"Second Chance" review by Suzanne 1/9/16
Premieres Wednesday 9/8c January 13 on FOX

I watched the first couple of episodes of this show, and I really enjoyed. I'll definitely be adding it to my list of current shows to watch. You can watch the first episode online; they aired a special preview of it on Christmas. It's a very good show about a cop who gets a second chance at life.

These super-rich twins, Otto and Mary, run a tech social media company; one of them is dying, so they've found that if they treat people who have a certain gene with this drug they've developed, they can bring them back to life. The idea is to use that person's blood to save the dying twin. That part is kind of silly and doesn't really make a lot of sense, to be honest.

What makes the show good, and relatable, is the Pritchard family. Jimmy is a retired cop who gets murdered, and the twins bring him back as a young man (Rob Kazinsky).  His son, Duval (Tim DeKay, who was so great in "White Collar") doesn't have a great relationship with him, but Jimmy gets him to solve his murder and get rid of the corruption in the police force. Duval also has a young daughter and an alcoholic sister.

Jimmy isn't just brought back to life; he has enhanced speed and strength, so he's almost like Captain America (not quite that powerful). However, his life and strength only lasts for a certain length of time, and then he has to go back to being in this tank of liquid where they revived him.  Using their wealth and technology, the twins are able to help Jimmy when he needs it.

It's part scifi/fantasy and part cop drama. What I like about it most, though, is the relationships. They're done very well here. There are the family relationships between Jimmy and his son (Jimmy wasn't a very good father because he was a workaholic and drinker), and between Jimmy and the twins.  Mary clearly has a crush on him. I really like the actors they chose for these parts as well. I think if you like the show "Limitless" on CBS, you should like this one as well. I can't wait to see what happens next! Don't miss it.

(Wednesdays, 9:00-10:00 PM, beginning Jan. 13, 2016)

What would you do with a second chance?

From executive producer/writer Rand Ravich (“Life,” “Crisis”) and Emmy Award-winning executive producer Howard Gordon (“Homeland,” “24”) comes SECOND CHANCE, a thrilling new action-drama about a man brought back to life by two scientists playing god in the quest to save one of their own lives.

Seventy-five-year-old JIMMY PRITCHARD (guest star Philip Baker Hall, “Modern Family,” “Magnolia”) is a shell of his former self. A drinker, a womanizer and a father who always put work before family, Pritchard was forced to resign as L.A. County Sheriff for corrupt conduct more than a decade ago. Now, some 15 unkind years later, he is killed when he stumbles upon a robbery at the home of FBI Agent DUVAL PRITCHARD (Tim DeKay, “White Collar”), one of his two children. But death is surprisingly short for Jimmy, who is brought back to life by billionaire tech-genius twins MARY GOODWIN (Dilshad Vadsaria, “Revenge”) and her brother, OTTO (Adhir Kalyan, “Rules of Engagement”), founders of a social networking empire.

Resurrected as a younger, better version of himself, with physical abilities of which he never dreamed, a re-animated Pritchard (Rob Kazinsky, “True Blood”) is given a second chance at life. What will he do with it? Will he try to repair the damage he did to his family? Will he embrace a new sense of purpose or fall prey to old temptations?

SECOND CHANCE is a production of 20th Century Fox Television, in association with Kara Productions and Teakwood Lane Productions. The series is written by Rand Ravich. The series is executive-produced by Ravich, Howard Gordon, Donald Todd (SLEEPY HOLLOW) and Brad Turner (“24”). Hugh Fitzpatrick (“Tyrant”), Richard Hatem (“Witches of East End”) and Gwendolyn Parker (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”) are co-executive producers. Emmy Award winner Michael Cuesta (“Elementary,” “Homeland”) served as director and executive producer on the pilot.
