The Affair: Season 2

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 9/10/16

This is a good relationship drama with some murder mystery thrown in. What makes it unusual is that we see the scenes from different characters' points of view. In the first season, we saw what happened from Noah (Dominic West) and Alison (Ruth Wilson)'s points of view. Noah is a writer and teacher who has an affair with a waitress while his family is visiting relatives on Montauk (part of Long Island). Alison is mourning her dead child.

In this second season, We also see what happens from the points of view of Noah's wife, Helen (Maura Tierney), and Alison's husband, Cole (Joshua Jackson).  From the very first episode of the first season, we know that they're all being questioned by the police because Noah and Helen's daughter's boyfriend, Scott, was killed. Things heat up in this season season.

I only have a few problems with this show. First of all, I love Joshua Jackson, but I hate the beard he wears in this show (I'll be so glad when that trend is over).  It does sound tedious that they tell the same story from different points of view, but it's really not. They are very different, and they don't show every single thing that happens. It's a very interesting way to do the show.

The actors are fantastic and really do a great job. I'm glad to have the DVD set because I don't get Showtime. The featuers on this set are very good. My only gripe about it is that every feature is on a different disk. I like it better when they put them all on one disk. Makes it easier.

I was surprised when watching the features that Ruth Wilson (Alison) is British. She hides it very well. I enjoyed the features. They do a great job of showing us all the details.

MORE INFORMATION:

THE TRUTH IS SUSPECT

With a murder unsolved and a betrayal exposed, the truth is suspect in 12 stunning Season Two episodes of the Golden Globe-winning drama. Shifting between the perspectives of Noah (Dominic West), Alison (Ruth Wilson), Helen (Maura Tierney) and Cole (Joshua Jackson), the story now reveals the complex family ties, passionate betrayals and vengeful emotions that have resulted from the illicit summer liaison. And as the two estranged couples try individually to plan for the future, a new series of deceptions will once again force them to question everything they believed.
