cast of Helix

"Helix" review by Suzanne
Airs Fridays 10/9c on Syfy

The picture you see above of this cast is nothing like the show because these people are never all in the same room together, let alone looking normal, and just standing there. The show has lots of action. I think it's pretty exciting, although some people have said that they think it's too slow. I watched the first 3 episodes and they keep you going pretty well.  At the end of the 3rd episode, which airs tonight, there is a big OMG moment.

I love Billy Campbell, but I can't watch this show. It's just too gross for me. It's not really a science fiction show; it's more like a horror show. Normally I do like horror, but not when it's this grisly. I have a thing about bodily fluids (not so much blood as others).  They just gross me out. There's a lot of bodily fluids in this show, dripping and whatnot.

The show is about how some scientists in the arctic have been doing research on viruses, but they haven't been following regular scientist protocols (there's a lot of shady stuff going on, as we gradually learn). The CDC is sent in to help when some of the scientists are infected, particularly this guy Peter, who is the brother of the CDC investigator (Billy Campbell).  The virus turns people into zombie-like creatures (worse than zombies in many ways) and then they go around sharing the virus in gross ways, and then some of them die as they dissolve into a puddle of black goo.

The other problem I have with the show is that there are a lot of characters, and it's hard to keep track of who is whom. I don't generally have trouble with that, especially after 3 episodes.

If you watch and enjoy it, I'm sure you'll get to find out what the virus is really all about, and who's behind the shady stuff, and who dies, etc.  If you can stomach all the black goo and drooling!
