Longmire: The Complete First Season

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 6/1/13

This is a wonderful show; possibly the best one on TV. It reminds you of an old western from the 60's, in some ways, but in other ways it's not. The lead actor, Robert Taylor, really reminds me of someone like Lee Majors. I loved it from the first episode I saw last year. I'm very thrilled to have it on DVD. Even though the show is sort of slow compared to most TV shows, it's not at all slow in a boring way. It sets the tone for the show. Anyone who loves great TV should love this show, but especially anyone who loves westerns.

The acting is fabulous, and the show has amazing guest stars. Everyone is very real. There's nothing overdone or over-acted here. I'm really looking forward to the second season.

The DVD has only two features, but they are both great and in-depth. One is about filming the show (the weather, the cinematography, the scenery etc.) and the other is about the character of Longmire and the show itself (the story and characters). I love hearing the cast and crew talk about the show.  It's funny at first to hear Taylor speak in his native Australian accent! He does a great job playing Walt, the quintessential American sheriff.

Don't miss this one! You'll be sorry if you do as it's fabulous.

Longmire is the best of two worlds: a modern crime drama with dry wit and

sometimes heart-wrenching emotion that’s also got a glorious setting under

the big sky of Wyoming.” – The Wall Street Journal

BURBANK, CA (February 20, 2013) – Betrayal. Dedication. Grief. Ambition. Under Wyoming’s Big Sky country, one unstoppable sheriff is forced to bury personal tragedies behind a brave face while attempting to rebuild his life and career and keep the peace in an often wild and lawless land. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group will release the contemporary western Longmire: The Complete First Season on May 28, 2013, timed to the Season Two broadcast premiere on A&E. Longmire: The Complete First Season will be priced to own at $39.98 SRP.

From the executive producers of hit shows including The Closer, Major Crimes and Nip/Tuck comes Longmire, which is based on the “Walt Longmire” series of mystery novels written by best-selling author Craig Johnson.  In the debut season of this suspenseful series, Walt Longmire is a charismatic and unflappable Wyoming sheriff of Absaroka County and the world-weary yet dedicated lead character. Struggling with his wife’s death a year ago and at the urging of his attorney daughter, Walt knows he must turn his life around. Aided by his loyal female deputy and his oldest friend, he becomes reenergized about his job and runs for reelection against an ambitious younger deputy rival candidate. Set under Wyoming’s Big Sky country, Longmire must investigate a series of major crimes in his jurisdiction. Season One of Longmire stars actors Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman and Adam Bartley.

In its premiere season, Longmire was A&E’s most-watched original series in the network’s history with over 4 million viewers and ranked #1 in its time slot with Men 25-54.

Longmire brings a Western edge to the contemporary crime drama.  The complex characters and intriguing mysteries set in a spectacular landscape makes this one of the most original new dramas on air,” said Rosemary Markson, Senior Vice President, TV and Special Interest Marketing of Warner Bros Home Entertainment Group. “We are thrilled to release Longmire: The Complete First Season on DVD.”
