Masterpiece: Press DVD cover

 Masterpiece: Press

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 10/15/19

I watched this show from the beginning on PBS this season, so I was happy to get the DVD. It's a very good series about British newspapers and how they work, and it also tells a good dramatic story. As an online journalist, I find it fascinating.

Charlotte Riley stars as Holly, a newspaper editor that is mourning the death of her good friend (and roommate), whom she believes was murdered. Besides trying to solve that mystery, she's also trying to contend with working at a dying newspaper. Her foil on the dark side is Duncan Allen (played wonderfully by Ben Chaplin), a sleazy tabloid newspaper publisher. He runs her paper's main competitor. She gets chummy with Duncan's new reporter, Ed (Paapa Essiedu).

Make sure you check out this enthralling drama that has good characters and an intriguing story.
