Andrew Dice Clay and other characters

"Dice" review by Suzanne 4/15/16
Airs Saturdays, 9:30pm on Showtime

I wasn't expecting this to be funny, but it actually was. I only watched the pilot because I don't get Showtime, only HBO.  Showtime put the first episode on their site. I did enjoy it. It's the kind of comedy that gets funnier as it goes along. By the end, I was really laughing.

It looks like a reality show, but it's not. It's a scripted comedy. Andrew Dice Clay plays himself, similar to "Curb Your Enthusiasm" or "Episodes."  He's not afraid to make fun of itself as a washed-up comedian who thinks way too highly of himself and isn't too bright, yet he's a good guy.

Back in the 80's, when I saw Andrew "Dice" Clay's stand-up actor on cable, I thought it was kind of funny, in a really offensive way (like listening to Howard Stern, but maybe with more racism).  But then he hosted Saturday Night Live and he was awful, so I just dismissed him as someone who's only funny because he's using a lot of four-letter words and saying shocking things.

Now I can say I was wrong because he's very funny in this show. It's not like "Seinfeld," or "Louie," either. He doesn't do any of his act. He just plays himself as a regular guy, living in Las Vegas with his wife, Carmen (played by Natasha Leggero) and his friend, Milkshake (played by Kevin Corrigan).  But it works and it's funny. Check it out!
