Press Your Luck logo and host Elizabeth Banks

Review of "Press Your Luck" 6/12/19 by Eva Diaz
airs Wednesdays, 8/7c on ABC

I enjoy watching game shows, and I'm so happy that they've made a comeback to network television in the summertime. The latest game show to return is "Press Your Luck," which was popular in the 1980's. The updated version has stayed close to the original concept with two diffrences. First, they give away more money in this new version; a contestant has the chance to win up to one million dollars in cash and prizes. The second difference is that if a contestant gets to the bonus round that he or she has a chance to win four prizes that are put on the board that are customized to that particular contestant, such as a particular trip or a car (something that has special meaning to them). I like this new addition to the game because it makes it even harder for the contestant to decide if they want to keep pressing their luck, since they risk losing their cash and prizes The rules of the game are simple: three contestants answer trivia questions to win spins on the board; then they face a board with cash and prizes, and they push a red button, or get a whammy (which is a red creature that looks like a smiling little devil). If the contestant lands on a whammy, all of their money goes away. The contestant who has the most cash and prizes at the end of four rounds heads to the bonus round to try and win more money.

I enjoyed this show very much because they didn't change the original game. I don't like it when shows change them too much. It's not as fun for me to watch when they do that. Elizabeth Banks hosts the show. I enjoyed her a lot because she has great rapport with the contestants, and you can tell she is rooting for them to win the money just as much as the people at home are rooting for them. I give this show 5 out of 5 stars. This one is worth watching if you love game shows.

PRESS YOUR LUCK (Wednesdays, 8:00 p.m. ET)

Series Premieres Wednesday, June 12, 2019

“Press Your Luck” is a game of wits, strategy and even higher stakes as contestants try to avoid the iconic and devilish WHAMMY for a chance at life-changing cash and prizes. During each game, three contestants compete against each other answering questions to earn spins on the Big Board. Contestants then use their spins to win cash and prizes while trying to avoid the WHAMMY, who could take all of their winnings and leave them with nothing. The winning contestant moves on to the All-New Bonus Round to face the WHAMMY in a final battle for the chance to win a fortune.

Produced by Fremantle, “Press Your Luck” is executive produced by Jennifer Mullin and John Quinn, who also serves as showrunner.
