"Happyland" review by Suzanne
Airs Tuesdays 11/10pm on MTV

I was hoping this would be as good as "Teen Wolf", but it's not. However, that's not to say it's bad. "Teen Wolf" is fantastic, so that probably set my expectations up too high. "Happytown" is basically a teen soap opera, and a pretty good one.

The show is set in a Disneyland-like place called Happytown. The people who work there get to live in housing right on the theme park. Bianca A. Santos stars as Lucy, a woman who helps run some of the shows they put on for the kids in the park. She grew up in Happyland, since her mother has worked there for many years, so she wants to escape and have a real life. Lucy is very smart and plans to be a doctor.  Her mother, Elena, looks very young and has had many boyfriends. She doesn't seem to be the best mom.

In the first episode, we meet some of the other people who work in Happyland. Lucy is intrigued, despite herself, by this guy, Ian, who shows up stoned to play the Happyland raccoon cartoon character, and he turns out to be the boss' son. By the end of the first episode, there is a big shock. However, after years of watching the soaps, it wasn't a big shock to me.

It's a pretty good Latino teen soap. Check it out if you want to see what'll happen next. I'd probably watch it if I had the time...
