Wisdom of the Crowd cast

Review of "Wisdom of the Crowd" 10/2/17 by Eva Diaz
airs Sundays, 8/7c on CBS.

This is an interesting show. A tech innovator creates an app named Sophie, which alows users of the app help to him solve crimes. Jeffrey Tanner (Jeremy Piven of "Mr. Selfridge") created the app to help him find his daugher's killer because he believes the wrong man was convicted of the crime. Tanner, with the help of his tech team, and the crowd, help the police solve crimes (like with online crowd-sourcing). The police are reluctant to participate because some don't think the app will work and others worry about civilians being hurt. Since Jeffrey is a prominant citizen, they go along with it. Richard T. Jones is great as the cynical detective, Cavanagh, who works with Tanner, despite his doubts. The show also makes you wonder who is better at catching criminals: computers aided by regular people, or trained police.

I think this show will do well. It's compelling and the pace is right; it isn't too slow or two fast. If you like crime drama, you will enjoy this one. Piven's character reminds me of Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerburg. If you like technology, you should appreciate this show. It's similar to last season's "APB," but the writing seems to be a little better, and the characters more likable. I hope they will eventually delve more deeply into Jeffrey Tanner''s personal life. I do worry because the show is on Sunday, where the competition is fierce, but I think this one has a chance of making it. I give this show 5 out of 5 stars.

Pilot” – Visionary tech innovator Jeffrey Tanner creates a cutting-edge crowdsourcing platform to solve his daughter’s murder, and revolutionize crime solving in the process, on the series premiere of the new drama WISDOM OF THE CROWD, Sunday, Oct. 1 (8:30-9:30 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. Jeremy Piven, Richard T. Jones, Natalia Tena, Monica Potter, Blake Lee and Jake Matthews star.

Inspired by the notion that a million minds are better than one, Silicon Valley entrepreneur Jeffrey Tanner develops “Sophe,” an online platform for publicly shared information he’s certain will find his daughter’s killer. To assist him, Tanner recruits Det. Tommy Cavanaugh, the original cop who investigated the murder but was unceremoniously forced off the case. Working with them is Sara Morton, a brilliant engineer whose relationship with Tanner goes beyond professional; Josh Novak, a talented, nerdy-cool head programmer; and Tariq Bakari, a tech genius and expert hacker with issues adhering to the rules. Concerned with Tanner’s obsession is his successful ex-wife, Congresswoman Alex Hale, with whom he shares an unbreakable bond over their shared grief. As Tanner taps into the “wisdom of the crowd,” his unexpected success fuels his determination to solve even more cases than just the one that’s personal to him.
