cast of Younger

"Younger" review by Eva Diaz 3/6/15
Premieres March 31 10/9c on TVLAND

I was really excited to see this show! "Younger" is based on the novel of the same name, written by Pamela Redmond and executive produced and written by the man who brought us "Sex and the City." I was never a fan of "Sex and the City," but I decided to watch this show because I am a fan of Tony Award-winning actress Sutton Foster (who formerly starred in "Bunheads").  She plays the main character, Liza, whose husband left her for a younger woman.  She finds that she is too overqualified to get any good-paying jobs, so she must now go back to work after taking 15 years away from work to raise her daughter.  She decides to try to write a book. Liza is in her forties and is told she is too over-qualified to get a job working as an assistant to a book publisher. Liza goes to a bar with her best friend Maggie (Debi Mazar Entourage) , and a 26-year-old guy asks her for a datem thinking that she is also his age.  Her friend Maggie persuades her to go back to the publishing company and apply for the job again, only this time pretending that she is 26. Maggie gives Liz a makeover, so Liz returns to the publishing company, and this time she gets the job. On the first day of work, she meets Kelsey (Hilary Duff) and they become friends.

I thought this show was a comedy, but after watching the pilot episode, I consider it more of a drama with some comedy thrown in, much the same way as I felt about "Sex and the City." Their cast is great, and I am eager to see more of Liz.  I wonder how long she can fool people into thinking she is 26 years old. It is a show shot with a single camera, which I don't like because I tend to miss the action.  Also, sometimes you see when the camera is moving and that is distracting to me. The pilot tended to be slow and drag a bit, but I hope with future episodes it will get better. It is surprising that this show is on TVLAND because it is a very adult show. The other original comedies that TVLAND has put on the air are adult, but you can still watch them with older children.  They won't get the adult jokes.  However, this show is for adults only because some of the subject matter isn't appropriate for children.

I give the show 4 out of 5 stars and hope that future episodes will be faster-paced then the pilot.
