Tour de Pharmacy

Review of "Tour de Pharmacy" 7/15/17 by Suzanne
Premiered July 8 at 10pm on HBO

I thought this was a series, but it's actually a movie. It's a fake documentary, like "This Is Spinal Tap." It's about drugged-up cyclists racing in the Tour de France, but really, it's just a great spoof of all of the ESPN and other sports documentaries. They do a wonderful job with it. I've seen a lot of those because my husband is a big sports fan. This is a priceless satire. The cast is great. It's narrated by Jon Hamm ("Mad Men") and stars Andy Samberg, James Marsden, Will Forte, Orlando Bloom, John Cena, Daveed Diggs, Freddie Highmore, and many others. It's got some very fun appearances from Kevin Bacon, Phylicia Rashad, Mike Tyson, Danny Glover, Jeff Goldblum, Lance Armstrong, and Dolph Lundgren.

It's pretty funny and worth watching. Too bad it's not a series! I would watch it regularly. Apparently it's a follow-up to another mockumentary written and directed by the same team, "7 Days in Hell." I'm going to have to go find that one and watch it, too!

In 1982, during a dark and fictitious time in cycling history, the sportís most venerable, time-honored race was marred by the doping of virtually all of its competitors. Riddled with nefarious characters, that yearís competition was a hornetís nest of moral depravity. Through the perspective of five riders, Tour de Pharmacy gives an inside look into the grim realities of the darkest event in a sport notoriously tainted by controversy.
