I really wanted to like this show, but it's not that
funny.
Amy Poehler's brother, Greg, stars as Bruce, an
accountant in New York who quits his job and moves to Sweden
to live with his girlfriend (apparently Greg did this in
real life, too). The characters are lovable and quirky, but
quirky is not enough to carry a comedy.
Greg and his girlfriend, Emma, are gorgeous, even though
they try to make him seem a little bit of a nebbish. All of
her relatives are a bit crazy. Her apartment is not ready
yet, so they have to stay with her parents. She has one
brother who sponges off their parents and never keeps a
steady job. They all drink a lot.
Many comedians are featured in the shows, including Will
Farrell. The writing just needs to be better. The only part
that I thought was funny, and you could see the joke coming
a mile away, was when Greg pretended to be Canadian in his
Swedish language class because a fellow classmate from Iraq
talked about how much he hates Americans for ruining his
life, and his country. (Any liberal who traveled outside of
the U.S. during George W. Bush's reign can sympathize with
that idea).
If you like fun characters and don't really care about
jokes, then this is the sitcom for you.
