[Anna talks on the phone]

Anna: No, I'm happy just listening to you talk, Robin. Yeah, I've been thinking a lot about that lately. Well, you know, like, maybe I missed out a bit on the mothering thing. No, I'm fine, I'm fine. Yeah, he's ok. He's just David, you know, same as always.

[THE CHANDLER MANSION]

Hayley: Yeah, well, you know, I'm sure your Mom wasn't the only one excited about this baby. I'm sure the idea of having a little sister was pretty great to you, too, J.R.

Hayley: J.R., listen -- if you want to scream or yell or throw things, you are entitled. I mean, I'm here, it's ok. That baby was going to be a part of your family as well. Hey.

[Enzo cries]

Hayley: How long have you been here?

Mateo: Long enough.

[Enzo cries]

[OUTSIDE THE FRONT DOOR]

Mia: Adam, what's wrong?

Adam: J.R.'S in there. I'm not sure I can face him.

Mia: You can.

Adam: I'm not very good dealing with other people's pain, Mia.

Mia: Well, he's your son. You'll figure out the right thing to say.

Adam: Thank you for saying that. Thank you for everything you've done for us.

Hayley: I have to go get his blankie.

Mateo: Ok. Go.

[OUTSIDE OF ERICA'S BURNED HOUSE]

Fireman: Let's go, guys. Move those hoses on the side of the house. Ms. Kane, please, stay back!

Erica: No, please. There were two men in my house. You have to find them!

Fireman: There's no way they're alive.

Erica: Yes! They have to be!

Bianca: Mom, please --

Erica: They have to be alive!

Kendall: They are! They are! Ryan went in there to bring Chris out. He wouldn't let him die.

Erica: Ryan is not the one to blame!

Bianca: Mom, please, calm down. Please!

Erica: You did this!

[Sirens]

Mateo: Well, Enzo's out. Got to love the way babies just go to sleep, you know? I guess it's one way of cutting out when things get to be too much, right? J.R.?

Adam: Well, I was just thanking Mia for all the help she's given me, and with Liza and J.R.

Hayley: Oh, uh-huh.

Adam: How is J.R.?

Hayley: Not good. He's not dealing with this.

Adam: He's still in shock?

Hayley: I don't think so. He's just totally shut down.

Mia: Well, is he inside?

Hayley: He's with Mateo.

Adam: I guess we should go in.

Mia: Oh.

Liza: How are you doing? You know, whatever --

J.R.: Look, I'm handling it!

Liza: I know that you think that you do. I just think that maybe down deep --

J.R.: No!

Mateo: Listen, why don't we go someplace and talk, huh? You know, people handle grief a little differently, so --

Adam: Mateo, if my son needs advice, I'll provide it. Thank you. I went to see Zeke McMillan.

J.R.: About me?

Adam: Yes. I told him what happened and that you might be able to use some counseling. He made time right away. We can see him this evening.

Liza: It might be good to start talking.

Adam: I can drive you to the hospital --

J.R.: Look, I'm not -- I'm not in the mood to talk to Dr. Zeke today, ok?

Adam: Ok. It's your choice, J.R.

J.R.: Fine. I pass.

Liza: You can't deal with this all on your own.

[Doorbell rings]

Hayley: I'll get it.

Mia: No, actually, that's the guy from the drugstore with Liza's medication. I'll handle it. It's ok.

[Mia opens the front door]

Mia: Trey.

David: All right, look, can we back this up a little bit? I'm kind of slow today.

Maggie: Did you or did you not sign me up for CPR classes here at the hospital?

David: Guilty, yes. But --

Maggie: Without even telling me?

David: I was going to, Maggie, but the class was filling up.

Maggie: Ok, stop trying to arrange my life.

David: All of this because of a CPR class? You're kidding, right?

Woman: Dr. Hayward, I don't mean to interrupt, but --

David: It's all right, ZoŽ. What is it?

ZoŽ: This came for you.

David: What -- what -- it's from Dixie. Switzerland.

ZoŽ: I guess it must've been sent before the accident.

David: Thanks. Excuse me.

[David reads the letter]

David's voice: "Dear David, I just want you to know my life is all good now. Tad is on his way to bring me home, and my baby is healthy and safe. Thank you for helping me, for trusting me to know what I needed. I'll never forget it. Dixie."

Maggie: Excuse me, we weren't finished yet.

David: Oh, yeah, we were.

Maggie: Well, what you have to get --

David: You don't want me to butt into your life. Hey, I can understand. I feel the same way.

Maggie: David, I'm sorry --

David: You want to go solo, right? Is that what you're saying? Hey, that's all right with me, Honey. You're free to go it alone.

Kendall: This is all my fault. Ryan could be gone, and this is all my fault!

Trey: I'm here to see Adam Chandler. I think he'll be very interested to hear what I have to say.

Liza: J.R., I was only a couple of years older than you when I lost my father. And I went to talk to somebody. I talked to a therapist.

J.R.: Ok, look, you can stop trying to relate. I'm fine. Stop worrying about me, and stop staring at me!

Adam: Oh, J.R., we're just trying to give you the support that you need.

Mateo: J.R., get your coat. We're getting out of here, come on. No, Adam, don't say anything. You're driving your kid crazy. Come on, let's go, J.R.

Adam: J.R., no, don't go. Don't leave now!

Hayley: Just let him go, Dad.

Adam: Of all the highhanded -- who the hell does he think he is?

Hayley: Oh, Mateo knows what he needs more than you do. Please!

Adam: What the hell is Trey doing here?

Hayley: Really, really, you know? How -- of course, of course he's going to blame Mateo. Why shouldn't he blame Mateo when he's the one that made J.R. upset in the first place.

Liza: Adam isn't the reason that J.R. walked out of here. It's me.

Hayley: Oh, Liza, that's not true. His mother just died.

Liza: He hates me. And it's only going to get worse.

[Anna dials another number]

Anna: Hello? Is that Murdock's drugstore? Oh, yes, good. Can you put me through to the pharmacy, please? Hi, this is Anna Devane over at Pine Valley Inn. Yeah, I put in an order for a prescription to be delivered, and it's not here yet. Can you find out? Oh, thanks. Oh, ok.

Anna: There you are.

David: Sorry, I'm running late.

Anna: That's ok.

David: Did you get a chance to see those real estate listings that I left out for you?

Anna: Oh, no. Sorry, I forgot.

David: Why doesn't that surprise me?

Anna: That's a little hostile, isn't it?

David: Sorry.

Anna: Are you all right?

David: It's just been kind of a long, rough day, you know?

Anna: I know. You want to talk about it?

David: I had a run-in with Maggie at the hospital. She wanted to tell me in person that I'm a domineering alpha male, and she wanted me to stop taking control of her life.

Anna: Wow. What did you do?

David: I, AKA. Bigfoot, enrolled her in a CPR class. Why the hell can't anyone see what I'm trying to do?

Anna: Well, you know, she's a very independent girl.

David: I wasn't trying to take away her damn independence!

Anna: I know that.

David: Look, I'm just trying to do what's best for all of us. Give us a better life, you know?

Anna: I'm sorry, when did this become about us?

David: This has always been about what's best for us.

Anna: No, let's just get back to Maggie and why you're going off the deep end about it.

David: Look, I -- I saw something that I could do for her, so I did it.

Anna: And she misunderstood. That happens.

David: I just wanted to help her out, that's all.

Anna: Oh, and she turned you down. I get it.

David: What?

Anna: Why this bothers you so much. It's because you like to take care of everyone and solve their problems.

David: Yeah, well, it is what I do. Remember the doctor thing?

Anna: No. No, this goes deeper with you.

David: All right. Suppose it does. Go ahead, Anna. I've already heard about the savior complex.

Anna: From Dixie?

David: How the hell did she get into this conversation?

Anna: Well, she's never really left it, has she? I mean, she's still with us --

David: I'm not the one who keeps bringing her up, Anna.

Anna: No, but you're the one that's missing her so desperately that a blowup with Maggie can put you over the edge.

David: Aah! I don't want to talk about this!

Anna: Well, if we don't talk about it, we're never going to get past it. Maybe that's the point.

David: Now, what is that supposed to mean?

Anna: If you don't ever grieve for Dixie, you don't have to accept the fact that she's gone.

David: All right, look, whenever you want to stop playing Freud, why don't you tell me, ok?

Anna: That's your way of keeping her alive.

David: No, Anna! I am not grieving for Dixie because you won't let me!

Bianca: Oh, my God! Are you really ok?

Chris: Yeah, it looks that way.

Bianca: When you told me to leave, I was so afraid.

Bianca: Ryan, I couldn't move that rubble.

Paramedic: We have to get Mr. Stamp checked for lung damage and also for burns. Be back in a sec.

Ryan: Ok.

Jack: Look, I'm going to take Bianca to the hospital, make sure she's ok.

Erica: Oh, thank you, Jack. Thank you. Then I'll stay and I'll go with Chris. Is that ok with you, Honey?

Bianca: Yeah, that's fine. Of course.

Erica: When I think I almost lost you!

Bianca: Mom, I'm ok. I'm ok.

Erica: I just can't ever thank Chris enough for saving you! My God, what would I have ever done without you?

Bianca: Don't think about it, ok? I'm fine.

Ryan: Hey. How are you doing, Dad?

Chris: That -- that wasn't something I dreamed up? What you just said?

Ryan: No.

Chris: Well, what about the rest of the stuff that you said?

Ryan: You heard that?

Chris: Yeah. Oh, so maybe you want to take it back now, huh?

Ryan: No. No, no way. No way.

Chris: One good thing, Ryan.

Ryan: What's that?

Chris: I got rid of that damn cane.

Ryan: Yeah, how about that.

Erica: So, it was arson. Are you sure?

Fireman: We'll have to do a complete investigation. But we did find traces of an accelerant in the front bedroom, where the fire started.

Erica: The front bedroom -- oh, my God. That's my daughter's bedroom. That was Bianca's bedroom.

Anna: Oh, you want to mourn Dixie and move on?

David: Yes, I do.

Anna: But you can't because of me?

David: That's right.

Anna: Is there anything else you'd like to pin on me?

David: Oh, no --

Anna: You know, maybe the plight of the homeless or world hunger?

David: I am not blaming you.

Anna: Oh, thank you.

David: It's just that anytime I talk about Dixie or how I feel, you see it as a comment on us!

Anna: So you are blaming me.

David: Oh, come on, Anna! I mean, look at the track record. No matter how many times I told you that Dixie and I were over, you didn't want to believe it!

Anna: Let me get something very clear. I never for one second thought the two of you were going to fall back into each other's arms.

David: You were jealous. Admit it!

Anna: No, no, no. That's not what I felt -- what I feel. It has nothing to do with Dixie. It's you, David.

David: Well, you're going to have to explain that one to me.

Anna: I don't see the point.

David: I would like to understand, all right?

Anna: No. I don't think that you can.

David: Well, why don't you at least give me a shot? Hmm?

Anna: Ok. After your affair with her, you put her on a pedestal so high that I'm surprised that she could even breathe.

David: That is not true.

Anna: And every other time that you saw Dixie, you raised it just a little bit higher.

David: No, you're wrong.

Anna: Because of her -- well, because of the fantasy that you have of her, your image of the perfect woman is so out of your grasp, you can never have it.

David: Well, guess what, Anna? Dixie is gone now. So if you think that she was an image or a threat -- she's not anymore.

Anna: Actually, yes, she is. Even more so now.

David: Anna, Dixie is dead.

Anna: But if she were alive, I'd be able to take on the fantasy, you know, and maybe I would win. Well, at least it would be a fair fight.

David: What are you saying?

Anna: Now that Dixie's dead, I don't know if you and I, if we stand a chance at all.

[THE HEALTH CLUB]

Mateo: Come on. Put these on.

[Mateo hands J.R. a pair of boxing gloves]

J.R.: No, thanks.

Mateo: Put them on.

J.R.: I don't think beating up this bag is going to make anything better, ok?

Mateo: It's going to be a lot better than what you're getting back at your house.

J.R.: Whatever.

Mateo: Listen, J.R, what you got inside -- losing a parent, all right, you've got all this anger inside. You can't live with it, you can't run away from it. You got to g rid of it. Here.

J.R.: When did you become an expert people dying?

Mateo: When I lost my dad in a car crash. If I hadn't had this place, I probably would've killed somebody. I probably would've killed myself.

Hayley: Liza, don't take it personally. His mother just died. He's angry at the world.

Liza: He thinks that I'm the one that should've died in the car crash.

Hayley: That's just not true.

Liza: What, you think I'm making it up?

Hayley: No, I just think that you're overreacting.

Liza: So now I'm paranoid? Is that what you're saying?

Mia: Um, Adam, Trey just stopped by to --

Adam: No, no, I know w he's here.

Mia: You do?

Adam: Yeah, I called him.

Mia: Oh.

Adam: I thought, since he seems to be a genius at getting people declared incompetent, I might consult him on Liza's case.

Mia: Oh, I see.

Trey: And I brought some research to show you -- similar cases to set precedent.

Adam: This really isn't a good time.

Trey: I'm sorry. I got the impression from our conversation that this was urgent.

Adam: Actually, I don't think I'm going to be needing you at all.

Trey: So, your wife's not being investigated?

Adam: We've got it covered. So, thank you. Please bill me for whatever work you've done.

Trey: I'd rather schedule some time to talk to you about ways I might be helpful to you in the future.

Adam: I already have counsel.

Trey: But as you just said, I do have special skills. Now, I only need 10 minutes of your time.

Adam: All right. I'll check my schedule. Come on in.

Trey: Thank you.

Adam: Oh, Liza -- Trey, this is my wife, Liza, and my daughter, Hayley Santos. This is Trey Kenyon. Excuse me, I'll be right back.

Trey: Mrs. Chandler, Mrs. Santos.

Liza: Hello.

Hayley: I know you. You're representing Vanessa Cortlandt.

Trey: Please, try not to hold that against me.

Hayley: Hmm. Too late.

Mia: Liza? What's wrong? Did I miss something?

Hayley: No, I'm just explaining to Liza that she is not the reason J.R. just tore out of here.

Liza: Hayley thinks I've lost it. You know, paranoia runs deep, right?

Erica: Well, I don't know why you're surprised by that, Ryan. That's what Kendall always does. She runs away from the scene of the crime -- her crime.

Ryan: What?

Erica: She did this!

Ryan: What are you talking about?

Erica: When Kendall thought that she had lost you, when she thought she had nothing else to lose, she admitted it.

Ryan: Is Erica right? Did you --

Erica: Ryan, she's going to try to take it back now, now that she knows that you're alive.

Ryan: Hey, Kendall, look at me.

Erica: She's going to try to get away with it.

Ryan: Would you talk to me, please?

Erica: But it's too late because the police know that it was arson and that it was set in Bianca's bedroom, the room that you so very well

described in court! Fireman: We're clearing this area. Everybody, please move back. Please!

Erica: People almost died here tonight. You are never going to get a chance to do that again. Never.

Ryan: All right. Now --

Kendall: Ryan, just go!

Ryan: No, no, no, I'm not going anywhere without you!

J.R.: That's right, your dad. I forgot.

Mateo: Yeah, and the only difference -- you weren't there when it happened. I was.

J.R.: Oh, man, you mean you saw him die?

Mateo: Yeah. And I kept asking myself, you know, maybe I could've grabbed the wheel. You know, maybe I shouldn't have let him drive that night.

J.R.: What, you think I shouldn't have let my Mom go to Europe?

Mateo: No, no, no. I don't think you had any say in that.

J.R.: I didn't ask her to stay, did I? Mateo: You think that's the way she saw it?

J.R.: How the hell am I supposed to know? I didn't do anything -- I didn't know she was having this baby, that the baby she was carrying -- I didn't know it could kill her. Forget it. It's stupid. Just forget it

Mateo: Listen. You know she would've done for you the same thing she did for that baby.

J.R.: I think I know my Mom. You don't need to explain her to me.

Mateo: I'm -- I'm not. I'm just trying to tell you about me. Listen, our parents want the best for us, right? You know that. So I just -- I thought I should stop dumping on myself and live my life the way my father would've wanted me to.

J.R.: What, you came here and it changed your life?

Mateo: Give it a try. What have you got to lose? Come on.

[J.R. starts hitting the punching bag]

Hayley: Oh, is that right?

Mia: So, Liza's going to be all right. She just needs to get some sleep, I think.

Trey: You really seem to know a lot about her now.

Mia: Yeah, well, she's stressed out, you know? People get stressed out sometimes.

Trey: Yeah, but you know what to do for her. I think the Chandlers are very lucky to have you here.

Adam: Yes, we are. And we know it. Trey, I'm booked solid for the next two weeks. I will call you, and we'll set something up.

Trey: I hope you do. We have a lot to talk about.

Adam: Hmm.

Mia: So, Trey, I'll show you out.

Adam: I'll be in my study.

Hayley: Right. Right. Mia: Please don't come back here.

Trey: Are you afraid? Because you should be.

Mia: Look, this is a good thing. Please don't ruin this for me, ok? Don't.

Trey: I wouldn't do that. I can't believe these people, buying your Mother Teresa act.

Mia: Would you just shut up? Shut up.

Trey: What do you think they would think if they found out this whole thing was a scam?

[Hayley walks by]

David: You're not sure if we have a chance?

Anna: Oh, I don't know. I don't know, honestly. All I know is that I do not want to be in the shadow of Dixie.

David: And I don't want you to.

Anna: No, that's what -- you think you don't.

David: Look, Anna, I know we kind of backed into this marriage. And maybe we don't have everything clearly defined as of yet.

Anna: I don't think we can be clearly defined.

David: Well, then maybe we should thank God for that, huh? But I thought you knew that I want this. Anna: I do. That's not the issue.

David: I mean, I'm even talking about wanting to have kids.

Anna: I noticed.

David: That's huge for me, Anna. And that's because of you.

Anna: I know that.

David: And, meanwhile, you're the one who hasn't given me an answer.

[knock on door]

Man: Murdock's drugstore? I have a delivery for --

Anna: Great. Can I take that?

Bianca: Look, they said I was ok, so as soon as I sign out, we can head home.

Jack: Ok.

Maggie: Bianca, I heard about the fire. Are you all right?

Bianca: Like you care.

Maggie: No, look, I do. I -- I'm really sorry about what happened --

Bianca: Look, I just wanted to be your friend, ok? But you don't want my friendship, fine. I hope you have a great life -- alone.

Erica: Chris, this burn, it looks pretty nasty. Are you sure you're all right?

Chris: Oh, you heard the doc. I'm a warhorse. All I have to do is sign a couple of papers and I'm out of here.

Erica: I just never had any idea that tonight would end like this. I was so afraid.

Chris: You are what got me through it, Erica. When things were at its worst, Sweetheart, all I could think of was getting back to you.

Erica: You better stop. You're going to make me cry again.

Chris: Ok, I lied. I was looking forward to the cruise.

Erica: Oh, I should've known.

Chris: You and Ryan. My son. He came into that house to save me.

Erica: I know.

Chris: My boy. He's my son.

Erica: I know. I know how much you care about him.

Chris: Yeah, well, it's taken us a couple of near-death experiences to get there, but we're working it out.

Erica: Next time, could you find a way to bond that's a little easier on me?

Chris: I'll try.

Erica: You always try. I am so grateful to you for saving Bianca.

Chris: Sweetheart, I couldn't stand outside when she was stuck on the inside. You know that.
