Tad: What happened?

Jack: I did what I could. Now it's up to the judge.

Bailiff: All rise.

Judy: Judge Lampert has just returned from chambers, where she will render her decision on whether or not business tycoon Michael Cambias will stand trial for the rape of a 19-year-old Pine Valley woman.

Judge: Ladies and gentlemen, this was not an easy decision for me to reach. We heard sworn testimony from the plaintiff, which I found quite compelling, but I can't render a decision based on personal feelings. I am bound to rule based on the evidence presented by the district attorney and whether said evidence warrants ordering the defendant to stand trial according to the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I did not find this to be the case. Therefore, I must rule that the charges against Michael Cambias be dismissed.

[Gallery murmurs]

[Judge pounds gavel]

Judge: Dismissed, but without prejudice, meaning the charges can and will be reinstated should new evidence be produced for review by this court. Until that time, the defendant, Michael Cambias, is free to go. Court is dismissed.

Bailiff: All rise.

Wayne: Congratulations, Michael.

Michael: Well, thank you. It really couldn't have gone any other way, though.

Judy: Judge Lampert has just given her ruling. Rape charges against Michael Cambias have been dropped. In a stunning blow to the prosecution, Judge Hannah Lampert ruled that the sworn testimony given today was not sufficient to bring formal charges against Cambias. Let's see if we can --

Ryan: I bet you wish now Iíd turned that damned thing off. Alex? Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey, you all right? Oh. Hey, can I get some help in here? Now! Listen, shh, it's ok. It's all right, it's all right. Relax, relax, relax. Breathe, breathe. It's all right. Ok.

[Alexander groans]

Myrtle: That shameless devil.

Opal: Yeah. A public hanging would be too good for him.

Brooke: How can he live with what he did to Bianca?

Jack: Wayne, you and I both know that what happened here today had very little to do with justice.

Wayne: Well, my client will disagree.

Jack: Maybe you should tell your client that his days of freedom are numbered. We're going to be back here very soon for round two, and I guarantee you this time the verdict will be guilty.

Michael: Not going to happen, Jack.

Jack: Why don't you get him out of here before this crowd turns into a lynch mob.

Michael: You can't stand it, can you? As a matter of fact, none of you can stand the fact that I won and you lost and there's nothing you can do about it.

Lena: I'll kill you, you son of a bitch! Let me go!

Wayne: Guard! It's like this dark cloud hanging over my head.

Boyd: Come on, Lena, you're only going to make things worse.

Lena: Sick, lying rapist!

Wayne: Guard, we got a problem here!

Boyd: Lena, stop it!

Lena: You're not fit to live! I'll kill you now!

Guard: All right, ma'am!

Boyd: Easy, easy!

Lena: You going to arrest me? You going to arrest me and let him go?

Wayne: No, no, no, no!

Anna: Nobody's getting arrested! Calm down!

Wayne: A roomful of witnesses who just heard you threaten my client.

Anna: Calm down. Everybody just take a breath. What's going on?

Michael: It's all right, it's all right. You can put those bracelets away.

Anna: What, you're not going to press charges?

Michael: Well, it's a waste of taxpayers' time and money, don't you think? Besides, Ms. Kundera can't touch me. None of you can. You know what, the funny thing is each and every one of you has tried, but your pathetic attempts to take me down have failed. And you want to know why? Because I don't stop until I get what I want, and that day has finally arrived. My mission here in Pine Valley has been accomplished. First, I took over Fusion -- which by the way, ladies, was like taking candy from a baby. Then I set my sights on Enchantment. Mr. Larraby, I look forward to working with you. And to complete the trifecta, as of this morning, it appears as if Adam Chandler can take his retirement to that little trout stream in Canada. I'm Chandler Enterprises' new C.E.O. So Iím sure you're wondering what that all means for you. Well, it means I own this town and everybody in it.

Tad: Congratulations.

Michael: Know what, why don't you listen up, Tad. Why don't you go tell your father that he should be warned. I'll be taking my seat on the hospital board of directors. See how well that sits with him.

Tad: Maybe you should think about getting out of here pretty soon before somebody lands you in the hospital.

Boyd: Yeah, you may want to check your back, because you're going to pay for what you did to Bianca, I promise you that.

Michael: Why don't you get back to the lab, Larraby. Time is money.

Boyd: I'd rather fry in hell than work for you, Cambias.

Michael: Bring your sunscreen.

Judy: Mr. Cambias?

Reporter: With this ruling --

Judy: Mr. Cambias, Mr. Cambias? Now that the charges against you have been dropped, how do you feel?

Michael: Well, of course, it is a relief, not that I thought there was any question of my innocence, of course.

Judy: There seemed to be in the mind of the district attorney.

Michael: Yes, well, unfortunately, Mr. Montgomery had a personal ax to grind with me. You know, I'm a corporate raider, I'm not a rapist, and the fact that a woman would, you know, force her daughter to cry rape in order to save her company I just think is -- well, it just goes to show you how desperate she was. It's sad.

Reporter: Mr. Cambias, was your father the mastermind behind these corporate takeovers?

Michael: The takeovers were engineered solely by me, but I'm sure that once my dad hears of this, he'll see the man that he made me.

[Monitor beeps]

Alexander: Ryan.

Ryan: I'm right here, Alex. I'm here. What's going on?

Zaza: Quiet.

Ryan: What do you mean, quiet? I mean, the doctors have already cleared him for checkout.

[Monitor flatlines]

Ryan: What is that? What's that?

Zaza: We've got a code blue, cardiac arrest.

Ryan: Well, get in there, do something!

Zaza: Stand back, sir.

Doctor: What have we got?

Zaza: Looks like heart block. We lost his pulse about a minute ago.

Doctor: Set up for external pacing. Give him an amp of epi.

Ryan: What are you standing around for? Get in there!

Doctor: Who are you?

Ryan: I'm, uh -- Iím his son.

Doctor: You'll have to wait outside.

Nurse: Sir, please, come with me.

Boyd: Lena, believe me, we all hate Michael Cambias as much as you do.

Lena: The man's an animal. He can't be let free.

Boyd: Look, I know, ok? We got to hope it's temporary. Just leave it to Jack to find enough evidence to bury him. Meanwhile, getting yourself thrown in jail is not going to solve anything. You're just going to give Bianca something else to stress about.

Lena: I can't help that. Someone has to stop this man.

Kendall: Someone will.

Jack: Guess I can't put this off any longer.

Myrtle: You've got to tell Erica and Bianca.

Jack: Yeah.

Myrtle: Yeah.

Jack: God give me strength. Thanks, Myrtle.

Opal: Well, I guess there's nothing left to do but hop back on that hotline to the man upstairs.

Myrtle: Well, I just hope she has the strength to handle one more injustice.

Bianca: This is all my fault.

Erica: Bianca --

Bianca: If it hadn't have been for me, then you wouldn't have lost your company, Mom. You were so focused on helping me that you couldn't even watch your own back.

Erica: Honey, Enchantment is just a company.

Bianca: Enchantment is your life.

Erica: No, it's not. You are my life. I meant what I said. Enchantment can go to hell, and Michael Cambias right along with it.

Bianca: All right, well, then that means that he's won.

Erica: Michael Cambias has won nothing. Michael Cambias is about to go to prison, and he can't run a Fortune 500 company from behind bars.

Bianca: No, I guess you're right.

Erica: Soon -- very, very soon -- Michael Cambias will be in jail and out of our lives. Please just hold on to that thought.

Bianca: Ok. But what's taking so much time? I mean, shouldn't the judge have made a ruling by now?

Erica: Oh, honey, I am sure that it's not going to be much longer at all.

Bianca: Whoa, Mom? Are you ok?

David: Erica?

Erica: Yes. David, would you please tell my overprotective daughter that Iím just fine?

David: You know your mother, Bianca. No one bounces back like Erica Kane.

[Door opens]

Bianca: Well? Did the judge make her ruling?

Jack: David, could you give us just a few minutes alone, please?

David: Sure.

Erica: Jack? So did Judge Lampert set the trial date?

Jack: There isn't going to be a trial.

Erica: What? Why not?

Jack: Judge Lampert feels she needs more proof. Look, it isn't over. I will get that evidence for her, and she has ruled that once we do that, she'll reinstate the charges against Cambias.

Erica: Well, what does that mean, exactly? I mean, Michael Cambias -- are you saying that he's -- he's free?

Jack: For now.

Erica: Oh, my God! Oh, my God, what kind of a judge is this -- this Judge Lampert? She would rule in favor of a sadistic rapist? And what more evidence does she possibly need? She has Biancaís sworn testimony!

Bianca: I messed up, didn't I? I wasn't convincing on the stand, nobody believed what I said.

Jack: No, no, no. Now, you listen to me -- you did not mess up on the stand. You were amazing up there, and I know how difficult and how much courage it took to relive that nightmare in public.

Bianca: Yeah, well, it didn't do any good, did it? I mean, Michaelís free. That's what it means. The judge dismissed all the charges against him.

Jack: What it means is the judge needs more proof, and I will give it to her. I promise you that what you did on that stand today will count. Now, I need to get back to my office. But I want to stop by and see you later, ok?

Bianca: Ok.

Jack: Look at me. I love you.

Bianca: I love you, too.

Jack: Well, let's not ever forget that.

Bianca: Ok.

Erica: Jack? Did you mean what you said about being able to get more evidence against Michael Cambias or were you just saying that for Biancaís sake?

Jack: I've got to go. I'm sorry.

Erica: Sweetheart, don't you blame yourself. You were magnificent in that courtroom today. You were spectacular. You were so courageous. I'm so proud of you.

Bianca: It didn't do any good. And look what it did to you, Mom.

Erica: My sweetheart, watching you up on that stand, watching how brave you were, watching you face your fears head-on, that healed me in ways you will never be able to understand. I could never explain that to you.

Erica: You get the hell out of here or Iíll call for the guard.

Michael: Ok, before you start crying rape, Erica, I think that we should, you know, set up a time to meet and talk business.

Erica: You're out of your mind.

Michael: Erica, we need to talk about your job description. Now that Iím head of Enchantment, you'll be taking orders from me.

Erica: The day I take orders from you, they'll be selling snow cones in hell -- and that's exactly where you can go, and you can take your company with you.

Michael: Erica, bitterness is not becoming of you. I don't see any reason why we can't find a way to find a creative co-existence together.

Bianca: Oh, you know what, my mother told you to go to hell.

Michael: And you always do what your mommy tells you, hmm? Telling bald-faced lies under oath? Tell me something, where exactly did your lies get you today? Lucky for both of you I have a forgiving nature. And as for my victory today --

Bianca: Um, sorry, but you did not win anything today.

Michael: Well, the judge ruled in my favor. How do you spell defeat, hmm?

Bianca: I'm not defeated. And neither is my mother. No matter what you do to us, we'll never be your victims.

Michael: Ooh, you are woman, hear you roar.

Bianca: You know what, I don't care what the judge ruled today. God knows what you did, and you're going to be punished for it someday.

Michael: Hmm.

Erica: You get out.

Michael: Well, start packing up your office, Erica.

Erica: Are you all right, sweetheart?

Bianca: No, just the sight of him makes my stomach turn.

Erica: Of course it does. Ok, I'm going to find David, then Iíll find something to settle your stomach.

Bianca: No, please don't go, Mom. Really, I'm ok.

Erica: Are you sure?

Bianca: Yes. You know, what I really want is for you to go home and get some rest.

Erica: And leave you here alone? I don't think so.

Bianca: No, you know, Maggie is waiting for me, and we're going to hang out. So please, Mom, just go home, draw yourself a nice, long, hot bath, and be good to yourself so that I don't have to worry about you. Please.

Erica: All right. But I'll see you at home later?

Bianca: Yes, I won't be late.

Erica: Bianca, I want you to remember what your Uncle Jack said. We are going to find enough evidence to put Michael Cambias away. One way or another, Michael Cambias is going to be out of our lives.

Opal: Oh, yeah, hi, Palmer. Listen, I've been trying to reach you all day. I hope you're picking up your messages. But for the sake of your high blood pressure, I'm glad you weren't here. Man, what a horror. Erica collapsed in court, had to be carried out, then the judge ruled against Jackson, set Cambias free. You should've heard that S.O.B. bragging on himself about how he was the king of the corporate raiders or something. You would've strangled him with your bare hands, just bragging all about how he owns the whole town now and all of us in it.

Justin: It's a tough break, boss.

Jack: Look, Justin, if this is where you tell me I should've let you handle the hearing --

Justin: No, no, no. Jack, Jack, Jack, that's the furthest thought from my mind. I just want to tell you how sorry I am that things worked out this way, for you and for your niece.

Jack: I appreciate that.

Jack: Hey.

Greenlee: None of this is your fault.

[Phone rings]

Michael: Hello?

Ryan: Is this Michael Cambias?

Michael: Who's this?

Ryan: Your newest enemy.

Aidan: Kendall, where the hell did you get off to?

Kendall: I didn't realize it was your turn to watch me.

Aidan: No, I just followed you out of the courtroom.

Kendall: Oh, well, excuse me, I didn't know I needed your permission to go down the hallway. I went to the witness waiting room to see Erica and Bianca. I wanted to apologize or try to explain.

Aidan: And did you?

Kendall: When I got to the door, I -- I froze. What could I possibly say to make up for Michaelís hate crimes? "Hey, Mom, Sis, sorry I fell in love with this freak who's got the whole town scared to death"? "Sorry, silly me, sorry about that, whoops"?

Aidan: Come on, let's get out of here.

Kendall: Yeah, and do what, go and have a burger at B.J.ís and pretend this never happened? Ignore the fact that my ex-lover raped my sister and is now walking free?

Aidan: Kendall, Iím so sorry.

Kendall: Well, you should be.

Aidan: What for?

Kendall: For not letting me kill Michael when I had the chance.

Anna: Oh, David. Did you see Bianca?

David: Yeah.

Anna: How is she?

David: Well, I wasn't there when Jack told her that Cambias was set free. I'm sure she's devastated.

Anna: Yeah, it's terrible.

David: No, it's a hell of a lot worse than terrible. It's a travesty of justice. Guess that's what happens when you tell the truth, huh?

Anna: Judge made a bad call, but I still think you did the right thing telling the truth. You said this might happen and it did. Maybe I was wrong.

David: I got to go, Anna.

Bianca: Proof. Proof that that monster raped me. There has to be something. June 27. Almost two months. Oh, God. No, no, no, no, it can't -- can't be.

Michael: Who the hell is this?

Ryan: I saw you rape a woman and walk away.

Michael: I know you.

Ryan: Oh, you're going to know me when I hit Pine Valley. Count the days.

Michael: Oh, come on. Blocked Caller I.D. Was probably just some idiot playing a game.

Palmer: So Cambias made his final move against Chandler enterprises as soon as you and Stuart left for your summer vacation.

Adam: Temporary, at best.

Palmer: Don't you care about your company?

Adam: Cambias' controlling interest in Chandler will be short-lived.

Palmer: Well, I hope your stockholders agree with you.

Adam: I'll make them agree with me. I'll expose whatever underhanded tactics Cambias used and take back what's mine. I'm just afraid the damage to -- to poor Bianca may be irreparable.

Palmer: Yes, so am I and so is Erica.

Adam: I can only imagine.

Palmer: I wish your imagination was working when you -- when you hired that pervert and when you posted his bail!

Adam: All right, all right, all right, I admit I was wrong. It never occurred to me that he'd sink to these depths.

Palmer: Well, I tell you, Michael Cambias isn't the only one to do the unexpected.

Adam: And he won't see it coming.

Palmer: No one will. That's the beauty of it.

Adam: All right. Obviously, you've thought this through. What's our first move?

Kendall: I had the perfect plan to get rid of Michael, and you stopped me.

Aidan: What, death by poison or snakebite, which could've been traced back to you?

Kendall: So what?

Aidan: So you could've spent the rest of your life in prison.

Kendall: Oh, like it's so great now, it's a party now.

Aidan: Kendall, killing Cambias was never an option.

Kendall: For me it was, ok? I don't give a damn if I go to jail. At least then I won't have to see Michaelís stupid face again. He'll be dead and rotting in hell. And tell me, Mr. Hero, whose life did you save? Not Biancaís, not mine. Who the hell cares what happens to me, anyway?

Aidan: I care, Kendall. I care.

Kendall: Why?

Jack: Bianca put herself in my hands. She trusted me. I told her everything would be just fine. I let her down totally.

Greenlee: No, you did the best you could with what you had. Bianca knows that. She still believes in you. So do I.

Mary: Jack? I'm so sorry about what happened today. I know Bianca must be devastated. If there's anything I could do -- maybe -- maybe the three of us could go out and have dinner and help take your mind off of things?

Jack: I need to get back to the office. I'll see you later, ok? Thank you.

Greenlee: Mother, what the hell is wrong with you? Do you have clue one what that man has suffered today? Do you even care? Do you use every crisis as an excuse to cozy up to your ex? God, only you would parlay a day from hell into a dinner invitation.

Mary: That's so unfair, Greenlee. I was just trying to help Jack through a difficult situation.

Greenlee: You really want to help him? Leave him alone.

Opal: Not so fast, Little Mary Sunshine.

Mary: Get out of my way.

Opal: You know, I have seen all kinds of low in my time, but you really take the prize. Circling Jack like some vulture in heat on one of the darkest days of his life? Using Biancaís tragedy to try to worm your way in between him and the woman he loves?

Mary: I did no such thing.

Opal: You just sat here and watched a rapist get cut loose. You ought to be sick to your stomach, not chatting up Jack for some dinner date. I guess it really goes to show some women have no shame.

Boyd: There's got to be something out there that we can hammer Cambias with.

Myrtle: I don't see what, darling. I mean, those detectives have combed the house from top to bottom.

Boyd: Well, maybe they missed something.

Lena: Boyd, what if they didn't? What if they let him go? I can't take that chance. I wonít.

Maggie: I was supposed to hook up with Bianca. I --

Myrtle: Oh, darling, not to worry. She probably wants to be by herself for a while.

Maggie: Oh, Myrtle. What are we going to do? How are we going to help Bianca?

[Phone rings]

David: David Hayward. You found Ms. Montgomery's results? You already faxed them? Great. Thank you. Oh, damn it.

[Knock on door]

Kendall: I'm such a pain in your butt, Aidan. What do I bring to your life except trouble?

Aidan: You make my life a hell of a lot more interesting, that's for sure.

Kendall: Yeah, but if I fell off the face of this earth, wouldn't you be the tiniest bit relieved?

Aidan: No. And why would you think like that, anyway? You're the one real friend I have in this town.

Kendall: Well, same back at you.

Aidan: I'm just worried that this whole thing with Michael Cambias is going to bring you down to his level.

Kendall: It already has. It's like Michaelís like an infection inside of me. It's like I can't get rid of him.

Aidan: Yeah, well, the odds are that's exactly how your mother and your sister feel.

Kendall: How would I know?

Aidan: Maybe it's about bloody time you found out.

David: Bianca, come in, please. I'm sure I don't have to tell you how sorry I am with the judge's decision.

Bianca: Oh, David, that's not why I'm here.

David: Then what can I do for you?

Bianca: I was wondering if you got the results from those tests that you ran the other day at the clinic?

David: As a matter of fact, they just came in. Uh, you know, I really haven't had a chance to look at them yet, so, um -- well, you'll be happy to know that you tested negative for HIV, and it's my guess that you'll test negative again in six months. You didn't contract any sexually transmitted diseases, so that should put your mind at rest.

Bianca: David, did you run any other tests that day? The reason that I ask is, um, my period is late. And that's not really unusual. I mean, since the anorexia, my cycle's never been regular, and I've been very stressed out lately, so I wouldn't be surprised if I skipped a month or two.

David: If you're asking me if I ran a pregnancy test, Bianca, the answer is yes.

Reggie: I'm with you all the way, Jack. Anything you need, you let me know.

Jack: Thanks, Reggie. You're a good man to have around.

Reggie: We're family, you know? We got to stick close, stay tight.

Jack: Yeah, you're absolutely right. But I'm afraid that there's nothing you can do to help right now.

Reggie: Well, how about this for a plan, all right -- how about I send Cambias down to Sixth and Front Street? You know, I mean, my boys down there will take care of him, no problem.

Jack: Not that I wouldn't buy tickets to see that, but I know that you're just joking, right? Reggie? You're joking, right?

Reggie: Yeah. Whatever the man says.

Jack: Yeah, good. Listen, there's something I need to go take care of, so why don't you go on home.

Reggie: I can't stay here with you? Can't hang just for a little bit?

Jack: No, no. What I have to do you can't have any part of.

Stuart: "Stuart." Adam. "I couldn't fix the motor. Had to go to town for a part. Will be back tomorrow. Take care of yourself. Adam." Hmm.

Simone: Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Greenlee: Yeah, a hell of a ride.

Mia: How are we supposed to stay excited about this contest --

Simone: Or our new cosmetic line?

Mia: With Michael Cambias as our boss cracking the whip?

Simone: And chasing us around the water cooler?

Mia: Ugh.

Greenlee: Well, whatever we're faced with, it's nothing compared to what Biancaís dealing with.

Simone: Yeah, that's absolutely true.

Mia: You know, I can't even imagine.

Michael: Ladies. Why the doom and gloom? Come on, this is an exciting time. I mean, now that Fusionís my baby, it's time to put it on the map. I mean, hell, I think -- I think we can corner the whole globe. What do you think?

Zaza: Mr. Cambias suffered a massive coronary. His condition is listed as critical.

Ryan: But he's going to pull through, right?

Zaza: I'm afraid it's too soon to tell.

Ryan: Hey, old man. I made a call to your son, put the fear of God into him. Or at least the fear of me. Did my best Alexander Cambias impression. Michael needs to be afraid of something. That's why you need to stay alive. Do you understand me? You need to stay alive. Don't let Michael win.

Kendall: Aidan, have you not heard a single word I've said to you? I told you, Erica and Bianca, they blame me for --

Aidan: For Michael and want nothing to do with you. Really? Only I spoke to Erica, and she told me that she doesn't blame you. Only you blame you, and you've got to stop. You've got to stop beating on yourself and start caring about those that need you.

Kendall: Well, tell me how to do that, Aidan. I'm a walking reminder of the worst night of Ericaís life, and now Bianca sees me the same way.

Aidan: Maybe you're the only one that's looking at things the wrong way. Did it ever occur to you that you're the one good thing that came out of Ericaís ordeal and, because of that, you can help Bianca overcome hers? Go and see Erica and Bianca, because if you ask me, they need you more than ever right now.

Bianca: So you did run a pregnancy test?

David: Yeah.

Bianca: Why?

David: Well, it's -- it's standard procedure in rape cases.

Bianca: Did you have, um, any reason to suspect that I might be pregnant?

David: Well, like I said, Bianca, it's -- it's strictly routine.

Bianca: And the results are -- are in there? Am I?

David: Pregnant? Yes, Bianca. Yes, you are.

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Tad: Don't do anything I wouldn't do.

Jack: And what wouldn't you do, Tad, if you were me?

Aidan: I know how important Bianca and Erica are to you. This is your chance to really help them.

Greenlee: You going to rape me to prove what a big man you are?

Bianca: What do I do?
