Daktari The Complete First Season DVD cover

Daktari The Complete First Season (5 Discs) (1966)

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 12/5/11

This is a show I watched when I was a little girl. I have to say, it hasn't changed. Some shows I liked back then, I can't stand now, or I think they're very stupid.  But this one is the same. I thought it was boring and kind of talky back then, but it had lots of cute animals. That's pretty much still the same.

Daktari is a series that sprang from a movie "Clarence the Cross-eyed Lion".  It's about some veterinarians that run a research center in Africa. They fend off all sorts of bad guys (to the point where it gets a little ridiculous) as well as natural disasters.  The only thing really worth watching is Judy the chimp, Clarence the lion, and the other animals.

It's good family fun, though. Kids should like it, like I did. They'll ignore the talky boring parts, too.  You can safely watch this with your kids and not worry (if you can stay awake long enough).

The DVD doesn't have any extras. It's too bad because it would have been nice to see how the cast are doing now. I loved the theme song, but the first season doesn't seem to have it, so maybe it's one that came along later.
