"Hostages" review by Suzanne
Premieres Monday September 23 10/9c on CBS

The premise of this show sounds silly and not one that would make a whole season, let alone subsequent seasons. However, I urge you to give it a chance. It's a really good with many many layers, little stories within the larger story, lots of secrets, and it keeps moving along, making you wonder who is who and what is what. It's really well written and has great acting.

In the show, a woman surgeon, Dr. Ellen Sanders (Toni Collette), is supposed to do a routine surgery on the president (James Naughton).  However, her family is taken hostage by some "bad guys" who want her to kill the president (they have a way to make it look like an accident). However, not all is as it seems, with anyone in this show, in any way. The leader of the bad guys is an FBI agent, and we suspect the others might be, too (and they are not bad people, as we are shown in the first episode). The lead FBI agent, Duncan Carlisle (Dylan McDermott) has a wife in a coma at the hospital, and he has a little girl.  Each of the family members has their own secrets, too.  Then, Dr. Sanders does something unexpected, and it looks like a battle of wills between her and Duncan.

I really look forward to seeing what else happens in the show! I don't want to spoil it too much for you by giving you a lot of details about what is going on with the family, but it's very nicely done.  It's worth tuning in to see!
