Human Target: The Complete First Season

  Review by Suzanne 10/19/10

I've loved this show since the first episode, so I'm very glad to get the DVD set! Although the show is based on a comic book (one I never read, I might add), they changed a lot, but that's fine. It is a great show with tons of action, fun, and some romance. It has awesome music and special effects. They really work hard at making this a great adventure, like a movie.  The theme song is excellent, too, unlike so many today.

Mark Valley stars as Christopher Chance, who is hired by various people to protect them. He is a combination detective, superhero, and bodyguard. The show reminds me of a lot of the shows I loved growing up, like "Wild Wild West" or "Have Gun Will Travel". Chance is the strong silent type like Clint Eastwood or Robert Conrad.

I first saw Mark Valley (Chance) when he was on "Days of Our Lives", and he has really grown as an actor since then.  Even back then, he had a wit and charm that shone through (as well as being very handsome, of course). He has been in many series since then, and he always does well. This is a great role for him because he is very good at being a hero.  He can play all of the levels, all of the facets needed.  He's paired with the great Jackie Earle Haley (who was fabulous in "Watchmen" and is truly scary here, as well as very funny) and veteran character actor Chi McBride. They make a great trio.

The DVD set is a really nice one, too.  It has some fun extras.  One talks about how they created the show from the comic. Another one goes through all the things they did to make the show, from casting to music to special effects.  There are also unaired scenes, and a commentary on the pilot from the actors.  It is a really good set to have.

Your favorite action/adventure fan should love this!

Press Release:

FOX's Action Drama, Along with Deleted Scenes and Two Featurettes

BURBANK, CA - Are you willing to be a human target? Well, just leave it to Chance! Based on the popular DC Comics comic book series and graphic novels, FOX's full-throttle drama Human Target, from Warner Bros. Television, centers on Christopher Chance (Mark Valley - Fringe, Boston Legal), a unique private contractor/bodyguard hired to protect his clients from danger at all costs. Warner Home Video (WHV) is releasing Human Target: The Complete First Season on DVD and Blu-ray September 21, 2010 for SRP $39.98/ $49.99.

Hailed by the Los Angeles Times for its "brilliantly off-kilter characters, high quality production values and truly groovy fight sequences," Human Target was developed for television by Jonathan E. Steinberg (Jericho), who also served as executive producer on the first season along with executive producers McG (The O.C., Chuck), Peter Johnson (Supernatural) and Brad Kern (Charmed). Human Target: The Complete First Season's three-disc DVD and two-disc Blu-ray feature all 12 episodes of the show's acclaimed first year, along with a slew of special features, including two never-before-seen featurettes, audio commentary and deleted scenes.

From piloting a distressed, upside-down jumbo jet to serving as a bodyguard for a D.A. targeted by a gang, Christopher Chance constantly puts his life on the line each week as he races against time to save his clients. During each job, Chance is supported by special ops manager Winston (Chi McBride - Pushing Daisies, Boston Public) and hired gun Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley - A Nightmare on Elm Street, Watchmen). Along the way, each new adventure reveals Chance's mysterious past and what drew him to become a human target.
