Notorious cast

"Notorious" review by Eva Diaz  9/23/16
Airs Thursdays 9/8c on ABC

I really wanted to watch this show because the ads looked good and because I am a news junkie.  Also, I enjoy shows that give you a behind-the-scenes look at the news and how it works. I am sorry to say that this show isn't as good as the ads made it sound.

The show centers around two friends - a TV news producer, Julia George (Piper Parabo), and a defense attorney, Jake Gregorian (Daniel Sunjata ) - whose friendship benefits their careers in a reciprocal way. Julia uses Jake to get exclusive interviews for her news show, and Jake uses Julia's show to get good press for his clients. I wish the first episode had focused more on that relationship instead of trying to also solve crime because that's not really their job (Jake's client is accused of a crime). I also wish that they would show Jake defending his client and using the press to sway public opinion. I think if the show did that, it would be much better. but instead... it focuses on solving the crime, or their trying to place the blame on another person for the crime. There are just too many things going on at once.

I'm going to watch a few more episodes to see if it grabs my interest, but I don't think this show will last very long. I feel badly for the two leading actors, who have great chemistry.  I give this show two out of 5 stars because Perabo and Dunjata are worth watching together. I just wish they were on a better show.

Notorious centers on the symbiotic relationship between charismatic defense attorney Jake Gregorian (Daniel Sunjata) and powerhouse TV producer Julia George (Piper Perabo), as they attempt to control the media, the justice system and ultimately each other.

When Jake's clients find themselves in the nation's spotlight, he uses the media to sway public opinion. Meanwhile, Julia, the executive producer of Louise Herrick Live (LHL), the number one TV news program in the country, capitalizes on Jake's clients' notoriety. Together, they make great TV and determine the nation's headlines.

Notorious stars Daniel Sunjata as Jake Gregorian, Piper Perabo as Julia George, Kate Jennings Grant as Louise Herrick, Aimee Teegarden as Ella Benjamin, J. August Richards as Bradley Gregorian, Sepideh Moafi as Megan Byrd, Ryan Guzman as Ryan Mills, and Kevin Zegers as Oscar Keaton.

Notorious was created and written by Josh Berman and Allie Hagan. Showrunner is Josh Berman. Executive producers are Josh Berman, Jeff Kwatinetz, Josh Barry, Kenny Meiselas, Mark Geragos, Wendy Walker, Jennifer Cecil, and Mike Listo. The co-executive producers are Allie Hagan, Terrence Coli, and Tom Mularz. Notorious is from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios.
