Night Court: The
Complete Third Season
Review by Suzanne 3/3/10
Night Court is a hilarious, zany, funny, quirky show. There really haven't been
too many like it. It started out being a little bit like Barney Miller, but then
it really started to get much sillier (but in a good way), in this third season.
In case you don't know, Harry Anderson plays the night time judge, who is very
unusual. He plays practical jokes and does magic trick, and he hardly seems to
take the legal issues seriously. There is a large cast of odd characters in the
court room. The idea is that the serious and normal people work during the day.
The whole cast is great, starting with John Larroquette, who plays the part of
his career in Dan Fielding. He is always a good actor and fine comedian, but
this was no question his finest role. Markie Post joins the cast in this third
season, and she and Harry start their long relationship.
Back in the early 80's, TV shows started having these on-again off-again
romance/flirtations that are so common today. Night Court was one of the first
sitcoms to have it.
There are no extras, which is a shame (was it really so hard to get these actors
to talk about the show? I have to wonder...) However, you should buy this set
because it's so very funny and has not lost any charm in the 20+ years since. I
plan to buy all of the seasons as they come out, for my collection, even though
I have already seen them all.
The hilarious 80's classic, Night Court: The Complete Third Season is
coming out on DVD on February 23rd. This season alone was nominated for a
total of 4 Emmy Awards and Won 1 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a
Comedy Series (John Larroquette). The show featured key actors Harry
Anderson, John Larroquette, Richard Moll, Markie Post, Charles Robinson
and Florence Halop.

Synopsis: This season, life in Judge Harry Stone's court starts with a
tear (as the gang says farewell to Selma) and a horselaugh (as they
welcome wiseacre Flo to the municipal menagerie). And it's all fun from
there in 22 absurdly hilarious episodes as Harry and his staff (including
another newcomer, Legal Aid attorney Christine Sullivan) contend with New
York's zaniest nuts and dolts: the usual winos, weirdos, hookers and con
artists, plus an orangutan, a rock star, a man from Saturn and a gorgeous
witch who has Harry under her spell. The 3-Disc Set of Season 3 ends on a
dark and stormy night, when four expectant moms fulfill their expectations
with the panic-stricken assistance of the whole Night Court crew. Lullaby
and good Night Court!
