"Childhood's End" review by Suzanne 12/14/15
Premieres Monday, December 14, 8/7c on Syfy

I read this book a very long time ago, so I don't really remember it at all. From what I've read, they've done a pretty good job of converting the original book, written in the 1950's, to a more modern-day time. I thought the first segment was very good, and it has a shocker ending. I think it falls apart a bit in the second segment because it doesn't really explain things. For instance, when scientists stop trying to figure things out. Just because aliens improve life and cure diseases, I don't think scientific minds would stop wanting to know stuff. Even if the human body were completely healthy, I think they'd still want to know the ins-and-outs of it and maybe want to improve on it. I just don't think scientific discovery is dependent on whether we need to cure diseases or not. Scientists are not just problem solvers; they're curious and like to figure things out.

I enjoyed the show, but there were other unanswered questions like that. The cinematography and special effects are fabulous. They really put a lot of money and time into that. The characters are pretty likable, and the acting is good. I think it's worth checking out, but don't be surprised if some of it doesn't really ring true for you.
