Working the Engels

"Working the Engels" review by Suzanne
Airs Thursdays at 9:30/8:30c on NBC

I hate to give really negative reviews, but this is an awful show and you shouldn't waste your time on it. I could only sit through about 10 minutes of it.

The Engels are a very dysfunctional family. The father, a lawyer, dies, leaving behind debt, so the family bands together to try to fix the problems and run the law office, even though only one of them is a lawyer (and not a very good or experienced lawyer). Mom is an alcoholic; the other sister is a former pill-popper who found Jesus; the brother is a low-level criminal. They're all dislikable idiots.

The show is completely unrealistic, and worse, it's just not funny, and the people in it are very irritating. Andrea Martin stars as the mother. She's never been my favorite comedienne, but she's wasted in this (and, literally, too, she's wasted! As in her character is always drunk).

I can't believe NBC had nothing else to put in this half hour besides this show... I'm sure they're frantically searching for something better to replace it with right now.
