>> Previously on "All My Children" --

Brooke: I think maybe I know who you are.

Maria: I'm Maureen Gorman.

Barry: You cannot have a wife committed simply because she's no longer convenient.

Adam: She's trying to kill me!

Greenlee: Do you ever, ever, ever stop?

Dr. Spencer: Time of death, 12:35 P.M. I'm sorry.

Greenlee: Answer me, Erica. How could you do this to me?

Erica: Oh, I see you have tomorrow's financial pages.

Greenlee: Don't you dare laugh at me. Don't you dare.

Chris: Hi.

Erica: Hi.

Chris: What's going on here?

Erica: Well, Aidan and I were just finishing up a meeting, and Greenlee -- well, Greenlee's on her way out.

Greenlee: No, I'm not. You trashed me in print and you took delight in it. I want to know why.

Erica: Greenlee, I merely stated the facts. Now, are you so thin-skinned? Because if so, how do you ever expect to survive in the business world?

Greenlee: What did I do to deserve this?

Erica: What did you do? You walked out on me. Did you really think you could do that and nothing would happen to you?

Attendant: All passengers arriving on Flight 44 from Las Vegas, Nevada, may pick up their luggage on carousel one.

Attendant: May I help you?

Brooke: Oh, no, thank you. Thank you. Everything will be fine when I get home.

Edmund: You sure about that?

Brooke: Edmund. Hi. How did you know I would be on this flight?

Edmund: I know everything.

Adam: Liza, you've hardly touched your lunch.

Liza: I'm not hungry.

Adam: Well, you know how I hate to eat alone. I'd appreciate you sitting with me.

Liza: Well, I can watch Colby from in here.

Adam: You don't have to worry about Colby. Marian and Stuart won't be more than two feet away.

Liza: Colby wants to watch our wedding video tonight before bed. She asked me. I think it's sweet. She calls it our fairy tale.

Adam: As long as she's happy, that's all that matters.

Liza: Yeah, I guess that's something we'll always agree on.

Adam: You know, I'm -- I'm going to hate myself, but I've got to have another piece of Lucretia's pumpkin bread. Would you slice me just -- just something small?

Adam: Ah, yes. Mmm, mmm. Mmm. Sinful.

Liza: Stuart's giving Colby diving lessons. It's so sweet. You know, he tried this last week. And then she was kind of scared, you know. Oh, there she went! There she goes. Did you see?

Adam: Uh, yeah. There she goes.

Leo: What is it? Come on. Anna, why the hell did you drag me down here? She's faking it. She's not really in a coma.

Anna: No --

dr. Spencer: No, she's gone. We did everything we could.

Leo: She's dead? My mother's dead? And you knew?

Anna: No, I -- it just happened, Leo. I'm sorry.

David: Leo, I'm sorry.

Leo: Yeah, so is she, so is everybody. She can't be -- she can't be dead! Just like that? Do something! Come on, David, go in there and do something.

Leo: Come on, David, go in there.

David: Leo --

Leo: Just shock her heart back to life.

David: Leo, listen to me. The medical team did everything they could. It's over, Leo.

Trey: How can you be sure? She was alive a minute ago. Can't you at least examine her?

David: Your client has passed away, Mr. Kenyon. You have no business here.

Leo: Yeah, don't worry. Your fee is going to get paid, if that's what you're worried about.

Maggie: Trey, they didn't mean it. They're just in shock.

Trey: It doesn't matter.

Leo: So, she's -- she's really dead, isn't she?

David: Yeah. Look, I know you thought that she would live forever.

Leo: I was -- oh, jeez. I was dreading coming back to this town because I didn't want to deal with all this craziness and -- you know, and -- I wished her dead so many times.

David: I realize this is going to sound really cold, Leo, but the truth is we're better off without her.

Leo: David, how could you say something like that? I mean, she's your mother, too.

David: There was never an ounce of maternal love in that woman, Leo. I mean, come on. You know that. So hold on to that, especially now. She doesn't deserve our tears.

Dr. Spencer: Excuse me. If you'd like to say goodbye to your mother --

David: Thank you, Doctor. Why don't you go ahead?

David: I guess I believed that she would live forever, too. I'm sure glad I was wrong.

[Monitor flatlines]

Leo: Mother. Well, I guess I got what I've been wishing for. You're finally out of my life, right? Forever.

Liza: I think that was Colby's very first dive. I mean, she was very graceful for a little girl.

Adam: Oh, yeah, she's a very lucky little girl, all these doting relatives to watch after her and teach her things. She leads a charmed life.

Liza: Yes, she does.

Adam: Hmm, especially since she has the best mother in the world. Oh, but -- oh, I forgot. I have to look at some spreadsheets before this afternoon's meeting. Excuse me.

Liza: Sure.

Adam: If you're not going to be having any more lunch, I'll have Winifred clear these things.

Liza: Oh, that would be good.

Adam: Good. I'll take care of it right away.

Liza: Tad, please, call me back when you get this message. You know, I think I must be crazy because Adam's not doing anything. I mean, in fact, all he's doing is walking around here saying loving things, and you know what that means. It means he's up to something. Only what?

Liza: My knife. My knife -- where did it go?

Brooke: You do know.

Edmund: Well, you told me you were coming in this morning, and there's only two flights from Nevada that are arriving this morning.

Brooke: You knew I was in Nevada?

Edmund: I have a lot of sources, Brooke. What's strange is that I had to use them to track you down. Can you blame me?

Brooke: No, I canít. Edmund, I -- I should've known that I couldn't keep this from you.

Edmund: Yeah, that's what hurts more than anything, Brooke. Why couldn't you have just told me this a long time ago?

Brooke: I was wrong to lie. I was just so afraid of this moment when I knew I had to tell you everything.

Edmund: Well, it's a little late. I already know.

Brooke: Edmund, there's so much more that I -- I need to tell you.

Edmund: Really? Think I need to know the details? The reasons why? I don't think so. I think I can figure them out.

Brooke: The most important thing I was trying to do, I was just trying to avoid hurting you.

Edmund: Well, too late again.

Brooke: Please, please, just -- just hear me out, okay, because I -- because maybe you won't be so angry then.

Edmund: I would think that you would think that I would deserve a little privacy. Let's go home.

Liza: Tad, it would be great if you could call me back before my mind starts getting carried away with me. I mean, I'm sure that Adam is up to something. I just don't know what it is.

Stuart: [Southern accent] How do you do, Ms. Liza?

Liza: Stuart. Uh, where's Colby?

Stuart: [Normal voice] Oh, no, no, Marian's with Colby. She's fine. She's fine. Marian wanted me to get her Scarlett OíHara hat because she didn't want to get freckles, and I kind of -- I kind of like freckles. But anyway -- [Southern accent] Well, I'll be seeing you under the old magnolia trees. Come on, can't you just cheer up a little? [Normal voice] You ought to see Adam. He's down in the garage. He's whistling to himself. Adam never whistles.

Liza: Adam's in the garage? He was searching for some spreadsheets.

Stuart: Well, he must've spread them out under the convertible because he's down there just tinkering away, happy as a clam -- if clams could whistle.

Liza: What's wrong with the convertible, Stuart? I mean, is there something wrong with it?

Stuart: Well, no, he didn't see me. I was afraid he -- he wouldn't appreciate my chapeau. I think -- I think Marian wants her hat, so, bye-bye.

Liza: Mission accomplished?

Adam: Excuse me?

Liza: The spreadsheets that you were after.

Adam: Oh, oh, yes, the spreadsheets. I think they must be in my office. Excuse me.

Liza: Oh, wait. I -- I can't let you go.

Adam: Why not?

Liza: You have something on your collar. What is this?

Adam: I don't know.

Liza: It's grease of some kind.

Adam: Oh. Oh, the -- the grandfather clock is 10 minutes fast. Must've been some oil on the -- on the minute hand when I moved it.

Liza: Oh, yeah. You have a household full of servants to help you with something like that.

Adam: Well, I don't wait for other people, Liza. You know that. We can only count on ourselves to put things right.

Liza: Well, that's absolutely true.

Adam: So I've got to go change my shirt. Thank you for pointing it out.

Liza: Couldn't be more right, Adam. I can only count on myself.

Erica: Now, Chris mentioned something about the electrical wiring?

Aidan: Yeah. With the changes Chris made, we're going to be up to code, but it's going to cost you a lot, lot more.

Chris: You really, really have to do this, sweetie.

Erica: Well, I trust you, Chris, but I don't know about you. Are you going to rob me blind?

Aidan: Of course not.

Erica: Well, all right, then. Let there be light. Thank you.

Chris: You're welcome.

Kendall: Jeez, this really is a hatchet job. You can't let her get away with this.

Greenlee: She won't get away with it.

Kendall: Well, not if you stand up to her. Nobody ever stands up to her. Look, look, she's leaving.

Greenlee: I'm not through with you.

Erica: Oh, yes, Greenlee, you're through.

Chris: Greenlee, after that article, the last thing you need is a public scene, so --

Greenlee: I wouldn't dream of it. I merely want to inform you that I intend to sue you for slander. I have access to corporate lawyers just like you.

Erica: But there's not one comma in that entire article that isn't the gospel truth.

Greenlee: They love me there. I had lots of great ideas.

Erica: Great ideas? Great ideas are a dime a dozen. The bottom line is what's really important. Then, of course, there are all those scandals that you caused -- the catfight at the fashion show and that fiasco of a wedding of yours with honest-to-God gunfire?

Chris: Okay --

Greenlee: My father died as a result of that gunfire.

Erica: I know. And believe me, I am truly sorry about your father. I really am. But this is business.

Greenlee: Business? It's payback. But as far as I'm concerned, you broke our contract first. You demoted me and you made me Kendallís assistant.

Erica: Which, by contract, I had every right to do. I could've made you clean the grout in the executive bathroom had I wanted to. Actually, now, that is what I might have you do when you come back to Enchantment.

Greenlee: You wouldn't.

Erica: No, you see, the point is, Greenlee, we are both right -- this is business and payback.

Greenlee: What are you going to do?

Erica: Did you think that one measly little newspaper article was going to make us even? Oh, Greenlee. Oh, no, you have no idea what I have in store for you.

Edmund: Let's just get home.

Brooke: Edmund, wait. I saw what you went through when Maria died, and I just didn't want you to go through pain like that again. That's why I kept this from you.

Edmund: Well, it didn't work out. I found you out.

Brooke: I know that. I know that. And I -- I can't wait a second longer, so what -- what's going to happen now?

Edmund: I don't know. You going to let me decide? You're the one who lies to me. You're the one who's just kept lying.

Brooke: I told you before I -- I was afraid of losing you.

Edmund: Okay, well, you're really going to have to explain this to me, Brooke. Make me understand how we still have a chance at making this work.

Brooke: When we get home --

Edmund: No, no, no! Right now. You tell me this right now. Why in God's name do you keep lying to me?

Brooke: I told you! Maria!

Trey: They hate her guts, yet they're the only ones allowed near her?

Maggie: Even if they don't want to, they still have to pay their respects. They are her sons.

Trey: And you're her niece. Don't let me keep you.

Maggie: No. No, thanks, though I will be available as a witness if they want to put her in a body bag and throw her in the city dump. I'm sorry; I'm a little bitter. You know, my aunt was very lucky to have you care for her like you did.

Trey: Yeah, and as I said, I didn't do a very good job for her.

Maggie: Trey, you'll have lots of other clients. Don't worry about it.

Trey: Vanessa was more than a client. Why can't everybody just realize that?

[Monitor flatlines]

David: I'm sorry I said what I did to you earlier. You have every right to grieve for her.

Leo: No, man, you were right. I'd be the biggest hypocrite in the world if I went on about how much I was going to miss her. It's the best thing that could've happened for me and Greenlee. I can make a life for myself now. We are going to make it.

David: I freed myself from you a long time ago. Now Leo is free, too.

Leo: There were a lot of good memories, too. And I can laugh at the -- the ones I remember. Sneaking out of hotel without paying, and you doing your starlet routine and charming the pants off the house detective.

David: Well, at least you have some good memories, Leo.

Leo: You do, too. You just buried them. Oh, come on, David, you can say one good thing about your mother.

David: When I was a kid, she was very beautiful.

Leo: Yeah, she was. And she had a talent for making people feel very important.

David: Yeah. Well, let's not forget it was for her own purposes always.

Leo: Even so -- even so, when she did decide to notice you, you felt like you were some kind of a king. You got to admit that. Even when she had less than a penny in her purse, she made an event out of anything, like eating a bowl of ice cream.

David: Burgundy cherry.

Leo: That was her favorite. David, you don't have to be afraid, man. You were right. We're free.

David: Good-bye, Mother. Game's over. Looks like we won.

Leo: I guess so. We won.

Leo: Aah!

David: Well, that's that, I guess.

Anna: How's Leo?

David: He wanted to stay in there, take a moment to think about the good times. I believe it's going to be a very short moment.

Trey: What kind of person are you? Your mother just died and you sit out here making snide remarks?

David: Well, you see, that's because this is a hospital and cartwheels aren't allowed.

Maggie: That was a good one. I'm sorry, but -- ahem.

Leo: She's back.

Chris: Erica, Aidan and I are going to talk electricity while you deal with the ladies.

Erica: Okay.

Greenlee: I'd rather end up in a hair net slinging burgers.

Erica: Well, that would always be an option for you because once the industry digests this article, I think your only chance in the cosmetics business will be with me.

Greenlee: But why? You can't possibly hate me that much.

Erica: Greenlee, I don't hate you. I want to get as much out of you as I can.

Greenlee: You can't afford to have me at Enchantment.

Erica: Think of all the goodwill, Greenlee, that I will generate when I forgive your base betrayal and I lift you up from the gutter. Well, it'll put a human face on Enchantment and our sales will soar. Not to mention the fact that the tiles in our bathroom will be sparkling white, just like my teeth.

Greenlee: You can't do this to me, Erica. You can't ruin my life like this.

Erica: Oh, Greenlee, you are so easy. Do you really think that for all the goodwill in the whole wide world I could stand to look at you every day at Enchantment? I would pay to keep you away.

Greenlee: You're an evil woman, Erica.

Erica: Yeah, and don't forget it.

Erica: Sure. Now Aidan, do you have anything else me?

Aidan: Not I. I'm cool.

Erica: Okay.

Kendall: What you just did to Greenlee was terrible. Someday, Erica -- someday you are going to meet your match.

Erica: Maybe, but I doubt you'll live that long.

Adam: Barry, in about an hour, you're going to get a call from the police telling you that I've been an automobile accident and that I asked to call my lawyer, Mr. Shire. Now -- no, I'm not going to fake it, Barry. Now, listen, the car -- the car's brakes will fail. Because I cut the brake lines, that's why. If we're going to make Liza look homicidal, there has to be a little danger involved. No, no, no, no. I promise I'll find a nice safe, soft place to crash into. Now, when you get to the hospital, we're going to have an argument. You're going to insist that I tell the police everything I know, and you're going to say it loud enough for the cops to hear you. And then I will be forced against my will to confess that prior to my accident, my wife was trying to kill me.

Edmund: What does Maria have to do with this?

Brooke: You just -- you just said you knew why I was in Nevada.

Edmund: I knew you were in a motel room again with Tad again in Nevada. I know you're not following some story lead.

Brooke: Oh. Tad.

Edmund: Where is he, by the way? Is he taking a later plane?

Brooke: No. No. Is that why you're so angry? You know that Tad and I are not having some tryst in Nevada. I mean, why would --

Edmund: Well, then what are you having? Why do you keep going to Nevada with Tad? To help him some more? What?

Brooke: No! No! He wasn't -- he wasn't in Nevada because he needed help, and I wasn't -- he was helping me.

Edmund: Helping -- help you what?

Brooke: He's helping me to find Maria.

Edmund: What are you telling me now?

Brooke: I didn't want to have to tell you this. I went to Nevada and Tad came with me to help to track down Maria. When Mariaís name came up as the perfect match for Enzo's transplant, there was also that other woman, you remember, that was also a perfect match -- Maureen Gorman. And I got a lot of information on her and I also got a description of her, and I began to think that there was a chance that Maria was alive. And I know -- I know how this must sound, Edmund. I --

Edmund: Is she alive? Tell me!

Adam: Liza, where's my car?

Liza: Which car?

Adam: The convertible. I wanted to take -- it was in the garage. It's gone.

Liza: Take another one.

Adam: No, no, another one won't do. I need -- I need the convertible. Who took it?

Liza: I have no idea.

Adam: Where's Stuart? Stuart!

Liza: Oh, you know, I -- my memory -- seriously, I don't even know what's the matter. J.R. took it.

Adam: What? When?

Liza: Oh, well, he was having problems with his car -- you know how dangerous that can be -- and he asked to borrow --

Adam: My convertible?

Liza: No, no, he asked to borrow a car, and I said, "Why don't you take the convertible?" You know, it's so cute. I take full responsibility. Let it be on my head.

Adam: God, Liza. Do you know what you've done? My boy could be killed!

Liza: How does it feel, Adam, to be completely out of control?

Kendall: You know what, Erica? You can be so smug, especially when you think you've won. Greenlee was just sticking up for her rights.

Greenlee: Which I'm perfectly capable of doing without your help.

Kendall: Not from where I'm standing. You need someone.

Greenlee: Well, if I do, it certainly isn't you.

Kendall: I disagree. I'm exactly who you need to help you keep the job you have.

Greenlee: How do you figure that?

Kendall: Well, it's easy. I worked at Enchantment. And in spite of what she says, Erica and I think alike. And besides, I can give a mean interview, too.

Greenlee: Well, thanks, anyway, Kendall, but --

Kendall: Look. She's nervous. She doesn't like the idea of you and I working together.

Erica: Oh, really?

Kendall: Yeah. Look at you -- you hate it. You know it's true. Greenlee and I working together wouldn't be so easy for you to ignore. Hire me, Greenlee. We could be her worst nightmare.

Erica: Shall we go, Chris?

Chris: Sure.

Erica: Okay.

Greenlee: Erica, I think Kendallís right. You're threatened by this idea.

Erica: Oh, yeah. I'm threatened.

Greenlee: Really?

Erica: You know something? Don't really care what you do. I am actually kind of flattered. Because you think it'll take two of you to take on one of me. But you should really rethink this, Greenlee, because you know Kendallís going to stab you in the back. You know she's going to be the worst thing that ever happened to you.

Greenlee: That's a great endorsement coming from you. You know, come to think of it, Kendall, I've been looking for an assistant since Simone left me.

Kendall: Oh. That's funny because I've been looking for a job.

Greenlee: Welcome aboard.

Erica: Oh, Greenlee. Excuse me. What turnip truck did you just fall off of? You went and hired Kendall? Hope it wasn't something I said. Well, okay. You're going to have to make the best of it now.

Leo: I swear I thought I was hallucinating.

David: No, this is very real.

Leo: So she's -- she --

David: No, she's very much alive and she seems to be out of her coma. No, no, no --

Dr. Spencer: Got here as quickly as I could.

David: Well, it looks like you have to open up her chart, Doctor.

Dr. Spencer: I couldn't believe it when I was called. It's a miracle.

David: More like a curse.

Dr. Spencer: Get me a pressure strap on her right away.

Nurse: Yes, Doctor.

Dr. Spencer: Get a gurney.

Orderly: All right.

Anna: I don't understand. She was still alive?

David: And just when I thought that we were going to be able to breathe again.

Anna: Let's get out of here. Come on.

David: Yeah.

Maggie: I don't believe she's back. Well, you know, there's only one way this could've happened.

Trey: What's that?

Maggie: Well, she arrived in hell and the devil wouldn't take her.

Trey: Yeah. That must be it.

Maggie: Hey, come on, lighten up. Now you get a second chance.

Trey: Is it true? Is she out of her coma?

Leo: Yeah, it's true. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Where the hell do you think you're going?

Brooke: If I had found Maria, how could I not tell you?

Edmund: Yeah, you're right. There's no way you could've found her. Because she couldn't have survived what happened to her. And even if she had lived, there's no way she would stay away from her kids for so long.

Brooke: I know that, and that's why I didn't want to put you all -- put you through that pain again.

Edmund: But you went.

Brooke: I had to be sure.

Edmund: Are you?

Brooke: Yes, I'm sure.

Edmund: What happened in Nevada?

Brooke: I -- I tracked the organ donor to a motel there. And Tad knew, and he knew it was going to be difficult for me if it were true, so he -- he came with me to help me.

Edmund: And the woman?

Brooke: Tad convinced me, finally, that, you know, I was just being foolish, that, you know, I was trying to make things difficult for myself -- you know, my problem with being happy.

Edmund: So you didn't find anyone?

Brooke: I found Maureen Gorman. But tad talked to her and he knew right away that, you know, she was a stranger.

Brooke: Edmund. I'm sorry that I -- I lied to you. Please say something.

Greenlee: Erica, you may act like you're not, but you really are threatened.

Kendall: Mm-hmm, I agree. You don't like the idea of us teaming up together because you know it's bad news for you.

Chris: I'd say that's bad news for the whole world, Kendall.

Erica: And I'd say don't worry about it. Because sooner or later, one of them is going to devour the other one. You know, just like on those nature specials?

Trey: I just want to speak to my client. She may have some instructions for me.

Leo: Well, if she does, we'll tell you.

Trey: Yeah, but --

Leo: Right now it's doctors and next of kin.

Trey: Vanessa. Hey, you're out of your coma. You can speak? You cheated death. That's wonderful. Because now I can make you pay for everything you've done to me.

Adam: Liza? Where did he go? Did he tell you where he was going?

Liza: Who?

Adam: J.R.

Liza: Oh, you know -- no, he doesn't really talk to me much anymore. I mean, I -- I don't know what's wrong, but, you know, he didn't say --

Adam: Liza, Liza -- you are the last person to talk to him. What did he say? This is a matter of life and death.

Liza: Oh. You know, Adam, I have to be serious with you. I mean, isn't that kind of relative -- life and death? I mean, we experience both --

Adam: If you don't tell me where he's going, the boy could be killed.

Liza: Oh, Adam. Killed?

Adam: Stop it.

Liza: Oh --

Adam: You're not crazy. I know you're not. Stop pretending!

Brooke: Edmund, please say something. Please tell me you don't hate me.

Edmund: Hate you? I love you, Brooke, more than ever. Nothing can stop us now.

Attendant: All passengers arriving on Flight 104 from Las Vegas, Nevada, may collect their luggage at carousel two.

Man: Hi.

Woman: Good to see you.

Man: Oh, sorry.

Woman: It's okay.

Man: Hey, brother, what's up?

Second man: Hey.

First man: Good to see you.

Second man: Good to see you. Thank you so much for --

Woman: No problem.

>> Stay tuned for scenes from the next "All My Children."

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Liza: How does it feel to be powerless?

Adam: You really are crazy.

Kendall: You and Aidan? Has the good ship lesbo sailed into the Bermuda triangle?

Leo: We can always make a fresh start, right?

Greenlee: What do you have in mind?

Leo: Follow me.
