>> Previously on "All My Children" --
Lena: A job? I start tomorrow?
Greenlee: No corporate espionage. This is my granddaddy we're talking about.
Michael: What a nice surprise.
Mia: This was a mistake.
Opal: Maybe you ought to think about talking to somebody. You can only hold this pain in for so long.
David: You dragged me out of that O.R. and you kept me from saving my little girl.
Tad: You are out of your mind.
Simone: Fusion's sexiest man contest will be the biggest thing to hit Philly since "Rocky." Yes! Did you even know what we did in Phoenix? How about Austin? Yes! Yes! Oh, my gosh, you're going to love -- no, you will not be disappointed. You're in? Fantastic. All right, so you know what, baby, I'm going to call you back when -- when I’ve got the details, ok? All right, ciao.
Kendall: Simone, will please get over here and help me proof this ad so I can submit it before the deadline, please?
Simone: Do I have to do absolutely every-- whoa!
Carlos: Are you ok? Cuidado.
Kendall: Simone. Please?
Simone: All right, dots.
Lena: Um, excuse me, I'm looking for Ms. Dupres.
Carlos: Oh, she's --
Kendall: Why are you here?
Lena: Actually, I was hoping to speak to Greenlee.
Kendall: Oh, you're on the rebound already? She doesn't go your way.
Lena: I just wanted to thank her for her generosity.
Kendall: Generosity? You obviously have the wrong Greenlee Dupres.
Lena: Well, if at least I could leave these for her?
Carlos: I'll make sure she gets them.
Lena: Thank you.
Kendall: Don't you have a plane to catch?
Lena: That's just it -- thanks to Greenlee, I can stay in America.
Kendall: Excuse me?
Lena: As of today, I'm a financial analyst at Greenlee Investments.
Erica: Palmer, is everything all right? Val said you needed to see me right away.
Palmer: No, no, I'm fine. How about some coffee?
Erica: Well, Palmer, Val made it seem like it was an emergency.
Palmer: It most certainly is.
Erica: Well, what's wrong with you? What's going on?
Tad: A little casual for a funeral, isn't it?
Joe: I changed my mind. I'm not going. I don't think you ought to, either.
Tad: What do you mean you're not going? Leora was your patient.
Joe: Yes, but David blames us for her death, and I don't want to go to a funeral and take the chance of him blowing up again.
Tad: Wait a minute. Anna's a friend, ok? She's been a good friend of this whole family. Don't we at least owe it to her to pay our respect?
Joe: Yes, yes, of course, and we will do so, but in private.
Tad: All right, Pop, I'll tell you what, you know, you handle it your way, and I’m going to handle it my way. I'm certainly not going to let David’s paranoia keep me from being a good friend to Anna Devane.
Joe: Now, Tad --
Joe: Tad --
Tad: No, seriously, I’ll see you later.
Ruth: Was that Tad?
Joe: Yeah, yeah. He's going to go to the funeral. Sure hope I did the right thing.
Ruth: You did. Darling, I know you feel awful about Leora’s death, but the less time you spend around David Hayward, the better.
Joe: Yeah, yeah. Thank you, thank you.
Joe: Let's hope our son --
[knock on door]
Joe: Doesn't get in any kind of imbroglio there.
Ruth: Well, maybe he changed his mind, hmm? Oh! Jake! Oh, honey! Oh, my goodness! Oh!
Mia: Oh, my God, what a total score. That was WPVI in Philadelphia. They want to help promote our sexy man contest. Simone, did you just hear what I said?
Simone: I'm sure you know where to put this.
Mia: Hello? Simone?
Simone: What? I'm just having some fun.
Mia: He's taken, remember? Besides, we've got 100 hard bodies to wrestle right here. Help me.
Simone: Yeah, well, I don't want a hard body, I want a nice guy -- like Carlos.
Mia: Yeah, well, I've had my fill of nice and good. Well, what? At least you know what you're getting yourself into. With a bad boy, you can protect yourself.
Simone: Yeah, well, I've had bad boys. You want to see my scars?
Mia: No, not really.
Simone: Mia, what is it?
Jake: I hope you don't mind me calling like this.
Mia: Jake. Um -- no, no, not at all.
Jake: I'm at my folks'.
Mia: Oh, you're in Pine Valley?
Jake: Yeah, I just got back, and you're the first person I called. Listen, I don't blame you for wanting to hang up on me, but, really, I'd really like to see you if I could.
Mia: Uh, you want to see me?
Simone: Oh. No, no.
Jake: I want to apologize and to explain, if you'll give me the chance.
Mia: Well --
Simone: Don't you dare.
Mia: Sure, I guess so.
Jake: All right, thank you. Thank you. How about dinner? Are you free tonight?
Mia: Dinner? Dinner sounds good, yeah.
Mia: Dinner's good.
Jake: Ok. Pick you up at 8:00.
Mia: Oh, all right. I'll see you then.
Simone: What? Ugh. Are you out of your fricking mind? I mean, what are you -- what are you thinking?
Mia: He wants to explain.
Simone: Explain what? He cheated on you and then he ran away. What, now you want to go kiss and make up?
Mia: No, I just -- I want to hear what he has to say, you know?
Simone: Oh, this is unbelievable. This is way too much. What -- ugh. Wait, no, where are you going?
Mia: I'm going to Martins'.
Simone: No. No, you're not.
Simone: No, I'm not going to let you. You're going to make an idiot out of yourself.
Mia: I -- I’ll be back, ok? Oh, my God. How do I look?
Erica: Really, palmer.
Palmer: Erica, why haven't you returned my calls? I know, I know what Cambias tried to do to you.
Erica: Oh, Palmer, is that what this is about? Really, I don't want to talk about it.
Palmer: And I know that Chris' death was a terrible blow to you. You loved him very much.
Erica: Yes, I did, and I always will. But believe me, I'm -- I'm handling it.
Palmer: No, you're not. No, no, you've shut yourself off from the people who love you, you lose yourself in your work --
Erica: Well, I've always worked hard.
Palmer: I know, I know that. But you have to deal with what's happened.
Erica: I am dealing. I'm dealing very well.
Palmer: Uh-huh, by avoiding it? I think you should see a professional.
Erica: Oh, no, not you, too. Oh -- Palmer, look, I do not need to lie down on a couch and be shrunk.
Palmer: Well, if you won't do it for yourself, at least do it for the people who love you.
Erica: Palmer, this is ridiculous. I am the same woman I was a month ago. Nothing in my life has changed.
Kendall: Oh, Mother. Thank God I found you.
Erica: Well, why? What is it?
Maggie: Hi, Janelle.
Janelle: Oh, Maggie. Hi.
Maggie: Hi. I can't believe this is happening.
Janelle: It was David’s greatest fear.
Maggie: David will be glad that you're here.
Greenlee: Well, I almost didn't come. I drove around the block twice. But if it weren't for David, you know --
Maggie: I know.
Greenlee: Oh, God.
Jack: Janelle. Anna told me that you agreed to lead the service.
Janelle: How could I say no?
Jack: Well, thank you. Thank you very much. Anna can use all the support she can get right now.
Janelle: I just hope I can get through this. Oh, they loved that little girl so much.
Jack: You'll be fine. You'll be fine. This is not going to be an easy day for anybody.
Maggie: Hi. What are you doing here?
Henry: I heard about Leora. I thought you might need a friend.
Maggie: Thank you.
Jack: Tad, buddy, what are you doing here?
Tad: I'm here because Anna needs her friends.
Jack: I'm not so sure that Hayward is going to see it that way.
Tad: Since when do I give a damn about what Hayward thinks?
Jack: Look, this service is to honor the memory of a child. It is not a place to stir up grievances, my friend.
Tad: I'm not going to stir up anything. Look, a friend of mine lost her daughter. I'm just going to pay my respects, that's all.
Jack: And maybe get in Hayward’s face a little bit?
Tad: Make your point, Jack.
Jack: I was at Dixie’s memorial when Hayward crashed it. He made quite a scene.
Tad: And that's what you think I'm going to do?
Jack: Tad, if it is, I want you to leave, please.
Aidan: Hi. Where's Anna?
Greenlee: She's not here. Neither is David.
Aidan: They haven't arrived yet? Where are they?
Mia: Hi, Dr. Martin.
Jake: Mia, I thought we said dinner.
Mia: Oh, I know, I know, but I couldn't wait. I -- I just wanted to --
Ruth: And I'll give you the recipe for Jake’s favorite cake.
Woman: Oh, aren't you sweet.
Ruth: Oh. Mia.
Mia: Hello, Ruth.
Jake: Mia, can we talk in private?
Ruth: Mia doesn't know?
Jake: Listen, um --
Mia: Know what?
Jake: I was going to -- I wanted to talk to you tonight.
Mia: No, no, Jake, tell me here.
Kendall: Hi, Palmer. Listen, sorry to interrupt.
Palmer: You're not packing any guns or sharp objects, are you?
Erica: Very funny. What's your news?
Kendall: Lena was at Fusion.
Erica: Oh, no. Don't tell me that Fusion has hired her.
Kendall: Oh, God, no. No, no, no, she polkaed in to announce she had a new job.
Erica: Well, that means that she can renew her work visa.
Kendall: Yes, and stay in Pine Valley.
Erica: Oh, no! I don't believe it.
Palmer: Isn't Lena cooperating with Jackson’s investigation?
Erica: Yeah, well, only to save her own skin.
Palmer: Well, if she's so necessary to bring Michael down, why are you trying to run her out of town?
Erica: Because Lena won't leave Bianca alone.
Kendall: And Bianca is totally falling for Lena again.
Palmer: Are you two plotting against Bianca?
Erica: No, believe me, there is no plot, no plot whatsoever. Lena wormed her way into Bianca’s life, used her, and then broke her heart. And now Lena’s coming back for more. Guess what -- I won't allow it.
Palmer: Well, what does Bianca want?
Erica: Bianca is --
Kendall: Bianca's so confused, she doesn't know what she wants.
Palmer: Oh, spoken like an expert. So you thought that you would save Bianca?
Erica: Well, I'm her mother, Palmer. I have to save her.
Palmer: But trying to run Lena out of the country -- that's rather extreme, isn't it?
Erica: I will do anything to protect my daughter, Palmer.
Tad: Ok, you're right. I am here because of what happened at Dixie’s memorial service.
Jack: Tad, please, please don't make a scene. I'm begging you not to.
Tad: Just hear me out, ok?
Tad: As far as I'm concerned, I didn't just lose a wife, I lost a baby girl. Now, to David, Kate was just some spot on a sonogram. But to me, she was every bit as real, and always will be, as Leora is to him. Now, I don't think I could've gotten through something like that without the love of my friends, including you. And I very much want to be a part of that for Anna.
Jack: And Anna needs that kind of love right now. But if Hayward walks in here and he goes ballistic, what good does it do?
Tad: Hey, I’m not responsible for what David does or doesn't do.
Jack: Tad, listen to me, listen to me. You know that Hayward blames you and your father for what happened to Leora.
Tad: We didn't do anything wrong.
Jack: I believe that, but at least your dad had the courtesy not to show up here. Now, if you really care about Anna, if you really give a damn about her peace of mind, then you should walk out of here right now, my friend.
Tad: I care about her and I'm staying.
Henry: I just wanted to say how sorry I am. I know how much you loved Leora.
Maggie: You know, I saw her first smile. Or maybe it was her second.
Henry: It was something, huh?
Aidan: It's so very unfair, isn't it?
Greenlee: Well, haven't you noticed that God's not really into playing fair?
Janelle: We can't always understand the reason why things happen.
Greenlee: What's to understand?
Anna: I need you to be with me.
Jack: I'll be right there.
Anna: Ok, thank you. Thanks for coming.
Anna: Don't cry. It's all right. Shh. Ok?
Anna: Thanks. Thank you. Thank you for coming. Oh, hi.
Greenlee: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.
Anna: I brought Leora’s bear for her. Is that all right?
Greenlee: Is -- is David with you?
Anna: No, I don't think he's coming.
Jack: You ok? You ok?
Jack: You sure?
Anna: I brought your bear.
Jack: Just sit down, ok? Why don't you sit over here.
Janelle: Listen, the service can wait if you think David will show.
Anna: You should -- you should definitely go ahead, thank you. Thank you.
Janelle: All right.
Mia: You call me up out of the blue after all these months. Um -- oh, my God. I am -- I am such an idiot.
Jake: Mia, this is not how I wanted you to find out about Carolyn.
Jake: I'm not telling you this to hurt you.
Mia: Oh, my God. You cheat on me, you run off, and now you just -- you slink back into town to tell me your good news? What -- what are you thinking? I mean, Jake, why did you call me?
Jake: I called you because I think we both could use some closure.
Mia: Oh, right, right, so you could be on to your next conquest. Ok.
Mia: So why don't you just tell me about her then? Tell me.
Jake: She -- she's someone who I have a lot in common with. We want the same things.
Mia: I thought we wanted the same things.
Jake: Mia, what I did was inexcusable and wrong. I'm not trying to justify it. I'm never going to forgive myself for the mistakes that I made.
Mia: You know, I'm really feeling your pain right now.
Jake: But you need to face the truth.
Mia: What truth?
Jake: You wrecked what we had, Mia, not me.
Erica: Palmer, all I'm doing is trying to protect my daughter from a woman who has no scruples.
Kendall: Yeah, after everything that witch has done to her, Bianca’s actually willing to give her a second chance.
Palmer: Well, sometimes people deserve a second chance.
Erica: Well, not this woman and not with my daughter. Are you sure that Lena has been hired?
Kendall: Yeah, right down to the assigned parking spot.
Erica: But it has to be the right kind of job.
Kendall: Well, how about financial analyst?
Erica: How could this happen? I mean, her face has been plastered all over the news as a major player in -- in a corporate scandal. I mean, who in their right mind would even hire her?
Kendall: Greenlee's grandfather.
Erica: Woodruff? I mean, Woodruff makes his employees pass a white-glove test before they're even allowed in the door. I mean, what on earth would possess him to hire Lena Kundera? She's a fraud.
Kendall: Yeah, he did it as a favor for her.
Palmer: Are you sure Greenlee was involved in this?
Kendall: Yes, absolutely.
Palmer: And where are you going?
Erica: Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Kendall.
[soft music plays]
Janelle: Leora taught us so many things. She showed us courage before she was even born, so determined to know this world and to know the people who loved her. She was a miracle who lit up even the darkest corners of our hearts. We may have lost an angel to heaven, but the joy she brought will live within us forever. Let's celebrate Leora’s life by sharing her love and her light together.
Singer: A man is placed upon the steps a baby cries high above you can hear the church bells start to ring and as the heaviness oh, the heaviness the body settles in somewhere you can hear a mother sing then it's one foot then the other as you step out on the road of hope step out on the road how much weight? How much? Then it's how long and how far and how many times oh before it's too late?
Singers: Calling all angels calling all angels walk me through this one don't leave me alone calling all angels calling all angels
Mia: You're blaming me because you couldn't keep your pants on. That's -- that's classy. I loved you.
Jake: No, you didn't, Mia.
Mia: How can you say that? How can you say that? We were going to be married.
Jake: A marriage you kept postponing.
Mia: Yeah, I know, because Fusion was just getting started and things were happening.
Jake: Mia, you didn't want to marry me. Fusion was just an excuse.
Mia: That is so not true. That is just not true. I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you.
Jake: Well, maybe once you did. I just -- I think that once you had your fall, it just changed everything. I -- I think that you nearly dying made you think about what you really wanted, and what you really didn't want was me.
Mia: You make all of that sound so incredibly selfish.
Jake: Mia, it is what it is. You -- you wanted the freedom to test yourself, and there's probably nothing wrong with that, but I resented it.
Mia: I -- I didn't want to rush into a marriage so that someone could solve my problems. I wanted to solve them for myself.
Jake: Exactly. And I think the more strength you found in yourself, the more you pushed me away.
Mia: I never meant to.
Jake: And the angrier I got.
Mia: Well, when you proposed to me, I was on top of the world.
Jake: We both were. I think it was -- it was a really happy ending for both of us.
Mia: That night I thought we found it. I did.
Jake: It's still there to be had. Just with other people.
Mia: Right. Right. Carolyn. I can't be happy for you.
Jake: I don't expect you to be happy. Mia, I just wanted you to know that --
Joe: May not feel like it, but you did the right thing.
Kendall: I'm not up to anything.
Palmer: Of course you are. This Cambias brouhaha united you with Erica, for the moment, at least, but now you are determined to see it go further.
Kendall: So what's wrong with that? The bond is real, Palmer. I saved Erica from being raped and she saved me. Don't you see how huge that is?
Palmer: I know you've always wanted a relationship with Erica.
Kendall: What about you? You've been pushing for this forever. You even tried to use the Fusion lease to get us together. And now that Erica and I finally have something, why are you being so negative?
Palmer: Because you have a way of pushing things until they explode in your face. You cannot force Erica into a relationship and expect it to thrive.
Kendall: I'm just trying to make it work.
Palmer: At what cost?
Kendall: Palmer, I thought you'd be happy for me.
Leora: Why are you being so silly? Aren't you going to talk?
David: My angel baby. I love you so much.
Leora: I love you this much, Daddy.
David: Do you know that before you were born, I used to sing to you? And I would dream of the time that would come that I could hold you in my arms. And then that day came that I literally touched your heart, and you became a part of mine forever. My God. I miss you so much.
Leora: But Daddy, I'm right here.
Mia: Happily freaking after.
Mia: Who needs it anyway? Not me. I don't need it. I don't need anything. Oh. Oh, it's you.
Kendall: I haven't turned on Greenlee.
Palmer: Oh, please. You ratted on her like a schoolyard snitch.
Kendall: I was trying to help Bianca.
Palmer: You were trying to win points with Erica.
Kendall: Listen, Erica has a right to know what Greenlee did.
Palmer: Fine. So you were so eager to give her up?
Kendall: So? So what?
Palmer: It seems to me that in between your catfights, Greenlee protected your back more than once.
Kendall: Listen, I'm just looking out for my family, ok? Family comes first.
Kendall: Isn't that what everyone always says?
Palmer: Well, as, you know -- what, at the expense of turning on your friend Greenlee?
Kendall: All I did was --
Palmer: Was to point Erica at her next target.
Kendall: But, Palmer --
Palmer: Now, you know that Erica is not going to let this rest, not when she is desperate to find a focus on something other than the terrible blows that she's suffered.
Carlos: Are you all right?
Greenlee: Oh. Not really.
Carlos: Simone said you were at --
Greenlee: Leora barely had a chance to --
Carlos: Is there anything I can do?
Greenlee: Actually -- look at all these responses. I mean, this place would fall apart without me. From you?
Carlos: No, they're from Lena. She got them for you because you helped her get the job, for your generosity.
Greenlee: She actually said that?
Greenlee: What are you smiling at?
Carlos: I see the heart you won't admit you have.
Greenlee: Uh, I hate to break it to you, but I didn't help Lena because my heart's so darn big. I did it to cause trouble.
Carlos: Trouble? Trouble for who?
Anna: You know, I want to thank you so much for helping, and what you said was really, really beautiful.
Janelle: Look, if you need anything --
Anna: I know, I know.
Janelle: I'm worried about David.
Anna: Yeah. Me, too.
Aidan: Are you sure there's nothing you need?
Anna: Oh, no. Just you being here was enough.
Aidan: I can wait around if you want.
Anna: Uh-uh. I need to be alone with David. Thanks.
Aidan: Ok. I'll call you later.
Anna: Yeah. Bye.
Anna: Do you want to stay for a while?
Anna: David, what?
David: Why was he here?
David: Tad. Why did he come?
Anna: No. You can't do this now.
David: To gloat?
Anna: This is certainly not the time.
David: To do a victory dance over Leora’s casket?
Anna: Oh, David.
David: My daughter is dead because of him and his father. They ripped her out of my life.
Anna: I know you need to feel angry at someone, but this --
David: No, don't, don't. Don't patronize me.
Anna: I'm not patronizing you! We have just lost our child.
David: Yes, yes, that's right! And the Martins got what they wanted!
Anna: What are you talking about?
David: Their sick revenge scheme.
Anna: What revenge?
David: They've always hated me.
Anna: You have to stop this.
David: Because Dixie loved me, because Dixie chose me over Tad. And all this time they've been trying to find some way to destroy my life. They finally found it. They killed my little girl.
Anna: That's crazy. Tad and Joe, they didn't kill her.
David: Oh, of course you would say that! Because you always know what's right!
Anna: No, I don't, not anymore.
David: Well, it's a little late for you not to be sure.
Anna: You're blaming me? So it's me or Tad or Joe? It's not you. It's never you.
David: No. I will not blame myself for being the one person that genuinely tried to save her life.
Anna: You should have protected her. You should've done what was best for her.
David: I did!
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Jake: Tad, this is Carolyn, my fiancée.
Tad: Are you out of your mind?
Mia: There is something that you could do for me, actually.
David: You signed our daughter's death certificate, Anna. I just wish you would've killed me, too.
Greenlee: Maybe we should just end this now, before you're my next target.
