"American Idol" started out as a phenomenon, but now it's practically a world-wide institution. Based on the UK show "Pop Idol", it is a talent competition where singers vie to see who will be the top idol. Some of the past winners have gone on to fame and fortune. You probably already watch, or know many people who do....it's an addiction!
