The Big Bang Theory: The Complete 8th Season DVD cover

The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Eighth Season Blu-ray

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 9/12/15

This is the top-rated sitcom on TV and arguably one of the best (certainly on broadcast television). It's consistenly funny, even after 8 seasons. This is not the kind of comedy that surprises us too often. We know these characters and what to expect out of them. They make the same type of jokes (more or less) over and over. Yet the jokes are still funny because these guys are such great comedians and the dialogue really pops.

The show started with just four guys and one girl, but then they gradually added two other women. They have a nice tight group now. We know that Sheldon will be obnoxious and oblivious (and occasionally tug on our heart strings). Leonard will be insecure and a little whiny. Penny will be kind of slutty and condescending. They will make jokes about Penny's drinking, Raj's bad luck with women, Sheldon's lack of empathy (or his lack of sex with Amy), Howard's cluelessness, and Bernadette's bitchiness. We still love the jokes!

Although a sitcom's plot doesn't really matter too much, they do a good job of developing the characters and having relationships that we care about. We really want to see Amy and Sheldon finally get together, as well as Leonard and Penny get married. As long as they stay funny while they do it!

This season, Raj has a girlfriend, Howard's mom passes away, and Sheldon finally says "I love you" to Amy. These are huge plot developments. The show gets great ratings for a reason. They hardly ever have an episode that's a dud.  Some of them are just outstanding, like the ones with Bob Newhart. The one with James Earl Jones and Carrie Fisher was also hilarious. This season, they had a really funny one where they tried to bring into Skywalker Ranch. The inside jokes for geeks are always good, too.

There are a lot of good features; my favorite is their tribute to Carol Ann Susi, who played Howard's mother (whom we never saw on screen).  I'm sure you will enjoy this set and the features. The best thing about a sitcom is that you don't have to have watched the previous seasons to enjoy this one.

Series on Broadcast TV Plus All New Special Features!

BURBANK, CA (June 16, 2015) – As the most-watched entertainment series on broadcast TV, The Big Bang Theory continues to capture the hearts of viewers and critics alike, with original episodes averaging more than 21 million Total Viewers per week during the 2014-2015 season.  Now fans can relive all of the laughs of one of the best seasons to date when Warner Bros. Home Entertainment releases The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Eighth Season on Blu-ray and DVD September 15, 2015 for $49.99 / $44.98 SRP and includes all 24 hilarious episodes plus all-new extras including 4 featurettes as well as the show’s 2014 Comic-Con panel in San Diego. The Big Bang Theory — which was already renewed for two additional seasons on CBS — revolves around two genius roommates Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper who remain socially challenged, but always produce hilarious results with their friends. With Leonard finally engaged to girl-across-the-hall Penny after countless proposals, the possibilities for happiness seem endless…while the probability for laughs is a foregone conclusion. What’s unknown is how this might impact the ironclad “Roommate Agreement” he’s entered into with Sheldon. Add to this, Sheldon’s uncomfortably close relationship with neurobiologist Amy Farrah Fowler; Raj’s newfound ability to talk to and date women; and Howard and Bernadette’s solution to an in-house caretaker (their friend Stuart) for the always outspoken Mrs. Wolowitz, and the worlds of science and sitcom are about to hilariously collide!

Home Entertainment is thrilled to bring all the laughs of The Big Bang Theory to Blu-ray and DVD with the release of The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Eighth Season,” said Rosemary Markson, WBHE Senior Vice President, Television Marketing. “With The Big Bang Theory being the #1 show across broadcast television and a best-seller in home entertainment, fans can now add all the delightful moments of this memorable season to their collections.”
