All My Children Transcript Friday 5/2/03
Proofread by Alicia
Erica: Oh, Jack. Maybe this is all my fault. If I had accepted your marriage proposal, you would have been with me. Maybe none of this ever would have happened. Jack, if you don't come back to me, I swear Iíll never forgive myself.
Michael: Oh, what a coincidence that you were with Erica when she needed you. Or maybe it was just divine intervention.
Kendall: I couldn't let her get behind the wheel of a car after getting the news, could I?
Michael: You were driving her?
Michael: So you were on your way to see her after you and I just made that deal. Is that right?
Kendall: You're having a lot of fun trying to make me squirm. You don't see me squirming, do you? So what's your problem?
Greenlee: You think this is funny, don't you? I changed my outfit three times. Picked up the phone twice to call off the date. But I know this is ok, that you still love me. And I'll always, always love you. Nothing can change that, no matter what happens --
[knock on door]
Maggie: Are you sure about this?
Henry: I called. She knows we're coming.
Maggie: Ok, the last time we were here, your mother really wasn't --
Henry: She'll adjust, ok? Besides, my uncle thinks you're good for me.
Maggie: Your mother doesn't, ok? Last time we were here, she made that really clear, and I just don't want to cause problems between the two of you.
Henry: Look, you're not. Come on, you've been totally great to me, and not just because you got me playing at S.O.S.
Maggie: It's not just because of that?
Henry: Well, yeah, that changed my life totally. You know? I mean, just being able to hear my music and seeing what it could mean to other people --
Maggie: It still amazes me that you never realized how talented you are, what a gift you have.
Henry: Well, Maggie, you made me see that there are other passions in my life besides medicine.
Maggie: Like playing the blues?
Henry: Like holding you.
Maggie: Can I tell you something? I -- you know, right now probably isn't the best time to tell you.
Henry: All right, go on.
Chris: Look, Aidan, you have every right to suspect me, but I did not do this.
Aidan: And what does that mean? That you weren't the guy that pulled the trigger?
Chris: I don't want to talk about this right now.
Aidan: Why not? Because you're too upset about Jackson being shot?
Chris: Yeah. Yeah. Something like that.
Aidan: But I heard you talking to your lowlife friend Flanders, Chris. You asked him how much it would cost to take care of Jackson.
Chris: Listen -- I made it perfectly clear to him that I was not giving him an order. And if you were listening, you should remember that. And I told him repeatedly, "do not do anything stupid." You should remember that, too.
Aidan: Well, maybe you changed your mind.
Aidan: You told Flanders there was one last thing you were going to try before you put anything into motion.
Chris: That's right, and I went and I spoke to Jackson face to face because I wanted to give him a last chance.
Aidan: Last chance to do what, Chris?
Chris: To stay away from Erica. To let it go, to let her go.
Aidan: At the community center, you were in his face and you looked like you was going to kill him.
Chris: Let me tell you something. If I wanted him dead, he'd be dead.
Aidan: But he almost is.
Chris: So, what do you want from me?
Aidan: Before you left, you told him that he had one chance to walk away clean and that he should remember that.
Chris: People -- people say things when they're angry, when they're mad.
Aidan: And then you left and you went over to meet Flanders and you discussed with him how great this world would be without Jackson.
Chris: No, Flanders -- he's got his own -- his own agenda with him.
Aidan: Why? Because he put Flanders' brother away for armed robbery?
Chris: That's right.
Aidan: So what are you saying? That he acted alone?
Chris: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Aidan: Then tell me this, Chris. Is there any way that you could be responsible for this?
Kendall: Michael, we cannot work together unless you trust me.
Michael: Trust you? Well, let's see, the first time that you see Lena, you can't resist a little dig. What was it -- "tell Michael that I said hello"? You wanted her to know that you knew about us. Why is that?
Kendall: I felt she had a part of you that belonged to me. I was jealous. Sue me.
Michael: Actually, I'd rather hear what you were doing with Erica.
Kendall: Fine. I had to make sure that Erica didn't suspect Lena was your mole.
Michael: And what was your conclusion?
Kendall: Well, Lenaís cover story is working beautifully. Erica things that Barton what's-his-name really engineered the lawsuit against Fusion.
Michael: Hmm. Sure was -- it was brilliant of my Lena to concoct that little piece of fiction, wasn't it?
Kendall: On your orders, right?
Kendall: Does she always do what she's told?
Michael: Without question.
Greenlee: How did you know I love yellow roses?
Carlos: Well, you -- you tried to get them so hard, like, for the Fusion party.
Greenlee: Yeah, I called every florist in town, and every single one of them was out of yellow roses.
Carlos: I remember. I want you to know that I'm really happy to be here.
Greenlee: It took us long enough.
Carlos: Sometimes waiting is nice.
Greenlee: I'll put these in water. Oh, do you want some wine?
Carlos: Oh, yes, please.
Greenlee: Um --
Carlos: I'll open the bottle.
Greenlee: I'll get a vase.
Carlos: All right.
Carlos: Ok. All right.
Carlos: I put it in backwards. Come on! "I'll open the bottle." Oh, hell. Come on. Come on, stupid --
Greenlee: No problema?
Carlos: Ninguna. You must have gone to a lot of trouble with all this.
Greenlee: Oh, not really. The dinner is courtesy of chef Marcel of the Valley Inn, and the crystal and the china, from my mother. Unused wedding presents, so --
Carlos: Must be hard for you to have me here like this.
Greenlee: No, no, it isn't. It isn't, really. I know in my soul that Leo wouldn't have a problem with this. And he'd think it's a huge waste of time to make it all complicated, and so do I.
Carlos: I'm glad and relieved to hear that.
Greenlee: I'm here with you now, and it's the right thing.
Carlos: Thank you for inviting me to dinner.
Greenlee: Thank you for accepting. I was surprised to see you at Lysistrata's yoga class.
Carlos: Well, you know, I wouldn't have gone if Simone hadn't dragged me there. And she did mention you might be going, so --
Greenlee: So you didn't know what you were getting yourself into?
Carlos: Not at all.
Greenlee: Neither did I. Obviously. I'm, like, breathing deeply one minute, and the next minute I'm a blubbering heap.
Carlos: Well, it was good that you cried.
Greenlee: Nah, I don't do things like that.
Carlos: No, your body was just telling yourself to let go, and -- and you felt better afterwards, didn't you?
Greenlee: Yeah. Yeah. A lot better.
Carlos: We kissed.
Greenlee: Maybe that had something to do with me feeling better.
Carlos: I think yoga's good for you. I know it's good for me.
Greenlee: Yeah, it probably made you hungry, and everything's ready, so -- excuse me.
Carlos: "So, you're looking beautiful today." "The weather is --" come on. Think. Don't be stupid.
Greenlee: Here we go.
Carlos: Mmm-mmm-mmm. Smells wonderful. What's wrong?
Greenlee: I don't know. Suddenly this table -- it's --
Carlos: What? What about it?
Greenlee: Well, it's sort of formal and stuffy -- just like my grandparents, Millicent and Woodruff.
Maggie: Your stomach is growling.
Henry: I know, and I was trying to be romantic.
Maggie: Ok, yeah, yeah. Maybe on a full stomach you'll do better.
Henry: Ok, so let's eat quick and go.
Maggie: Ok, fine. I'm going to go to the bathroom first.
Henry: I'm going to go find --
Henry: Hey, Mom.
Henry: Yeah, I'm starving. Hey, could we speak English, please?
Alma: Fine. I'll make you up a dish.
Henry: No, actually, I'm here with --
Alma: Oh, by the way, I understand you were a big hit at some sort of nightclub.
Henry: A nightclub?
Henry: Um -- no, it --
Alma: Oh. It wasn't your debut performance?
Henry: Well, yeah, but just not in a nightclub. It was just -- how do you know?
Alma: Customer told me that she saw you there playing the guitar. I had to pretend that I knew about it.
Henry: Well, it wasn't a big deal.
Alma: I'm sure it wasn't. Did you enjoy yourself?
Henry: I had a great time. So did everyone else.
Alma: Oh. The lady also said that I must be very proud of my son, the guitar player. Why didn't you tell me?
Henry: What for, hmm? Would you come hear me play?
Alma: Unfortunately, I had too much work here to do.
Henry: Well, so then why tell you, huh? Would you wish me well?
Michael: Lena's current assignment is to get Bianca into bed. Trust me, it's not an unpleasant one.
Kendall: So Lena is going to seduce Bianca so that she'll go after Boydís priceless formula?
Michael: Mm-hmm. Which, of course, you were supposed to but failed.
Kendall: Well, what makes you think Bianca will do any better?
Michael: Because Bianca is Boydís good friend, and, unlike you, she's trustworthy. He won't know what hit him.
Kendall: Do you have any idea how much this will hurt Bianca?
Michael: Oh, please, don't pretend you actually care about her.
Kendall: It's just Bianca has had a lot to go through in her life.
Michael: Oh, that's true. That poor little thing -- anorexic lesbian with a narcissistic mother. Hmm. Hey, you know, this is America, so in no time at all she'll be writing a book and doing all the talk shows. You know, Kendall, if you're going to play me, you should try to make sure that I don't actually see those little wheels of yours spinning in your head.
Kendall: I'm not trying to play you. It's just that I don't think Bianca deserves to get her heart broken.
Aidan: I don't care what's going on between you and your conscience. All I wanted to know is whether you hired Flanders to shoot Jack.
Chris: Of course I didn't.
Aidan: So you came to your senses and told Flanders to back off?
Chris: Yeah, well, I also told him how much -- what I wanted to do to the man who cost me the woman that I love. Look, I'm a federal agent. I practically handed that guy a blueprint.
Aidan: "Practically" doesn't mean anything. Did you ask him to go after Jack?
Chris: He knew I hated him. I blamed him for everything that happened in my life. I hate him with a vengeance.
Aidan: Yeah, well, I know what that's like.
Chris: There's no comparison, Aidan. The woman you loved was murdered by a sadist. The woman I love chose another man before me. Do you -- do you know how long it's been since I felt anything? Erica -- she -- she woke me up. She made my life more than just a badge and a gun. I -- I could have blamed her for everything, but I didn't because I -- I still love her. So I blamed him. And God help me, I wanted him gone. I wanted him dead!
Erica: You did this?
Erica: You did this? You shot Jack because I left you?
Chris: No, no, I didn't, Erica.
Erica: But I just heard you. I heard you confess.
Chris: I said I wanted him dead, and I never would have done anything about it. Not to hurt him, not to hurt you.
Erica: How could I possibly believe that after what I just heard? Oh, my God. I came to you, I told you that Jack was missing, and you told me that you didn't know anything about it.
Chris: Erica, I didn't know anything about it.
Erica: Of course you did. You knew exactly where he was, and you knew exactly what was happening to him! But you stood there and you just pretended to be concerned!
Chris: No, I didn't know that he was hurt. I swear to God I didn't know.
Erica: You said that you wanted him dead! You shot him and left him to die. My God, how could I have been so wrong about you?
Kendall: Of course I want Enchantment.
Michael: Mm-hmm. So, you said you wanted to see if Erica suspected Lena of being disloyal. Well, what about you? Didn't she think it was rather strange that you would stop by her office asking all these questions?
Kendall: Sure, but I -- I told her I was there to tell her she was right. And Erica was only too happy to believe me.
Michael: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Right about what?
Kendall: You. That you had some ulterior motive in dating me. She'd been saying that since Aspen. So she felt superior, and it was very easy for her to see how much I despise you now.
Michael: That's good. That's good. Very impressive, very impressive. Actually, you know, I think I'm going to believe you because I just sort of like the vision of you standing in front of Erica degrading yourself. You know, and that, plus that if you're lying to me, Iíll make you pay.
Kendall: Oh, screw this. Screw this. I don't have to put up with this abuse, not for 10 Enchantments. If I have to justify myself every time I do something, I can take down Erica on my own. I don't need you.
Maggie: Hi, Mrs. Chin. I am really looking forward to another wonderful dinner here.
Alma: I hope you're hungry. The prawns are excellent tonight.
Henry: You know what? I lost my appetite. Maggie, you want to go somewhere else?
[Alma speaks Chinese]
Henry: No, no, speak English. Maggie doesn't understand Chinese. You promised you'd be nice to her.
Alma: Maggie is not a part of this.
Henry: Yes, she is. She's my girlfriend, and I care about her. Now, if you're going to start --
Alma: We're understaffed. I have to get back to work.
Henry: Don't walk away!
Maggie: Henry, you know, let's just go --
Henry: Look, there's more to life than studying and taking tests. I'm drowning in my classes in books. I have to come up for air once in a while.
Alma: With girls? With guitar playing? You'll have plenty of time for that later.
Henry: How much later, huh? What, when Iím 30? 40? What if I wake up one day and everything's just passed me by? What if I wake up one morning and all I have to look forward to is working in the back kitchen and busing tables all day?
Maggie: Henry, don't.
Henry: Look, you don't have to try. I mean, can't you see how much she means to me, how much I care about her?
Alma: I can see all too well. I have nothing against this girl. I'm sure she is very nice.
Henry: No, no, look, Maggie is right here. Do not talk about her like she's not even real.
Alma: Henry, listen, I -- I do not want to have this discussion here in front of the customers.
Henry: So what's your excuse when we're at home, huh, and you have to leave the room every time there's something you don't want to hear?
Alma: All right, since you're intent on telling me something important, fine. What? That you have a girlfriend? That you are going to be -- that she's telling you you're going to be a big star playing the guitar?
Henry: That's not fair.
Alma: But that's it, right, what you want to say?
Maggie: Henry? Um -- why don't we just go? We -- I'm sorry.
Alma: Henry, it is my duty to tell you the truth, just as it's your duty to study hard and avoid the distractions.
Henry: That's all you think life is, don't you? Duty and doing the things that you hate.
Alma: That's the life I have led, yes, so that yours could be different.
Henry: No, look, Mom, I don't think you know anything about life or about love. And if you want to keep me from being happy, I don't think you love me at all.
Greenlee: I wonder if chef Marcel knows that his food tastes so much better on the floor.
Carlos: Well, your grandmother doesn't have to know.
Greenlee: Oh, I could just see the look of horror on her face. She channels Martha Stewart. Martha Stewart is --
Carlos: I know -- you're aunt. I'm just playing.
Greenlee: I knew that. It's just your face. You know, I believe anything you say.
Carlos: Well, then Iíve talked too much, and, anyway, I want to know more about Greenlee's poor rich childhood.
Greenlee: Oh, that's very clever, but I actually want to know more about you.
Carlos: No. No. No, no. You are far more interesting.
Greenlee: Hmm -- that's not what your emails say. Anyone that can use words to -- to express their feelings like that --
Carlos: Well, the feelings are genuine.
Greenlee: Wish I had a creative outlet. You know, a way to express myself other than --
Carlos: Stamping your feet and screaming all the time?
Greenlee: I was going to say my wildly successful -- moderately successful cosmetics business. I do not stamp my feet and scream.
Carlos: I know. I know underneath that armor lies an angel.
Greenlee: You said that once in one of your emails.
Carlos: You're an angel, an angel only I can see.
Michael: Relax, Kendall, you're doing well. I'm -- Iím proud of you.
Kendall: You can't imagine how much that means to me.
Michael: Well, listen, just don't get too smart. No more strategic moves without telling me first?
Bianca: Oh, excuse me? I'm looking for Dr. Joe martin. He's taking care of my uncle, Jackson Montgomery.
Kendall: Now, is there anything else?
Michael: No. I think we understand each other.
Kendall: Bianca, what's going on? Is Jackson all right?
Bianca: Oh, he's -- he's still unconscious. I'm more worried about mom right now. I don't know how she's going to react if he wakes up and something's wrong.
Kendall: Something -- something wrong like what?
Bianca: Well, like -- he lost a lot of blood. And they don't even know how long he was in that alley before he was found, so --
Kendall: Oh, Bianca, I'm sorry.
Bianca: You know what, Kendall? Just save it.
Kendall: Look, I'm only trying to --
Bianca: What, to comfort me? Why?
Kendall: What do you mean, why?
Bianca: What, because you're my sister and you love me?
Kendall: No, you feel bad.
Bianca: Well, as bad as I feel right now, I imagine that Boyd felt even worse when you were through with him. I mean, you pretended to care about him for your own selfish reasons. What you did was really low, Kendall.
Kendall: What if I had a really good reason for doing what I did?
Erica: Look what you've done. The man I love, the man I've always loved is lying there in a coma, and you put him there!
Chris: Erica, I swear I never wanted this to happen.
Erica: Jack may never wake up. Do you understand that? And if he does, he may never be the same -- because of you. Because of you.
Chris: Erica --
Erica: No, don't -- don't come near me. You stay away from me. You stay away from us. I swear I never want to see your face again.
Aidan: Erica, you must remain strong. Jack will open his eyes soon.
Erica: You know, I laughed -- I actually laughed when Jack tried to warn me that Chris was a threat.
Aidan: Chris didn't do it. He just feels incredibly guilty. He feels responsible somehow, but he's not. If you ask me, there's a lot of guilt going around right now.
Erica: Well, if what happened is because of how Chris felt, then I guess I had something to do with it, too. I guess I'm part of it, too.
Aidan: Now, wait. You're not the cause of this. You didn't pull the trigger. What I want to say is that you can't blame Chris for this because it's not going to solve anything.
Erica: But somebody shot Jack.
Aidan: Yeah, somebody did shoot Jack.
Erica: But who? I mean, who would do that, and -- and why?
Maggie: Hey, hey. We can't leave until you talk to your mother.
Henry: But she's too angry to hear anything I have to say.
Maggie: Well, you have to try. I mean, you can't leave like this.
Henry: I guess -- you know, my whole life I've accepted the dreams that she's had for me. So what about my dreams, huh?
Maggie: What are they?
Henry: One of them has already come true.
Maggie: Yeah, it happened all of a sudden, didn't it?
Henry: It was the last thing I was looking for. Well, you know how I fought it.
Maggie: Yeah, you did.
Henry: Hey, but we're together now, and you're on my side. The furthest possible thing from a distraction.
Maggie: Hey, we'll -- we'll show your mom.
Henry: I don't know if we can. I mean, like, I'm sorry that Iíve disappointed her. I mean, she has worked her whole life, just like she said. But I'm not the person she thinks I am, and now Iíll never be.
Maggie: Henry --
Henry: I'm only the person I see in your eyes.
Maggie: I just want to see you happy.
Henry: I know. Come here. I love you, Maggie, for so many reasons.
Maggie: I love you, too.
Maggie: Let's go.
Henry: Ok. Where?
Greenlee: Hey, hey -- you have to understand something. This is what I want.
Carlos: It's not that --
Greenlee: No, I know, I know. I know. You're thinking of me. You don't want to go too fast. That's how you are. You're honest and -- and good. A grownup. I'm lucky to have met someone like you. And now --
Carlos: Look -- look, you invited me to dinner, and all this has been so special to me, more than I can tell you --
Greenlee: You don't want to make love to me?
Carlos: Oh, no. No, that's not it, Greenlee. That's not it at all.
Greenlee: Before you came here tonight, I reread your emails. Whatever doubts I had completely vanished. And I wish they had for you, too, but -- and that's my fault. You know, the way I treated you, the stupid assumptions I made. And I have no excuse for that, and I'm sorry. I shouldn't have needed those emails to see you for the person that you really are.
Carlos: That's -- no --
Greenlee: No, but I do have them. And I do see you, and I see you for who you are on the inside.
Carlos: Those were just words, Greenlee, just words.
Greenlee: They're beautiful words. They're from your heart, and they went straight into mine.
Kendall: Did you find Lena?
Bianca: Yeah. She went out for takeout.
Kendall: So, is Lena a friend or a girlfriend?
Bianca: Why do you care?
Kendall: I care, Bianca. Will you please answer me?
Bianca: Lena is a girlfriend.
Kendall: Really? So, how long have you been together?
Bianca: Not long, but what we have is real.
Kendall: How do you know that?
Bianca: You know what, Kendall? I really don't want to talk about this with you.
Kendall: Why not?
Bianca: Why do I always have to justify my feelings? I mean, when you're involved in a new relationship with a man, does everybody automatically assume that it's not going to work out? That it'll just burn itself out or -- or, better yet, that whoever he is, he's just going through a phase and once he snaps out of it, he'll realize --
Kendall: No, you know what? I'm not thinking that. I'm not thinking that, ok? I just -- I don't want you to be alone. No matter how we feel about each other, I think you're a good person and you deserve to be with someone.
Bianca: What is this?
Erica: Jack? You can wake up now. The surgery was a success.
Nurse: Ms. Kane? Why don't you take a break?
Erica: Dr. Martin said that they removed the bullet from his chest and there was no major damage. So he could just wake up at any moment now. You know the sooner he regains consciousness, then the better chance he has for a normal -- won't you let me stay, and I can talk to him and maybe I can reach him.
Nurse: Oh, of course. It might help.
Erica: Thank you.
Erica: I'm here, Jack. I told you that I was not going to leave you, and I meant it. I'm right here. You loved me for such a long time. And I depended on your love. And I knew that I could count on your love no matter what happened, no matter who else left me. And no matter what I may have said or may have done, I love you so much. I'm so sorry that I just -- I didn't have the courage to do what my heart was telling me to do. But it's not too late, Jack. It's not too late. I accept your proposal, Jack. For the rest of my life, I will be by your side. Oh, please come back to me. Please. Please come back to me, Jack. Please.
Jack: Do you love me?
Erica: Yes, I do. Jack? Do you know who I am?
Jack: Sure. You're my heart.
Erica: Yes, I am your heart. And you're mine.
Jack: You love me. I heard you.
Erica: I do. Yes, I do. I love you so much.
Jack: You know what they say about deathbed confessions -- you can't take them back.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Carlos: I'm still the man you know me to be.
Greenlee: You're a liar.
Kendall: Jackson is a very important part of this family.
Lena: But you're not.
Simone: This will get us noticed, not arrested. I promise.
Jack: Will you marry me, Erica?
