Halt And Catch Fire The Complete Second Season
Review by Suzanne Lanoue
8/1/16 |
I recorded the first season of this show but
never got around to watching it! So when they sent me this
DVD to review, I went to Netflix and watched most of the
first season. I'm glad I did because it's a pretty great
show! It has amazing actors and really good story. What more
could you ask? It's on AMC, so of course it's very good.
They don't do bad shows, in my opinion.
The show takes place in Texas in the early
1980's; it's about how this small group of people try to
make a laptop computer, way before that kind of thing was
envisioned, when IBM was king. Microsoft and Apple were
around but not big yet. It's very interesting. The
show's stars are Scoot McNairy (Gordon), Kerry Bishé (his
wife, Donna Clark), Lee Pace (salesman Joe) and Mackenzie
Davis (geek girl Cameron). Gordon looks like your average
schlub, but he's a bit of a visionary, having tried to
create his own type of computer before, with Donna (they
failed to sell it). Lee is his own visionary and has
dreams of making it big. He's a little bit crazy but is
really charming and handsome. Cameron is a young
college student who's rebellious but also gets caught up in
wanting to create something new. I was her age back then,
but no one I knew talked that much about yet computers. I
got into them in the 90's, but my brothers and some friends
were into them in the late 80's. So this was a really
cutting edge era.
You might think, how can this show be
interesting? You might envision a bunch of geeks sitting
around, working, typing... and when they do talk, it's
boring. That couldn't be further from the truth. Even
though it's about computers, it's really about relationships
(like most dramas!) and the writers create pretty great
characters. Not only are the main characters fascinating,
but they have some very entertaining guest stars as well.
The story is very fast and they cram a lot into each
episode.
In the second season, the show has gotten
even better and focuses more on the women. You don't
want to miss this fabulous show. Make sure you go watch
season 1 first!
The DVD has many awesome features about the
show and behind-the-scenes. They did a good job with the
set.

Kerry Bishé and Toby Huss - AVAILABLE ON DVD AUGUST 9, 2016
AVAILABLE ON DVD AUGUST 9, 2016
The sophomore season of AMC’s hit tech-centered drama “Halt
and Catch Fire”
hits the ground running. It’s March 1985. More than a year
has passed since Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace) set
fire to a truck full of Cardiff
Giant PCs, the last in a long string of destructive acts
that burned the people that made the machine possible:
Gordon Clark (Scoot McNairy), Donna Clark (Kerry Bishé),
Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis) and John Bosworth (Toby
Huss). The Giant is about to go the way of the dinosaur,
like any number of personal computers to enter the market in
the wake of IBM. The lesson is harsh but clear: in history,
only the truly disruptive ideas are destined to matter.
Season two of “Halt and
Catch Fire”
thrives on the spirit of innovation and takes on
world-changing scenarios, no matter the risk.
Season three of “Halt
and Catch Fire”
will premiere on AMC this summer. To learn more about the
