I really don't know why they made this movie. I guess
they wanted to get the June Carter Cash story, or maybe
Jewel just really wanted to do this. I don't know. I can't
really recommend the movie, though, unless you're a huge
Jewel fan. She does a fine job, especially with the singing.
There's a lot of great old music in the movie.
First of all, the guy who plays Johnny Cash, while he's a
fine actor, does not sound at all like Johnny Cash, either
in his speaking or singing voice. Cash's voice is very
distinctive, so they should have either dubbed it with
someone who could sing like him or picked an actor who could
sing like him. His voice is just not that deep.
Jewel is a great singer and a fine actress, but she's no
Reese Witherspoon. The tepid script doesn't help. It's just
a straight-forward TV movie telling of her life and their
marriage. It's nothing special. In fact, it's pretty dull.
The DVD only has one real extra: a Biography special
about Johnny Cash. That was actually way better than the
Lifetime movie, so you might buy the DVD just for that.
There are some other DVD trailers as well.
