Steve Harvey's Funderdome

"Steve Harvey's Funderdome" review by Eva Diaz  6/12/17
Airs Sundays 9/8c on ABC

I was interested in watching this show because I thought it would be another fun game show hosted by Steve Harvey.  I was only half-right because I really don't consider it a game show; but it's still fun to watch. I think of it as a lighter version of "Shark Tank". Two inventors compete each round to see what invention the audience likes best.  The audience votes using tablets. In the first round, the winners get $20,000 if the audience votes for their invention, and then there are two more rounds with different inventors each time.  The most one can get to fund an invention is $100,000. Steve gives them a chance to win a little money before he announces the winner of the round, and if they take the money, that is the money they keep.  Even if they win the audience vote, they don't get the money they are asking for, and the loser of the round doesn't get any money.

I call it "Shark Tank Lite" because Steve tells the audience to vote for the invention that they would like to see in stores.  The inventor only tells the audience how the product works, why they invented it, and why they need the money - they don't mention any sales figures at all.

The show is fun to watch because Steve is a great h0st and always makes me laugh.  You never know which inventions the audience will pick to get the money. I give this show 5 out of 5 stars.  If you love "Shark Tank," you will love this show. It's much more simple than that show, and to the point.

about Steve Harvey's FUNDERDOME

Steve Harvey's FUNDERDOME, from Mark Burnett, is a seed-funding competition reality series where two budding entrepreneurs go head-to-head to win over a live studio audience to fund their ideas, products or companies. The audience represents the "customer" and, as the customer is always right, they vote to determine the winner. But, in each round, following the pitches and before Steve Harvey reveals the results of the crowd's majority vote, the entrepreneurs face a major dilemma: one of the entrepreneurs is allowed to cash out and walk away for a lesser amount. But if an entrepreneur cashes out, they forgo the opportunity to win the whole cash prize for that round—a good move if they lost the crowd vote, but a bad move if they would have won it.

Steve Harvey hosts, infusing humor, passion and support for the American Dream. The series is produced by MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM. The executive producers are Mark Burnett, Leslie Garvin and Barry Poznick.
