"Outcast" review by Suzanne 7/12/16
Sundays at 9:30 on PBS

This is a fantastic show. It just grabs you by the throat and draws you in, kicking and screaming. I'm serious. If you like supernatural shows, you should love this one. It reminds me a little bit of "Constantine," but it's way better than that show. And I really loved that show!   But this one is really really good. I'm not surprised because it's done by Robert Kirkman, who also created "The Walking Dead." I don't watch that show because I don't like zombies, but everyone I know watches it.

If you don't like gross things, you may not like this one, or at least, the first few minutes. I have to admit I almost turned it off then. However, it gets better after that and it's not nearly as gross later on.  It's about people getting possessed by demons in a small town. This is more like "The Exorcist" than "Supernatural," though. It's very serious and gripping.

The town's preacher is also the town's exorcist. He's played very well by British actor Philip Glenister. You may remember him if you were a fan of the British series "Life on Mars," or its follow-up series "Ashes to Ashes," where he played DI Gene Hunt. He was fantastic in this, and he is still superb in this series.

The main character, Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit), has come back to town after a long absence. He's living a very solitary life in an old cabin. Only his sister seems to care about him at first. We learn that he had to leave town because of something that happened with his family. We also learn that his mother was possessed by demons.

Star Trek: The Next Generation's Brent Spiner also plays a role on the show. I'm sure you'll recognize a few other familiar faces, too.

It's just a really great supernatural show, done very well. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I hope to watch the rest of the episodes soon. If you don't have Cinemax, get the show however you have to.  You won't be sorry. Just don't watch it at night because it'll probably give you nightmares.

I'm sorry this review is so late. The show started June 3, but I was in the middle of moving, so I'm trying to catch up.

From the Creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman's Outcast is based on the Skybound/Image comic produced for CINEMAX by FOX International Studios (FIS).

OUTCAST follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now an adult, he embarks on a journey to find answers but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth as we know it.
