Michael Cambias. But, then, hey, you always did like a big exit, didn't you?
Erica: I had to save Kendall.
Jack: At what cost, Erica?
Erica: I'm guilty, Jack.
Jack: No, the only thing you're guilty of is being self-destructive.
Erica: I'm not.
Jack: Oh, I should've seen it coming. I should've known.
Erica: I hate it when you look at me like that.
Jack: Ever since Bianca told you that she was still pregnant, you have been so cool, so calm, so collected, so business as usual. And I have just been waiting and wondering when the dam would burst, when all the pain and anger and shame would come pouring out.
Erica: Oh, don't be so melodramatic. Bianca's pregnancy had nothing to do with what I did to Michael at his condo that night.
Jack: Oh, yeah, but it had everything to do with the stunt you just pulled on the witness stand, now, didn't it?
Erica: I did not pull a stunt.
Jack: Well, then, why did you do it, huh? Why? Did you think it would help you forget about the baby, about what it means for Bianca to be carrying the child of her rapist? Like you did?
Erica: You stop it now. Stop it.
Jack: Look, if that was it, I would understand. I would understand you trying to protect your daughter. Is that why you lied, Erica?
Erica: I didn't lie!
Jack: So you expect me to believe that you killed Michael Cambias?
Erica: Believe what you want. It won't change the facts.
Jack: Facts you're not so sure about yourself.
Erica: Some things are hazy. Shooting Michael is not.
Jack: All of a sudden, it's just clear, just like that?
Erica: I have been remembering things. I asked Tad to conduct an investigation.
Jack: You couldn't come to me?
Erica: Tad found a woman who saw someone fitting my description go to Michael Cambias' condo and kill him.
Jack: Honey, listen to me. Fitting your description is miles away from a positive identification.
Erica: Tad scoured the city looking for any witness. He didn't find one single witness who saw me anywhere else. And you know I wasn't home.
Jack: That doesn't mean you did it.
Erica: I did it, Jackson. I remember exactly how I felt making sure that that animal got everything that he deserved. It was as if my whole life came down to that one action, ridding the universe of this -- this horrible man. My hand didn't even tremble. I saw Michael Cambias come out of his condo. He came toward me, and I aimed right at him, and I pulled the trigger.
Adam: You didn't kill Cambias, Erica.
Erica: Adam, I had the gun. You took it from me. You told me that yourself.
Adam: There's more that I haven't told you.
Jack: Well, don't stop talking now, Adam.
Adam: You did shoot someone that night, but it wasn't Cambias. You shot me.
Tad: I'm telling you, I'm a private investigator and a personal friend. All I need to know is exactly where she was and when.
Man: Can't help you.
Tad: Are you sure?
Man: I'm positive.
Tad: That's really funny because I've been asking the same question all over town for the last couple of days and this is the first time I get the feeling I'm talking to the right person.
Man: I don't know nothing, all right?
Tad: What if I say you do?
Man: You calling me a liar?
Tad: Something like that. You want me to slow it down --
Krystal: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Big stick. I like that in a man. How about you and I go mix it up on the dance floor?
Man: You want to dance?
Krystal: Smart thing. Here, hold this. I'll lead, come on. You know, I -- I don't blame you for not giving it up.
Krystal: Oh, whatever 411 that guy was trying to crank out of you. I'd do the same thing if I was trying to protect a friend.
Kendall: Erica has no idea what she's done.
Aidan: Well, she's standing up for you. That's what she's doing.
Kendall: No, no, she's made it a million times worse, Aidan. Erica was never supposed to confess.
Aidan: Well --
Kendall: There has to be a way out of this.
Aidan: Whatever you do, don't do anything radical, ok? You just stay calm. Don't act without thinking. Otherwise, one of you is going to end up on death row.
Kendall: Hey, I'll be as careful as I can be. Ok. Do you like train wrecks? Is that why you're here?
Ryan: Where would you like me to be?
Kendall: Shouldn't you be with Greenlee, all cozy, rewarding her for her job well done?
Ryan: Must be hell living in that head of yours, huh?
Kendall: Beats the company you keep.
Ryan: You don't have a clue what makes me do what I do, Kendall.
Kendall: Ego, greed, selfishness? Did I miss anything?
Ryan: Yeah, you did. I care about your mom, I care about your sister, and I care about you.
Jack: Wait a minute. Wait a minute, Adam. You -- you expect me to believe that Erica shot you?
Adam: It happens to be true, Jack.
Palmer: He's right -- for once.
Erica: What do you know about it, Palmer?
Palmer: Your aim could have been a little bit better. You barely winged the old coot.
Reggie: Erica, you shot him?
Adam: Do you want me to keep repeating this?
Jack: No, no, no. All I want is the truth. I want to know what Erica did and when she did it. Anybody want to take a crack at it?
Erica: I told you. I'm not making it up. I shot Michael.
Jack: And we've established that your memories of that night are not exactly rock-solid, sweetheart. Gentlemen?
Palmer: It's all his fault.
Adam: You're the one who started it.
Jack: Oh, will you please just tell me what happened!
Adam: I had a gun. We were outside the condo.
Adam: Cambias? Cambias! He's not home.
Palmer: Why would he leave the place unlocked?
Adam: I don't know. He told us to meet him here. Why the hell would he run off? No, no, this isn't a time for cocktails.
Palmer: My nerves, my nerves!
Adam: No, it can wait till we take care of business. Now, you don't touch. Come on!
Adam: Erica, dear God --
Erica: Stay away from me.
Adam: Give me the gun, Erica.
Erica: Why don't you die?
Adam: It's me, Adam. I want to help you. Give me the gun. I picked up the gun. I saw Michael's initials on it.
Palmer: There was only one thing to do.
Adam: I kept the gun.
Palmer: I took the bullet out of Adam's shoulder.
Adam: The damn butcher enjoyed every minute of it.
Palmer: And then we concocted this story that I shot Adam. That was to protect you, Erica.
Erica: I'm sure that I saw Michael.
Adam: Sorry, Erica. It was me.
Palmer: And he's got the scar to show it. Come on, show them.
Jack: No, no, no, no, no, no. No, there's no reason to do that. Just tell me what time this all took place.
Adam: Around 2:30 in the morning.
Jack: You're sure about that?
Adam: Yes, I'm sure. Longest night of my life.
Jack: Because Kendall here testified that she heard a shot about midnight, isn't that right?
Kendall: Uh -- yeah, a little after.
Erica: Well, I left David at the condo just before 11:30. I must have gone right back. I must have gone back and then fired the shot that you heard.
Kendall: No, you don't know that for sure.
Jack: Whoa, hang on, hang on. Erica -- Erica, listen to me. You know what happened. You were in a blackout. You -- you took Adam for Michael.
Erica: I am not completely clear about everything, but I know how I felt and I know what I did. And no matter what else may have happened that night, I am certain that I shot Michael Cambias.
Bianca: Could I have a moment alone with my mother?
Kendall: I'm not leaving.
Jack: You know, I think maybe we should all do this together.
Reggie: Jackson's right. We're all involved.
Bianca: Please, Uncle Jack?
Jack: All right. We'll be outside. Adam, Palmer. Reggie, let's go.
Reggie: Jack, this is family --
Jack: Let's just do this Bianca's way, ok? Come on.
Reporter: Mr. Montgomery, do you have a statement?
Jack: I have absolutely nothing to say.
Erica: Honey, you shouldn't be here. You were just released from the hospital.
Bianca: I feel fine, Mom. I really do.
Erica: But you won't continue to feel fine if you keep this up. Really, honey, you should be home. You should be home in bed.
Kendall: Erica's right. You need to relax. You need to destress.
Bianca: You two are fighting for your lives, and I'm supposed to go home and lie down? Reggie was right. This is family stuff. We're a family. You and me and Kendall, Mom -- we're the Kane family. I love you both, and there's no way that I'm leaving now.
Erica: But it's done, honey. Everything is taken care of.
Kendall: No, Erica, you need to -- you need to recant that confession. You can't do this to protect me. I won't let you.
Erica: You can't stop me.
Bianca: Mom, is this because of the promise you made me? I made you swear that you wouldn't let Kendall be convicted for something you did. Oh, God, Mom, did I ruin your life to save Kendall?
Erica: I confessed because it was the right thing to do. It had nothing to do with you.
Kendall: You know, Erica, it's not too late. Jack can still fix this.
Erica: Kendall, be quiet. I did it. I killed that bastard, and I would do it again. I will take the consequences.
Bianca: I didn't want it to be you. I didn't want you to be guilty, Mom.
Kendall: No, Bianca. Erica's not guilty.
Krystal: So, I figured that bronco was doing something he shouldn't with somebody he shouldn't the night that he saw Erica, and I hit pay dirt.
Tad: That's why he wouldn't tell me anything?
Krystal: Well, that and, frankly, you're not his type.
Tad: What did he say?
Krystal: Honey, I just primed the pump. The rest is up to you.
Tad: You can really turn a phrase. Anybody ever tell you that?
Tad: I owe you an apology. Why don't we try this again?
Reggie: Jack, this sucks. What are we going to do now?
Jack: Well, if I had the answer to that, I could also leap over tall buildings in a single bound.
Reggie: Jack, Erica cannot go down for this.
Jack: Reggie, she confessed. She confessed.
Reggie: But she didn't do it.
Jack: And you know that because?
Reggie: She didn't do it. That's all. You got to stop this, man. It's not fair.
Jack: You know something I don't. Reggie, what aren't you telling me?
Opal: Oh, Myrt. Myrt, I don't know. Call me a fool, but I am not going to stand by while my best friend gets hauled off in cuffs.
Myrtle: Opal, it's easy to interfere and it's harder to let the Lord go about doing his own plans. But I'll tell you something -- honey, from now on, that's what I'm going to do.
Erica: I am guilty.
Kendall: Mother, please stop saying that. Please.
Erica: Kendall, you will have to accept this.
Kendall: No, I can't and I won't, because you didn't do it.
Bianca: Kendall, how do you know that?
Kendall: Because Erica's story makes no sense. That's how I know. If you shot Michael out in the courtyard, then how did the blood splatter end up inside the condo?
Erica: Obviously, I shot him inside the condo around midnight and then I came back to finish the job.
Kendall: No. If you'd shot him the first time, you didn't need to come back. You wouldn't have come back.
Erica: I blacked out for a while. Maybe I forgot the first attempt. Maybe I came back to -- to make sure that he was dead.
Kendall: No, this story gets crazier by the minute.
Erica: I know that I pulled the trigger, and I killed Michael.
Kendall: Just like you know that you -- you attacked him with the scissors, only it was me.
Erica: Stop it. Just stop badgering me.
Bianca: Mom, she's not badgering you. She's trying to help you, and I'm trying to as well. Look, we can go in there, we can tell the Judge that you've been under incredible stress and that you imagined the whole thing.
Kendall: Yes, Erica, I'm this close to getting a mistrial. I'm this close. And if that happens, then we're all off the hook. So please, please don't say anything. Don't -- don't volunteer any information, please.
Erica: I'm going to plead guilty.
Kendall: Oh, God, please don't do that.
Bianca: Mom --
Kendall: Don't do that.
Bianca: Don't you understand? You could go to prison for the rest of your life!
Erica: I'm going to put an end to this right now for all of us.
Erica: Kendall, get out of my way. Get out of my way. The real killer is going to confess to her crime, she's going to accept her punishment and put an end to all of this.
Kendall: No, no. The real killer has no intention of confessing -- not now, not ever.
Erica: Kendall, what are you talking about?
Kendall: I thought you knew me, Mother, all the way down to my nasty little soul. But even I'm not nasty enough to let you do this.
Bianca: Kendall, what are you doing?
Kendall: I thought I pulled it off, but I guess I didn't. You two never guessed. That's -- that's for sure.
Erica: Kendall, whatever game you're playing, you stop it now.
Kendall: No, this is not a game. Mother, this is not a game. This is the truth. This is the truth, finally. I did it. I murdered Michael.
Tad: Let's try this one more time. Can you help me, yes or no?
Man: Come to think of it, I did see Ms. Kane that night.
Tad: Here in the bar?
Man: Oh, no, not around this dive. Somewhere else.
Kendall: I've been lying to everybody and anybody for months, but -- but I'm not lying now. I killed Michael.
Bianca: Kendall, stop it. You couldn't have done it.
Kendall: Well, who else could've pulled this off? I mean, I'm -- I'm the completely, totally untrustworthy, self-serving bitch extraordinaire.
Erica: You didn't kill anybody.
Kendall: Of course I did. And yes, yes, I said I heard a shot and I came running. I -- I figured the best way to get off would be to pretend that I was protecting somebody.
Erica: And you were. You were protecting me.
Kendall: I was protecting myself. I shot Michael, and I had you and everyone else fooled.
Erica: Kendall, stop. You don't have to cover for me anymore.
Kendall: You're guilty of plenty, Erica, but not this. I shot Michael through the heart and I used Jack's gun to do it.
Bianca: This is wrong. This is all wrong.
Kendall: Actually, this is a hell of a joke. I mean, the police, the prosecution, they were right all along. They just -- they just couldn't prove it.
Bianca: But I can remember it, and the woman I saw wasn't you.
Kendall: No, Bianca, don't worry about me. I'm going to get away with this.
Erica: I am not going to let you sacrifice yourself.
Kendall: Believe me, I don't intend to. Livia's getting me a mistrial as we speak.
Erica: And if you don't get a mistrial, you'll get death.
Bianca: I have to find it. I can save you both.
Kendall: No, no, Bianca -- no, don't -- don't worry about the two of us. Please don't worry about the two of us. Thanks to Mom's little fugue state, we're going to beat this home-free.
Erica: And the fugue state is my defense. I will plead diminished capacity.
Kendall: No, you won't plead anything.
Erica: Kendall, you've got to stop this now. I know what I'm doing. I know what I did. I was there. I was at his condo. I was in the courtyard. I was hiding in the bushes. I had Michael's gun.
Michael: Well, what do you know.
Michael: What are you going to do about it?
Michael: Leave Pine Valley or what? Oh, that's reason to celebrate. I will do what I want to you.
Erica: What more can I say, Kendall? How can I convince you? I did it.
Bianca: No. It wasn't you. It was me.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Jack: I'm going to make up for all those birthdays that I missed, starting with this one.
Erica: Please don't let us be a house divided by lies and secrets. As much as we want to protect each other, now is the time for the truth to come out.
