Stick Man

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 11/5/16

This is a really sweet children's Christmas cartoon. However, adults may enjoy it, too. I sure did. It's got great animation, nice voices (some of which you may recognize), and an enjoyable story. It's a very simple story, yet so nice and very in tune with the holiday. It would also make a nice gift.

"Stick Man" is one of a stick family that lives in a tree. He leaves the tree and has an unwanted adventure. Because he looks like a stick, children, pets and others assume he is only a stick, not Stick Man.  His wife and kids worry about him when he's late in returning. I won't spoil the ending! Check it out. You won't be sorry. The DVD also has a nice special feature about the making of the show. I think it may be as long as the show! No stone (er, stick?) is left unturned.

Based on the Beloved Children’s Book
Features the Voices of Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit,” “Sherlock”),
Hugh Bonneville (“Downton Abbey”), and Jennifer Saunders (“Absolutely Fabulous”)

Arlington, Va.October 12, 2016 – Public Media Distribution, LLC announced today it is releasing “STICK MAN” on DVD November 8, 2016. From Magic Light Pictures, the makers of “The Gruffalo” and “Room on the Broom,” this beautifully animated adventure tells the tale of Stick Man and his epic adventure across the seasons in order to make it home to his family in time for Christmas. This film is based on the beloved children’s book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

While out for a jog, Stick Man is carried away from his family tree by a mischievous dog eager to play fetch! As he tries to make his way back to his “Stick Lady Love and their stick children three,” things only get worse as he finds himself farther and farther from home. Alone and weary, Stick Man longs to be reunited with his family for Christmas. Will a chance encounter with Santa Claus be his ticket home?

Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit,” “Sherlock”) voices Stick Man, Hugh Bonneville (“Downton Abbey”) voices Santa, and the story is narrated by Jennifer Saunders (“Absolutely Fabulous”). Also helping bring Donaldson’s alluring and bouncy rhymes to life in this heartwarming family treasure are Rob Brydon (“The Huntsman: Winter’s War”), Sally Hawkins (“Paddington”) and Russell Tovey (“Being Human”).

In addition to featuring this charming tale, the DVD includes a behind the scenes documentary about the transformation of the delightful book into a captivating film. In this 20 minute video, viewers are treated to a look into how the design of the characters and environments came about, and the creation of the beautiful film score. The documentary also includes wonderful insights from Julia Donaldson, director Jeroen Jaspaert, composer Rene Aubry, and many others.

STICK MAN” will be released on DVD November 8, 2016. The story has a run time of approximately 30 minutes. The DVD SRP is $12.99. “STICK MAN” will also be available for digital download.
