  • John Barrowman Fleshes Out His Idea for Female Doctor Who, Ducks the Big Arrow Question
    by Team TVLine
Paying his latest of many visits to Comic-Con, John Barrowman stopped by TVLine’s interview suite to share his very specific ideas for a female Doctor Who, as speculation continues to swirl about who will play the Twelfth Time Lord.
Reiterating his previously expressed stance that it’s time for a woman to helm the TARDIS, the Who/Torchwood alum opined to Michael Ausiello, “Let’s try something different.”
After suggesting one existing Whoniverse denizen to ostensibly fill the role, Barrowman said that if the BBC America series goes with a new face, it should be someone “who’s real” — and then he elaborates on that. Also in this video Q&A, Barrowman does his best to duck Arrow resurrection Qs, raves about taking in the Comic-Con freely as a geek boy himself — “The fans are really great with me” — and talks up his Torchwood and Hollow Earth novels, teasing possible casting ideas for a TV adaptation of the latter (which he pens with his sister).

  • The title of the series finale has been revealed and is the hugely intriguing: The Name of the Doctor.  The ‘poster’ for the series’ final adventure was unveiled today and it also confirms that Alex Kingston is back, joining Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman for what promises to be a jaw-dropping end to a spectacular series. But we’re not there, yet! We’ve still to unravel the mystery of Clara – the woman ‘twice killed’ and yet still by the Doctor’s side… What secrets does she hold? And in the weeks ahead we’ve a trip to a haunted house, a journey to the centre of the TARDIS and a nightmare clash with the mighty Cybermen. But after all those adventures we have The Name of the Doctor and stand by for something that you might always have believed to be impossible…You can see all the posters for the final four episodes of the series in our latest gallery and Doctor Who continues tomorrow at 6.45pm on BBC One with Hide.

  • The upcoming season of Doctor Who will be split into two parts by the BBC. In the U.K., the first batch of seven episodes will air in the spring, and culminate in a cliffhanger tentatively scheduled to air Easter weekend. The second batch of six episodes will air in the fall. It's still unclear if BBCAmerica will follow a similar schedule in the U.S.
"We are going to make it two series – seven episodes at Easter building to an earth-shattering climax, a cliffhanger we could never normally do because it would be too long before it came back," Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat told the Guardian. All five previous seasons of Doctor Who's revival have aired in a single thirteen episode batch during the spring (in the U.K.). The series will continue its annual tradition of special Christmas episodes. The change in scheduling will cut the break between seasons in half.
The Guardian's story has more info on the scheduling change here:
