SCTV Volume 3 (DVD)

Review by Suzanne 3/21/05

I have seen a few of the SCTV reruns over the years.  It's one of those shows that is sometimes funny...not as good as Saturday Night Live in its prime. I may have to revise my opinion of the show after watching this set.  There are some hilarious bits here.  It's great to see Martin Short, Eugene Levy, and the rest when they were so young.  I particularly loved "Battle of the PBS Stars".

SCTV is a fictional small-town TV network, so the bits revolve around TV shows that air on SCTV.  The bits often make fun of TV shows from the 70's and 80's, so it is a fun nostalgic trip as well.  This disk covers the second half of the 4th season, which is the season where Martin Short first appeared; also, the show aired on NBC for the first time.  It had previously been syndicated.

The disk includes many musical performances, a guest appearance by Bill Murray, Commentaries by Joe Flaherty and the writers, and lots of short movies featuring the SCTV actors.  It's a 5 box set, so there is plenty of hilarity to watch in this great package.
