Tad: Cambias, what the hell are you up to?
Juan Pablo: Tad?
Juan Pablo: I've been looking for you.
Tad: Well, I hate to disappoint you, but I don't duel on an empty stomach.
Juan Pablo: Neither do I. May I have a moment?
Tad: I'm not picking up the tab.
Juan Pablo: It will be my pleasure to pay the bill and for your services as an investigator.
Tad: You're kidding. Why? I mean, you and I aren't exactly, you know, compadres.
Juan Pablo: You think I'm angry because you told the women of Fusion my secret?
Tad: For starters.
Juan Pablo: Uh-uh. You only did that because you worry about them, and now I'm worried, too.
Tad: Why? Has something happened?
Juan Pablo: I think someone may be after Greenlee.
Erica's voice: Greenlee --
Greenlee: I object to you, Erica, in so many ways. I certainly object to this wedding and you marrying my father. I object to this man being my father. I object to the whole damn thing.
Rev. Ritter's voice: Into this holy union, Erica Kane and Jackson Montgomery are to be joined. If any of you can show just cause why they may not be lawfully wed, speak now or forever hold your peace. And now the bride --
Greenlee: Hold on! I've got something to say. Ahem.
Erica: This room is reserved for a private function.
Greenlee: I'm aware of that.
Erica: Who on earth would be insane enough to invite both you and me to the same function?
Ryan: Jackson Montgomery. Lieutenant Frye. Kendall Hart.
Derek: Thank you.
Jack: So, what do you got there, the autopsy report on Cambias?
Derek: Just the preliminary.
Jack: Well, that's good enough for me.
Derek: Well, Jack, I'd rather wait until the findings are complete.
Jack: Gee, I was thinking now would be a good time --
[Reporters shouting questions]
Jack: What the hell is this?
Justin: Nice getup.
Jack: Kendall -- Kendall, excuse me. What are you doing here?
Kendall: I want answers, Jack. Michael was cut down in his prime. It's your job to find his killer and punish him.
Justin: Or her.
Derek: Kendall, we're doing what we're doing.
Kendall: Well, you better because if you can't do your job, I'll find the killer myself.
Reporter: Mrs. Cambias, over here, please? Thank you.
Adam: Oh, there's my girl! Hey, you are scrumptious. I didn't know I was going to see you today.
Liza: Well, Stuart and Marian invited her to make leaf collages, right?
Adam: Oh, well, I am honored that you came to see me, too.
Colby: I see you all the time, Daddy. I came to see J.R. Is he here?
Adam: No, sweetheart. J.R.'s still away, remember?
Colby: But he said he'd be back soon.
Adam: You spoke to him?
Liza: J.R. phoned a few times, especially recently. Colby, why don't you go find Winifred, and she'll take you to the cottage.
Colby: Ok, Mommy. I love you, Daddy.
Adam: I love you, sweetheart.
Liza: So, you didn't know that J.R. was coming home? When was the last time you talked to him?
Adam: I haven't been here much.
Liza: You haven't talked to him at all, have you?
Adam: Not since the night before he took off, no.
Liza: I'm sorry.
Adam: Well, actually, he did -- I understand he called a few days ago. It's -- I wasn't here. He didn't leave a message.
Liza: What counts is that J.R. is coming home, and you'll both get a second chance.
Adam: Second? How about 15th?
Liza: I can see you're as desperate as you've always been.
Adam: Will you help me?
Adam: I know it's a lot to ask of an ex-wife, but with your help, maybe I can avoid some of the mistakes that drove him away in the first place.
Liza: Adam, I was never able to help you before. What makes you think I can help you now?
Adam: Liza, please. Please, I just -- I need to be the father that J.R. needs. And I can do that -- I know I can -- if you'll just help me.
Liza: I don't know.
Adam: If you don't want to do it for me, do it for J.R., and what about Colby? I don't want to drive another child away.
Liza: Since I know it's so important to you --
Adam: You'll do it?
Liza: Yeah, but it would be nice if you listened to me.
Adam: Absolutely, every word.
Adam: Dot your I's, cross your T's.
Liza: Well, you better.
Mary: Adam, we're going to need some new sheets -- oh, sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt.
Liza: Maybe you should cross your own T's. You're on your own.
Tad: You're going to have to forgive me for being more than a little suspicious. I've caused you a lot of grief in any language, by outing you and Carlos as brothers. Seriously, why would you bring something like this to me?
Juan Pablo: Well, you uncovered a secret that's been hidden for many years. And because you were discreet, Carlos' true identity remains known to only a few of us.
Tad: Thank God for that. How is he?
Juan Pablo: He's safe, and I intend to keep him that way. So, will you take the case?
Tad: I don't know. I need some more information. Like, for instance, is Greenlee in some kind of physical danger?
Juan Pablo: All I know is that she believes someone from her past is following her.
Tad: A stalker?
Juan Pablo: She says he's some sort of con man. He watches her, but when she tries to confront him, he flees. He even asked me about her but denied knowing her.
Tad: Well, sounds like something's going on.
Juan Pablo: That's why I want you to find out what this man wants.
Tad: If Greenlee knows who it is, I'm going to need some kind of a name.
Juan Pablo: Not a problem. His name is Ryan Lavery.
Ryan: 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 -- 28 million, 29 million, 30 million, 31 million, 32 million, 33 million, 34 --
Greenlee: Well, whoever is behind this is insane -- or he's got a weird sense of humor.
Erica: What do you know about this?
Greenlee: You think I'm a part of it?
Erica: I think that it's weird enough that it has your fingerprints on it, could be. Or Kendall's.
Greenlee: You're afraid Kendall's going to pull something?
Erica: Oh, I'd say Kendall's done enough already.
Greenlee: Now, there's a woman with a sense of humor -- marrying Michael Cambias, booting you out of Enchantment.
Erica: Well, you're in no position to be a fan of Kendall's.
Greenlee: A lot you know. I haven't been here since the big day. How about you? You know how I said I was sorry about crashing your wedding?
Erica: Oh, was that an apology? Because if it was, I certainly don't want to hear one more phony word.
Greenlee: Good. Because I changed my mind. I'm sorry I hurt Jack, but I have zero sympathy for you. Anyone who treats their daughter as dismally as you treat Kendall doesn't deserve a shred of happiness.
Erica: Kendall's hardly a victim. Kendall married Michael Cambias, her sister's rapist --
Greenlee: Dead rapist.
Erica: Kendall devastated Bianca by doing that, and so, yes, she has pretty much destroyed any relationship that we were trying to build.
Greenlee: Well, whatever Kendall has done to you, she's never lost faith in you. She's always defended you. She stood by you, even when you didn't deserve it. But when she needed some understanding, a whiff of compassion from you, you slapped her in the face and cut her loose again.
Erica: You just don't know what you're talking about.
Greenlee: You know, Kendall may not be perfect, but with a mother like you, how can anyone blame her?
Kendall: I won't let you ignore Michael's murder.
Jack: Well, your concern for your deceased husband is very touching, indeed. But what I suggest you do, Kendall, is go home and let the police handle this.
Derek: Unless you want to stay and answer some questions in private.
Kendall: U know, if you want to waste your time by harassing me instead of finding the real killer, then you leave me with no choice. I am offering a $10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of my husband's murderer.
Reporter: $10 million?
Justin: You realize if you just turn yourself in, you could pay yourself the 10 mill?
Kendall: There will be an added bonus if the killer is convicted.
Reporter: How much of a bonus?
Jack: You know what? Offering money is a really bad idea, Kendall.
Reporter: Why are you against a reward to find the killer?
Second Reporter: Don't you want to find Cambias' murderer?
Jack: I'm the D.A., of course I do.
Reporter: Then why do you object to the reward?
Jack: Because a $10 million bounty -- which is what this amounts to -- is going to bring every crackpot in the world out of the woodwork. We're going to have 500 false leads a day. We'll have to follow up on all of them. It's going to -- it's going to make this investigation very difficult. It's just not smart, Kendall.
Derek: Unless you want this investigation snarled into knots, Mrs. Cambias.
Reporter: Any comments, Mrs. Cambias?
Kendall: No, no, I'm sorry, not at this time. If you'll excuse me, I -- Michael and I were barely married, and now he's gone. All I want is justice, whether the authorities will help me or not.
Reporter: So the reward stands?
Reporter: Thanks. We'll get this on the front page.
Justin: That's real smooth. Do you expect us to fall for that?
Kendall: I really don't give a damn what you do. If you'll excuse me.
Derek: Kendall, while you're here, maybe you can help us, in the interest of finding that justice you say you want.
Kendall: I don't see how I can help.
Derek: You mentioned your husband called you and told you to buy that meatpacking plant?
Kendall: That's right.
Derek: Well, we checked his cell phone records and guess what -- no calls were made from that cell phone to Pine Valley in days.
Derek: Can you explain Michael's call?
Justin: Or noncall?
Kendall: I would be more than happy to explain anything and answer any questions you'd like, but unfortunately, I'll need my lawyer present.
Justin: Oh, now you want to play by the rules?
Kendall: Please, just call my lawyer and we'll schedule an appointment.
Jack: Kendall, please. You might want to reconsider this. It would be in your best interest if you just gave your statement now, believe me.
Kendall: I'll speak to you with my attorney and only with my attorney. Have a lovely day, boys.
Derek: What was that?
Justin: Pine valley's very own black widow?
Jack: Look, let's not get sidetracked here. Let's see what we've got, which is the autopsy report.
Derek: Just remember, it's not conclusive.
Jack: Yeah, just give it here.
Justin: Jack, come on.
Jack: Justin, I appreciate your zeal. Just don't forget who calls the shots around here, ok?
Justin: You can't try this case.
Jack: I'm perfectly capable of trying this case.
Justin: If you try it, it will reek of conflict of interest, corruption. People are going to start talking --
Jack: Hold your voice down.
Justin: Look, I know how much this means to you, ok, that's why you got to let me handle it.
Jack: No, you will handle what I tell you to handle.
Justin: Jack, please don't --
Jack: And if you keep talking, what you're going to be handling is filing parking tickets. You got me, son?
Justin: All right, fine. Have it your way, Jack.
Justin: You know, being close to critical parties -- it sure as hell didn't help the last Cambias case you tried.
Jack: It pays to buy the best.
Derek: Ahem. He's got a point, Jack. If you head up this case, there are going to be endless questions.
Jack: Yes, and I'll be ready for them, Derek, all right?
Derek: Some of which may come really soon. The Alexander Cambias invitation, remember?
Jack: Yeah, I thought it was a little odd that Kendall didn't even mention that.
Derek: What do you make of that?
Jack: Kendall didn't do the inviting.
Derek: Well, let's go. If we're lucky, maybe, as they say, more will be revealed.
Adam: This is not a good time, Mary.
Liza: Oh, no, Mary, I would love to be re-educated on Adam's sheets. Does he still prefer linen?
Mary: Oh, it's just that my skin is extra sensitive, and I'm used to a higher thread count.
Adam: Winifred is in charge of the bedding. Why don't you speak with her.
Mary: Yes, of course. Silly me. I'll be in my room if you need me.
Liza: Hmm. Anything you'd like to tell me?
Adam: No, there's nothing I would like to tell you. No, nothing. She's a short-term guest, and she's camping out in the west wing.
Liza: Hmm. Until she slithers into your sleeping bag.
Adam: Oh, Liza.
Liza: Ok, you know what? Adam, a piece of advice -- if you want J.R. to come home, make sure that Mary Smythe is not in this house if you want him to stay here.
Adam: All right, when -- and if -- J.R. arrives, I will do exactly that. You satisfied?
Liza: I am. But, look, I've run out of time. I'm due at the Valley Inn.
Adam: Yeah, so am I. Did you get one of these?
Liza: Yeah. All of us at Fusion got them. We didn't understand it because we didn't know Alexander Cambias. What's your excuse?
Adam: Not a clue. We used to bang heads over business, that's all.
Liza: Well, I guess we'll find out in due time. Oh, by the way, how was that trip to Canada?
Adam: Oh, relaxing.
Liza: Did you get the fish you wanted?
Adam: What is that supposed to mean?
Liza: Oh, one of Tad's sources said that a man that matched your description, looking remarkably like you got on Palmer Cortlandt's jet coming back from Canada, but we all knew that you were in the wilds of Canada in hip waders.
Adam: Me, on Palmer Cortlandt's jet? Now, did this source of Tad's -- was the source trying to get into his bed or out of it?
Liza: Oh, come on, how do I know? I'm not in charge of Tad's love life.
Adam: Oh? Since when? Since the kiss that ended our marriage?
Tad: Well, I'll be dipped. Good old Ryan is back, huh?
Juan Pablo: So you know him?
Tad: Oh, everybody knows Ryan. I mean, he's a pretty high-profile kind of guy. But if he's trying to fly below the radar, there's -- something's going on.
Juan Pablo: Is he a danger to Greenlee?
Tad: Oh, well, once upon a time, it was more the other way around.
Juan Pablo: I beg your pardon?
Tad: Oh, nothing, it's just ancient history. If I were you, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it, J.P. I'm sure Ryan's got a lot better things to do than to hurt Greenlee. Though, once upon a time, he was kind of a magnet for trouble.
Juan Pablo: Mm-hmm, and Greenlee had enough. I want to protect her from more.
Tad: Listen, if he's back in town, he's back to his old tricks but he doesn't want people to know about it, I've got a lot of friends who would want to be clued in, too.
Juan Pablo: Thank you for taking this on.
Tad: No, don't thank me. I haven't done anything yet. I got another mystery to solve first -- in the dining room.
Juan Pablo: The dining room?
Juan Pablo: Hmm. Let me see. Is this your mystery?
Tad: What's your connection to Alexander Cambias?
Juan Pablo: None. I only know the name through business. I assume this is a mistake.
Tad: Oh, no, no, no. Whoever set this up knows exactly what they were doing every step of the way. I wouldn't miss this show for anything.
Greenlee: Kendall just won't quit believing in you, no matter how badly you treat her.
Erica: Why are you defending someone who turned on you and took your company away?
Greenlee: Oh, about that -- Kendall and I are partners in Fusion again.
Erica: I don't believe you.
Greenlee: Why? Kendall realized she has a friend -- a real friend -- and that we need each other.
Erica: And if you really believe that Kendall is generous enough to share, you are sadly mistaken.
Greenlee: Well, unlike you, I trust Kendall, and she trusts me. Right, partner?
Greenlee: You're just in time. Erica doesn't believe that you and I have kissed and made up. Maybe you can convince her.
Kendall: No, not now. I have a really important meeting that's going to start any minute now.
Greenlee: It's about Alexander Cambias, right?
Kendall: How do you know? You're invited?
Greenlee: Yeah. It gets better. So is your mom.
Kendall: Wait a minute. Why? No, that doesn't make any sense. Neither one of you has any reason to be here.
Greenlee: I hate to bust your bubble, but the party's just getting started.
Kendall: What are they doing here?
Greenlee: What is he doing here?
Kendall: What the hell is going on here?
Erica: Don't look now, but --
Simone: Isn't this exciting?
Tad: It is now. If you like watching train wrecks.
Erica: I don't like this, David. I don't like this at all.
David: As I already told you, Erica, whatever happens here today, we are in the clear.
Kendall: Aidan. I really don't have a good feeling about this.
Aidan: What's going on?
Kendall: I have no idea, but I'm really glad that you're here. Jackson, too? I don't understand what's going on here. I don't understand this.
Aidan: Kendall, just relax, all right? Then we'll see what's what.
Kendall: No, no, I'm going to put a stop to this right now. Excuse me. Could I have everyone's attention, please? I'm afraid there's been a huge mix-up. This room is reserve for a private meeting, so I would appreciate it if you all would kindly leave.
Jack: Well, actually, Kendall, it seems to me that we all have as much right to be here as you do. And nobody's going anywhere -- not until we get some answers.
Ryan: It's almost time. Don't worry, old man, I won't let you down.
Brooke: Is this the breakout story you promised me?
Edmund: Just wait. You'll see.
Mia: Does anyone have a clue what's going on?
Tad: Well, we can always go right to the source. Kendall, you want to clue us in about this little shindig?
Kendall: Well, how should I know? I thought I was here for the reading of Alexander's will. But how can I be with all of these people here?
Adam: Erica's on the Cambias Industries board. Maybe your father-in-law left all the money to her and invited us here to watch the fireworks.
Kendall: I'm in hell, aren't I?
Erica: This isn't about the money, Adam. This is just so Alexander. He loved to play games.
Tad: Well, it's too bad he didn't hand out the rulebook so the rest of us could enjoy it.
Simone: Oh, what's the big deal? Maybe old Al left all of his bucks to us. You know, he's got plenty enough to go around, right?
Mia: Except that he didn't know us.
David: She's got that right. He wouldn't know me from Adam.
Jack: No, but Michael would.
Tad: Dead men don't throw parties.
Greenlee: Are you sure?
Jack: Well, I can tell you this much -- what's left of Michael Cambias is, even as we speak, laying on an autopsy table. So this invitation -- whatever the hell it means -- had to have come from Alexander's estate.
Liza: How would Alexander Cambias know that we have a connection to Michael? Or Kendall?
Kendall: Well, how the hell should I know? It's not like Michael and his father were close.
Greenlee: Maybe Michael told his father about marrying you.
Kendall: No, that's impossible.
Greenlee: Why not?
Kendall: Because I know that Michael didn't speak to his father before he died.
Edmund: Before who died, Michael or Alexander?
Kendall: Alexander, of course.
Simone: Ooh, champagne. Now things are really starting to look up.
Greenlee: I guess the party's officially started.
Waiter: Sparkling cider, Ms. Kane?
Erica: Thank you.
Tad: Sparkling cider for Erica. Whoever it is knows their guests very well.
Liza: And knows how to treat their guests right. Those are pricey bubbles.
Kendall: Who authorized this?
Waiter: I'm sorry?
Kendall: Who's picking up the tab?
Waiter: I really don't know. I --
Kendall: Well, find out. If I'm paying for this out of my inheritance, shouldn't I have been consulted first?
Mia: Oh, who invited the cops?
Tad: Well, that does it. We're in the last chapter of a whodunit, and we're just about to find out who the killer is.
Simone: Yeah, maybe it was the butler in the library with a candlestick.
Derek: Sparkling cider? Thanks.
Adam: Perhaps someone should propose a toast.
Simone: To the host?
Aidan: I'm not drinking to Cambias -- Alexander or Michael.
Liza: I don't see much to drink to, either.
Edmund: How about to justice?
All: To justice.
Jack: Hi, sweetheart. How are you?
Greenlee: Do you know what's up with this?
Jack: No. No, actually, I can't say that I do.
Greenlee: Hmm. Well, don't look now, but Erica's watching us.
Jack: Yes, well, it wouldn't be a party without Erica, now, would it?
Greenlee: Well, at least this time you don't have to worry about me stopping the show.
Jack: I'll see you later.
Greenlee: Catch you later. Jack's as clueless as the rest of us.
Simone: Oh, great.
Jack: So, what do you make of all this, huh?
Erica: I'm not sure.
Jack: Yeah, me, either. Did Bianca see your invitation to this?
Erica: No, and I didn't mention it to her.
Jack: Well, I think that's probably good. I think the less she hears about Michael Cambias, probably the better. So, how is she doing?
Erica: It's very hard to tell. You know Bianca. She always puts up such a brave front.
Jack: Well, she tries. When I stopped over to tell her about Michael's death, she seemed to take that very hard.
Erica: But she's fine now. She really is. You know how resilient she is.
Jack: Yes, just like her mother. You know, I had hoped with all my heart that you had been with her that night. But where were you?
Erica: I mean, meetings and lawyers and so much to keep track of. I don't know. I --
Jack: Well, that must have been really hard, too, without your datebook -- which I saw at David's cabin.
Erica: Well, that's impossible because, you know, I am never without my datebook. You see? I mean, look, check it out. I mean, tabs torn, dates made --
Jack: Yes, well, anybody can rip tabs and write in appointments.
Erica: Will you excuse me, Jack?
Simone: Oh, hey, cheers, girlfriend.
Simone: Yeah, yeah.
Mia: Greenlee told us. We're Fusion again. That's great.
Mia: I didn't feel the love. Did you?
Simone: No. But it looks like somebody's going to.
Aidan: How are you holding up?
Kendall: How do you think? What is happening here?
Aidan: Damned if I know. But I don't like the smell of it. If you want, we can leave right now.
Kendall: No, no, I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying here. I'm a Cambias. I belong here.
Bill: Good afternoon, everyone. Thank you for coming. My name is Bill Masters. I'm the attorney representing Alexander Cambias.
Adam: Well, I suppose that makes you the ringleader of this circus. Perhaps you could tell us what the devil this is about.
Bill: If I could impose on your patience for just a few more moments, we'll get to the particulars.
Tad: Seems like a lot of fuss for home movies, doesn't it?
Bill: As most of you may have already guessed, you've been invited here for the reading of Alexander Cambias' will.
Kendall: Wait a minute. I'm Michael's widow. I'm the only living heir to the Cambias fortune. Most of these people -- they don't even know Alexander, so why are they here?
Bill: I'm simply following Mr. Cambias' instructions. But I can assure you that everyone is here for a reason. Now, before we proceed, is Lieutenant Frye here? Good. Lieutenant Frye, would you please share with us everything you know about the autopsy results on Michael Cambias?
Kendall: How can you be so insensitive? I just lost my husband. To subject me to this is ridiculous. It's wrong. I'm not going to have it. I'm not going to sit here and listen to this.
David: Oh, please, Kendall, spare us the grieving widow act, will you? We all know you married the guy for his money.
Jack: Can we please just get to the point?
Bill: Gladly. Could you please tell us if it has been determined when Michael Cambias died?
Derek: That hasn't been established yet.
Bill: Is it possible he died before his father?
Derek: It's too early to tell, given the condition of the body. But, yeah, it's a possibility.
Kendall: What the hell are you trying to do?
Bill: Michael signed an agreement with his father before he was brought into Cambias Industries. In the event that Michael predeceases his father, all Michael's moneys and properties revert to Alexander Cambias' estate.
Erica: Are you saying that if Michael died before his father that Kendall gets nothing?
Bill: Would everyone please take their seats?
Brooke: So, this is the big story, huh? The greedy, overdressed, young widow goes from rags to riches to rags. Oh, boy.
Edmund: Just fasten your seat belt, darling.
Kendall: You're wrong. This has to be wrong. I inherit everything.
Bill: Only if Michael didn't die before his father.
Kendall: But he didn't. He didn't. Michael married me the day Alexander died. Michael was alive. I have the marriage certificate. I have the marriage certificate to prove it. I do. You don't believe me? If you don't believe me, ask Aidan. Aidan was there. Right -- Aidan, tell them. He has proof. He went to Vegas, and he found eyewitnesses who saw me with Michael that same day. Right, Aidan? Tell them!
Aidan: Yeah, I interviewed two or three people who confirmed seeing Michael and Kendall.
Bill: I'd like the names of those witnesses. They'll have to be reinterviewed.
Kendall: Why? Why? It doesn't even matter. Michael was Alexander's heir, so no matter who died when, I'm -- I'm the only one -- I still get the money. I'm the only one who gets the money.
Brooke: I think I'm getting a headache.
Kendall: I am the only Cambias -- the only one -- which means I get everything.
Bill: Your logic is interesting, but why don't we hear from Mr. Cambias himself. Alexander videotaped his will in Las Vegas just before he died.
Aidan: Come on, sit down.
Alexander: Hello, friends, Michael. I hope you'll forgive a dying man for milking one last drama, but this, after all, is my final power play. You're all sitting there waiting and wondering, who will it be? Who will inherit the Cambias billions? Well, in the end, the choice was easy and the only one who made sense. I won't keep you in suspense any longer. Please meet the sole heir of the Cambias fortune.
Simone: Oh, wow.
Ryan: Hey, guys. Long time, no see.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Jack: I need to talk to you. I need to talk to you about the night that Michael Cambias disappeared.
Tad: Jumping back into bed with Ryan would certainly be a good way to stick it to Adam.
Ryan: You really want it to go down like this, Kendall?
Kendall: Where I win and you lose? You bet.
Greenlee: Bring it on.
