DVD TV Show Reviews

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

by Suzanne 9/6/08

This is one of the great classics that everyone watched growing up (and probably still do).  It's a good DVD since they digitally remastered the show. It looks very fresh and new, the colors really vibrant.  They did an excellent job. Your kids will love it as much as you did. Personally I still love watching these shows and reading the old Peanuts strips.

The DVD contains another Peanuts special as well, "It's Magic, Charlie Brown", which is cute but not as good as the Great Pumpkin.  There is a nice behind-the-scenes feature, "We Need a Blockbuster, Charlie Brown" where the remaining living creators of the show talk about how the special came about. They talk about how the network wanted them to come up with another hit after the Christmas episode, so they did.  I love that they insisted on using real children as the voices.  They also have it so that you can download two songs from the show onto your iTunes, which is great.

There aren't a lot of extras, but it's still a nice little DVD for you and your family to own, and it's just in time for Halloween!
