Angel Episode Guide

Season Four; Episode Twenty-Two: "Home" (Season Finale) By Cathy

(This is a short recap; we hope to have a longer, more detailed summary later)

Aired May 7, 2003

Lilah's alive, well, kind of.  She had an eternal life clause in her contract with Wolfram & Hart.  She’s got the scar on her neck (thanks to Wesley) to prove it.  She’s a messenger from hell, sent by W&H to offer the gang a deal.  The proposal is the L.A branch including a full staff, full control of files, and access to any information they desire.  The senior partners feel they earned this for ending world peace.

Los Angeles is in riots.  Connor keeps a cop from blowing his brains out but then beats the crap out of him when Connor realizes this guy was going to leave behind a family.      After the gang separately ponders over their offer, they one by one approach the waiting limousine and take a ride to the W&H offices.  The offices are bigger and brighter (then I ever remember) and the gang are welcomed with enthusiasm.

Individually they are given the guided tour by people similar to themselves, where Lorne is shown the entertainment division, and Fred the science division that she would be the head of.   Gunn thinks he's going to be head of the security department, but his shapely guide instead takes him to an elevator, which much to his dismay takes him to the white room for answers (the one where Angel and others have gone in the past to see the W&H powers, represented by the girl).  He is greeted by a scary black panther but they look deep into each other's eyes.

Wesley is taken to a library where he has access to unlimited demonic books and information, but it looks on the outside like just one row of books.  With Batman-like moves he escapes his tour guide and library, and finds the real library, including the employee files.  This is where Lilah finds him.  He tries to destroy her contract by burning it; he wants to give her peace.  The contract is ‘eternal’ and can't be burnt, but Lilah likes the sentiment.

Angel is offered the ultimate office, including tempered glass windows that let in the sunlight but do not harm him, plus 12 cars.  Lilah gives him a Sunnydale file and mentions the world ending, setting up Angel's crossover to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".  There is also some sort of amulet that is supposed to help Buffy. Angel turns it all down.  After receiving a phone call, Lilah turns on the TV to the news, which is showing coverage of a hostage situation involving Connor as the hostage taker.    Angel tells Lilah that he will her deal but on his own terms.

Angel confronts Connor and finds him, and a bunch of hostages, including Cordelia, wired up to explosives.  They have a short talk.  Connor says he feels dead.  Angel tells his son that he loves him and he wants to help him ‘start over’.  Connor is in torment and still blames Angel for letting him go into the Hell dimension when he was a baby.  Angel can't talk Connor out of his suicide/murder so he fights him instead.  Angel is able to save the hostages and Cordelia.  He has to beat Connor up and stab him in the leg to do it.  Connor thinks Angel is going to kill him and, as Angel says he will save him, in a flash it looks like Angel is going to stab him, but we don't actually see it.

Next we see that Angel is back at W&H with the rest of the gang, all of whom want to stay, and Angel says he already took the deal.  Lilah tells them that Cordy is safe and sound, getting a manicure, and they are looking to find a way to bring her back out of her coma.  Angel asks Lilah to see Connor and even though she protests, she tells him a limo is waiting to take him to a town in Rhode Island.  When Angel leaves, Fred turns to the rest of the gang and asks “Who’s Connor?”

Angel approaches a quiet domestic home and watches through the window at a perfect family discussing their son going away to school.  Connor stands up and toasts his wonderful parents and sisters.   They joke around.  Angel smiles a bittersweet smile and then walks away.

W & D: Tim Minear.

Starring:  David Boreanaz (Angel), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), J. August Richards (Gunn), Amy Acker (Fred), Vincent Kartheiser (Connor), Andy Hallett (Lorne) and Alexis Denisof (as Wesley).

Memorable Quotes:

“Mr. Angel.” multiple employee greetings at W&H.

“Charlie, let me take you around the chocolate factory” Lilah to Angel offering the W&H tour.

“Bob, let’s show him what's behind door number one.”  Lilah to Angel on the tour.

“Cool, is that a high-def?”  Angel upon seeing his new big screen TV.

“I think I preferred the little girl”  Gunn's comment upon seeing a black panther in the white room.

Stephanie Romanov (Lilah).
