Iain Armitage and Zoey Perry

Review of "Young Sheldon" 9/28/17 by Eva Diaz
airs Thursdays starting 11/2 on CBS.

I don't watch the Big Bang Theory. I saw a few episodes the first season it was on, and it never appealed to me. However, after I saw the commercials for this BBT spin-off, I wanted to watch it.

"Young Sheldon" tells the story of Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) when he was a young genius, growing up with his family in Texas. Adult Sheldon (Jim Parsons) narrates each episode of the show as he tells his adventures going to high school at a young age, Ian Armatige does a wonderful job in the role of Young Sheldon. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Sheldon and his mother, Mary (Zoey Perry, daughter of Laurie Metcalf, who plays Mary on BBT). The two actors have a wonderful chemistry together, and they're both very funny. This show is funny, heartwarming, and at times will make you get out a box of tissue.

I think this show will be a big hit for CBS and could become a bigger hit then its inspiration, "The Big Bang Theory." The show has wide appeal because it talks about how having a genuis child affects not only the gifted child, but the entire family, so you will be able to find a character that you identify with and root for, within the family. I give this show 5 out of 5 stars.

“Pilot” – 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper is a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science but learns that isn’t always helpful growing up in East Texas, a land where church and football are king, on the special series debut of the new comedy YOUNG SHELDON, Monday, Sept. 25 (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. YOUNG SHELDON moves to Thursdays (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT) as of Nov. 2. Iain Armitage, Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan and Raegan Revord star. THE BIG BANG THEORY’s Jim Parsons is an executive producer and narrates as adult Sheldon.

While the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naďve Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him. His father, George, is struggling to find his way as a high school football coach and as father to a boy he doesn’t understand. Sheldon’s mother, Mary, fiercely protects and nurtures her son in a town where he just doesn’t fit in. Sheldon’s older brother, Georgie, does the best he can in high school, but it’s tough to be cool when you’re in the same classes with your odd 9-year-old brother. Sheldon’s twin sister, Missy, sometimes resents all the attention Sheldon gets, but she also remains the one person who can reliably tell Sheldon the truth. Finally, there’s Sheldon’s beloved Meemaw, his foul-mouthed, hard-drinking Texas grandmother who is very supportive of her grandson and his unique gifts. For 10 years on THE BIG BANG THEORY, audiences have come to know the iconic, eccentric and extraordinary Sheldon Cooper. This single-camera, half-hour comedy gives us the chance to meet him in childhood, as he embarks on his innocent, awkward and hopeful journey toward the man he will become.
