Boss Season Two

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 4/7/13

I loved the first season of this show. It was epic, like a Shakespearean play. The second season is still very good, although it goes off the rails a bit and is not as tightly written. The acting is still excellent.

The mayor's brain is still deteriorating, plus he's taking drugs...he's hallucinating a lot. He's still trying to keep everything together and not letting any know what's happening to him. Some people do find out, though. He wants to rush through all of his political plans so he can leave behind a legacy, but he has that pesky reporter guy still investigating him, and others.

The same basic group of people appear in the second season, but with one great addition: Jonathan Groff plays Kane's new aide, Ian, replacing the fired Kitty.  He is one sick puppy and really makes the show.

You want to make sure to buy this set. There are only 10 episodes of the season, but they are powerful.  There is just one feature, but it's fairly long and detailed, "The King and His Court". It has all of the actors and other people discussing the show. I enjoyed watching it. It's such a shame there is no 3rd season!

MORE INFORMATION:

Golden GlobeŇ winner Kelsey Grammer (Best Actor, Television Series - Drama, 2012) reprises his award winning role as the corrupt Chicago Mayor, Tom Kane in BOSS: Season Two debuting on 2-disc Blu-ray, 3-disc DVD and Digital Download April 9 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. The BOSS: Season Two Blu-ray and DVD, containing a featurette about the cast plus an audio commentary with the writers and producers of the show, will be available for the suggested retail price of $39.97 and $39.98, respectively.

Mayor Tom Kane's (Grammer) grip on Chicago is as powerful as ever. With high doses of medication, he's able to beat back the physical symptoms of his debilitating brain disease, but it comes at a cost. Committed to his unorthodox agenda, Kane cuts out the cancers within the political machine he helped build. As corrupt heads roll and his list of enemies grows, Kane's virtuous actions begin to erode the very foundation of power he's worked a lifetime to build. In order to maintain it, Kane must govern as he always has - ruthlessly.
