PEN15 stars

Review of "PEN15" 2/24/18 by Suzanne
airs now on HULU

Critics love this show, and I'm not sure why. To me it's not funny, just weird. It's about two girls in middle school, best friends, and all of the troubles they have. It's the type of humor where everything is extremely awkward and pushed to a ridiculous extent. I just don't find it funny or entertaining in any way.  The women, who play themselves as teens, wrote this based on their own experiences. However, real life is not very funny, and neither is this show.

Of course the obvious joke of the show is the title, which looks like the word "penis." That would be a great joke for middle school, but not so much for the rest of us, who are adults.  I didn't mind Junior High, for the most part, and this show is way more uncomfortable than my Junior High years ever were.

PEN15 is middle school as it really happened. Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle star in this adult comedy, playing versions of themselves as thirteen-year-old outcasts in the year 2000, surrounded by actual thirteen-year-olds, where the best day of your life can turn into your worst with the stroke of a gel pen.

The series is created, written, and executive produced by Maya Erskine, Anna Konkle, and Sam Zvibleman. Debbie Liebling and Gabe Liedman serve as executive producers alongside Marc Provissiero & Brooke Pobjoy from Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island & Becky Sloviter of Party Over Here. PEN15 is produced by AwesomenessTV.
