Throwing Shade anchors

Review of "Throwing Shade" 2/3/17
Airs Tuesdays 10:30/9:30c on TVLAND

The best description I can think of for this show is a gay "Daily Show."  I hope no one is offended by that. There are two hosts, and one of them is a gay man, Brian, and the other is a straight woman, Erin.  They both try to be very funny and outrageous, sort of in-your-face, energetic humor about today's issues. It definitely has a liberal bent. I watched the first episode and thought they were trying a little too hard. It was funny, but not hilarious.  Besides sitting at a desk and introducing "news" segments, they also have skits with their friends (other comedians), some of which will be very familiar to you (such as Will Ferrell). Apparently they previously had a comedy podcast and then web series, similar to this show.

Right now, there are many political talk shows (too many, really), especially ones from the left point of view.  It'll be interesting to see if this one is successful or not. I don't think TVLAND has ever had a talk show before, let alone a political comedy one.

Comedy is very subjective. What's funny to one person may not be funny to another. Check it out and see if you like it.

Feeling salty about 2017? Come sit with the cool kids in the cafeteria, where we’ll be throwing shade all winter long with two hilarious comedies, beginning Tuesday, January 17th. Season two of the Grade-A “Teachers,” starring the improv group The Katydids, returns at 10pm ET/PT, followed by Throwing Shade” at 10:30pm ET/PT – the clever, timely, and boundary-pushing new late night series based on the popular podcast and Funny or Die web series hosted by Erin Gibson and Bryan Safi.
Throwing Shade,” based on the hit podcast and Funny Or Die web series, is hosted by Erin Gibson (Emmy® nominated for “Gay of Thrones,” “Parks and Recreation”) and Bryan Safi (“Modern Family,” “Superstore”), who will bring their unique perspective to the hottest topics of today – from politics, feminism and gay rights to the latest celebrity nonsense – in front of a live studio audience. Gibson and Safi serve as executive producers, along with showrunner Charlie Siskel (“Tosh.0,” “Review”). Joe Farrell, Andrew Steele and Anna Wenger are also executive producers for Funny or Die.
