 Becker: The Complete Series

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 6/1/17

This is a pretty funny sitcom. When it aired, I watched it occasionally. It's not the funniest show around, but it's entertaining. Ted Danson is always fun to watch, no matter what character he's playing. He plays a real irascible character here... someone who's often grumpy and complains a lot.  However, he's a great doctor who really cares about his patients.

The supporting cast is very good...I loved Terry Farrell as Reggie. It's a shame she left before the last season. I think a lot of people tuned out when she left. I also like the actor who played the blind guy, Jake (Alex Désert) and Becker's secretary, Margaret (Hattie Winston). I think the rest of the characters were kind of annoying (especially Bob and Linda), so I think that's one of the reason I didn't tune in regularly.

The set is definitely worth getting (for the first season if nothing else).  I only have one complaints. There is no closed-captioning on the set, which is a shame.  This series is from the late 90's, so it definitely had closed-captioning when it aired. I don't know why they didn't bother to put it on the DVD (except for the last season).  Fortunately, the actors don't mumble or have any weird accents. It's very easy to hear what they have to say (unless you're deaf, then I guess you're out of luck).

The DVD set has some good features, like a gag reel and some interviews. It's not a lot, but it's better than nothing. I would have liked to have seen some more interviews from the actors now, since they're all still alive. I would love to hear what they have to say about the show.

Although I don't think it's the funniest show ever made, it's definitely funnier than most sitcoms on TV today, so check it out. It was very edgy for its time.

Becker: The Complete Series
Release Date: June 6

THE DOCTOR IS IN! For the first time ever, all six seasons of the beloved sitcom are available in this one-of-a-kind collection! Becker: The Complete Series stars TV legend Ted Danson in his unforgettable role as a gruff Bronx doctor with a sharp wit and a sharper tongue. Don’t miss classic episodes like Physician, Heal Thyself, One Angry Man, and The TorMentor (guest-starring Leonard Nimoy) in Becker: The Complete Series. Includes 129 episodes.

Multiple Emmy Award winner Ted Danson ("Cheers") stars in the fan-favorite series BECKER, now available in a newly packaged complete series collection.  The comedy follows Dr. John Becker (Danson), a dedicated and talented physican who's extremely devoted to his Bronx medical practice. However, because Dr. Becker looks at the world around him and sees a society gone mad, he has no qualms about saying anything that comes to mind - anything.  Becker often unleashes his views on his friends: Jake (Alex Désert), the blind propertor of the local newsstand; Bob (Saverio Guerra), the annoying but somehow likable super of Becker's apartment building; Margaret (Hattie Winst), his head nurse; and Linda (Shawnee Smith), his slightly ditzy nurse's aide.  He also has to deal with his neighbor - and on-again, off-again love interest - Chris (Nancy Travis).  Even though he seems to be insulting them at every turn, the people in his life persist in trying to connect with him to find the nice guy they know is in there somewhere.  Featuring all 129 episodes of the hilarious show, BECKER: THE COMPLETE SERIES DVD collection also featuers interviews with the cast and a gag reel.
