Cooper Barret's Guide cast

"Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life" review by Suzanne 1/3/16
Premieres Sunday, January 3, 8:30/7:30c on FOX

This is a very cute and fun show that made me laugh out loud several times. I've never watched "The Hangover" movies, but Imagine they're similar to this (only with more sex).  The show is about three guys in their 20's who move in together after graduating from college. They seem like lovable losers who don't know what they want to do with their lives. Jack Cutmore-Scott plays Cooper, the star of the show who narrates and talks to us.  There's a cute girl across the hall that becomes his friend (and possibly more). His older brother also drops by a lot and is part of their group.

Describing a show like this doesn't really tell you how funny it is. Based on the first episode, I say it's pretty funny. You'll have to check it out for yourself to see if you agree. I think it's a fresh and original take on the guys-hanging-out sitcom idea.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a friend who has made all the mistakes in life there are to make, and then tells you exactly where he went wrong, so you don't have to? COOPER BARRETT’S GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE is a new comedy that explores what we all go through on our way to figuring out what life is all about.

COOPER BARRETT (Jack Cutmore-Scott, “Kingsman: The Secret Service”) still doesn't have the job he wants; he's accidently fallen in love with his across-the-hall neighbor, KELLY BISHOP (Meaghan Rath, “Being Human”); one of his roommates, NEAL (Charlie Saxton, “Betas,” “Hung”), just can’t seem to dump his bodybuilder girlfriend; his other roommate, BARRY (James Earl, “Ground Floor,” “Glee”), is a “loveable jackass” who can’t stop getting into trouble; and his 40-year-old-brother, JOSH (Justin Bartha, “The New Normal,” “The Hangover” franchise) is constantly popping in to hang with the fellas and get some peace from his wife, LESLIE (Liza Lapira), and their two kids. The one thing they do have is each other.

As Cooper struggles to survive each of life’s many challenges – a night in jail, an inappropriate text he never should have sent, an ill-advised household pet – he will guide us through the often-messy, always-hilarious ordeal, so that our lives don’t have to be nearly the entertaining disaster that Cooper’s is turning out to be.

COOPER BARRETT’S GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and The Jackal Group. The series was written by Jay Lacopo and executive-produced by Lacopo, Gail Berman, Bill Callahan and James Griffiths. The pilot was directed by Griffiths. “Like” COOPER BARRETT’S GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE on Facebook at facebook.com/TheGuideToSurvivingLife.
