I'm very glad to have this set because I somehow missed this
series and have never seen it before (probably because I
don't have Showtime). I love Jeremy Irons, so it's great to
see him in anything. He's really fabulous in this show.
This show ran three seasons, but it's cable,
so it's only 29 episodes. That's barely more than a season
for broadcast networks! Too bad they didn't get at
least one more season to wrap things up. The show's creator
had envisioned four seasons. Apparently the show was just
very expensive to make. They didn't even want to spend money
to make a movie at the end.
From what I've
read the show is not completely historically accurate (what
shows are?), but they do a fairly good job, for the most
part. Drama matters more than history, anyway. It's not "The
Tudors," but it's not "Reign," either.
first season is all about establishing the characters. They
do a good job with that, but the second season is where
things really start to pick up with the story and it gets
really good. You should definitely check it out, even
though it didn't have quite a good finish to the series.
The special features are pretty good on the DVD set.
They have "The World of Borgias," interviews, behind the
scenes extras, biographies and bloopers.
