Dynasty: Season 8, Vol. 1 & 2

Dynasty: Season 8, Vol. 1 & 2

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 4/30/14

I watched all of these shows back in the 80's and 90's when the show was on. It was always a lot of fun.  Now, looking back, the first thing that strikes is how young they all look, particularly those that I've seen more recently in other shows, like Joan Collins, Michael Nader and Jack Coleman.

The second thing that strikes you is how boring and slow the show is. Of course, season 8 was not their best season. The show was on the way out and only had one more season left. They were working hard to try to improve things. "The Colbys" had been canceled, so this season, they brought back Jeff and Fallon, among others.

Also, back then, shows were just a lot slower0moving than they are now, so it's hard to watch something this slow now.  If you're used to watching old re-runs, then you may notice the pacing problems. For the rest of us, though, the show seems very slow.

After awhile, you do get used to the slower pace of the shows again... it's fun to see them and great that they've finally brought all of the episodes out on DVD (just season 9 left to go!).

There are no features or extras, which is too bad. Most of the actors are still alive, so it would have been great to see interviews with them.

Unless you're a huge fan of the show from way back, you may find that the best thing about the show is the theme song, the costumes, and the hair styles. For the rest of us, it's a fun trip down memory lane.

We need more episode guide recap writers, article writers, MS FrontPage and Web Expression users, graphics designers, and more, so please email us if you can help out!  More volunteers always needed!  Thanks!
